This unit provides a little more protection against potential odors with its fan drawing in and filtering the air in the vicinity of the litter box and definitely mitigates the potential issues of shorter cats trying to get into the entrance of the M1, which sits higher above the ground than a traditional litter box. It is very quiet on its lowest setting and has an acceptable level on the higher settings as well. It has worked just fine on the lowest one, so we leave it there. Wow this actually took care of the smell much better than I thought. On the first day I had a big pile of smelly things in my Neokasa M1. I would like to say it was to test it but that was just me being lazy. I put the fan on hard and lo and behold! I could tell a difference in the air in my nostril within a minute. I tried to control the smell before with an air purifier but charcoal fan is a whole different level for smell control. Two hours later the smell was mangeable for me and my friend who came to visit that evening could not notice the fainter smell in the room. The low fan is decently quiet and keeps the smell manageable. My kittens were a little intimidated in the beginning but within minutes they got used to it. Just put them on it or in the litter on low air and they will figure out it’s safe! The air-step smell is not completely gone but that makes my kittens and my nose happy. It’s the right size, easy to put together. Even easier than the older Neokasa step model. They combine white and grey color on this item which works. Still a neutral color but I did love that grey color of the previous model for even less contrast. The step is not diagonal like the previous model but I think my kittens prefer it that way. Probably gives them more control over jumping and stepping out in their own rhythm. Overall, it’s excellent for us! ... show more

The stair just adds too much width to the machine. I got the neakasa because it was more low profile than the litter robot, so this step kind of didn’t help. I returned it after seeing how large it was next to the machine and never even set it up. It also has to plug in separately, so a cord is running several feet from the front of the machine to the wall. I’m sure it works for people with their litter box tucked away, but mine is in a guest bathroom so it just wasn’t aesthetically working. ... show more

I bought an open-top multi-cat automatic litter box on Amazon which has terrible ammonia odor, so I purchased Neakasa Airstep 2-in-1 purifier cat step with 3 odor control modes to solve the issue. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work at all no matter what I do.
