    • Good addition to have heat when power goes out
I received my heater yesterday. I was surprised to find it has fan built in. After putting 4 D batteries in and battery for starter it works great. I bought for power outages. The company was supportive and quick to answer when it seemed it was lost in the USPS. I will try it with the hose on 20 lb tank when I can figure that out. These are the BEST heaters. I’ve used them for years. We just purchased a replacement, because we gave ours to someone who became homeless. It was cold out at the time, and you DO NOT want to wait to buy one until you need one. They work so well, you’ll be lucky if they’re in stock.

    • Can't be trusted
Worked for 2 months took heater to local propane co. They wanted $175.00 to fix . Both regulators ,and valve control needed to be replaced. Next door neighbor bought one also his worked less time than mine did exact same problem

    • If heater won’t light, check your 5 gal propane tank hose
Upon assembling Big Buddy I attached a 5 gal propane tank to it. I opened up the propane tank but could not get the pilot to light. I replaced the 5 gal tank with two 1lb propane canisters, and it works fine. I checked with MrHeater. Seems there is a safety device in the propane hose #F273704 that shuts off supply from propane tank to Big Buddy. There is no trouble shooting answer in manual regarding this. If it happens, remove the hose from the 5 gal propane tank and tap against the tank or workbench. This will reset the safety device. Reattach the hose to the tank, and slowly open the propane tank. If the propane tank is full or over pressurized, and you open it quickly the safety device will shut down the flow. Other than that I like the heat output and design of Big Buddy. ... show more

    • The company is price gouging during ice/snow emergencies.
I paid $179 in January 2025. They are listing for $374 after this current winter snow/ice storm. That's really unfortunate that a company will do folks in need that way. Shame on them. It's a great heater, and it kept my house/water warm while out of power for 4 days, but it wasn't because of the heater alone. The fan does not work very well on the required 4 D sized batteries. I supplemented it with a rechargeable fan (that worked strong for 3 days on one charge). I really like the heater and will watch for a price drop to get another, but historically companies that treat folks like this don't last. I.E., Sears. Making a good product alone won't assure them of success. The one star off is due to the fan not being great and the price gouging. It isn't worth $374 unless the option is frozen water pipes, and they shouldn't profit so much under those circumstances. ... show more

    • Very reliable and efficient
This thing is AWESOME! Saved our butts during power outage. I bought it to use at the racetrack in an enclosed space so the CO2 was a concern has never been an issue. We also run carbon monoxide detection.
