Update: Liberty garden products quickly responded and have already sent a replacement part the next morning. Very impressed to find a company that actually does customer service right! You don't find this often. The brass swivel threads are bad. I tried 4 different hoses including the included leader hose. None will thread into the swivel and all thread into every other hose. At the moment it's useless for installation in my brush fire truck. We'll see if the company responds to email or phone. They are already closed for the day. Everything else about it seemed fine, for such a low price the metal seems sturdy and it was easy to assemble and mount to the bed of my truck but when I tried to connect the leader it does not fit the threads on the swivel. ... show more

This was the least expensive wall-mount garden hose reel I could find that conformed to my specifications. I wanted a sturdy metal reel that would hold a lot of hose because I have only one hose bib and often have to pull 150' of 5/8" hose to reach areas in the garden around the other side of the house. I also had the old reel mounted on a pivoting post (made out of old well pipe and scrap lumber, but that's another story) and to preserve this system I needed to bolt the new reel to a chunk of vertical 2 by 10 about two feet long. I prefer this post arrangement because it allows the aforementioned swivel and because it puts the reel a few feet from the house, whereas a wall-mounted reel inevitably drips and sprays right up against the house, which is bad for many reasons. Also, given standard 16" wall stud spacing in USA, mounting a 14" hose reel baseplate across two studs often requires a scab board affixed to the exterior wall. First positive, this reel adapts well to different mounting arrangements because the large, heavy-gauge back plate, which comes with 8 pre-drilled mounting holes, can be drilled in other positions if the stock holes don't fit your mounting profile. Second positive, the reel turns smoothly and has a good wide drum area. Third positive, the rotary union is tight and leak-free (it's only been two weeks, but if you read the reviews, a lot of the cheaper reels leak right out of the box). Sole possible negative, the reel flanges of this reel are stamped and spoked, which means that the inside surface looks like it could wear and fray the hose over the long run, at least in comparison with the solid, spreading flanges of some (much) more expensive reels. On my reel, these spokes appear finished and smooth, so I hope it won't cause trouble. First question, I haven't found the spec for replacement O-rings for said rotary union. I may yet hear from the seller on this. Second question, and this is not limited to this brand, the hose drum core diameter is pretty small, causing the inner windings of hose to be tighter than is good for the hose material and water flow. If manufacturers would offer a hose drum of, say, 8" core diameter, we would lose only a few feet of small inner windings and the hose would be less stressed. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I’ve included a video of how to fix a slight design issue concerning reinforced sleeved hoses. Once you get past that minor hiccup it’s a fantastic hose reel. If the hose you are using does not have a sleeved reinforced end, you will not have an issue. It rolls up very smoothly and does a great job. It made short work of a heavy 80 foot hose. It’s also very well built. However, if you’re using a high-quality hose, you will not be able to get anywhere near 200 feet on there. I’ve included a picture of my hose completely rolled up. It’s 80 feet long and there might be room on that reel for another 20 feet. But if you’re using a very thin hose, or collapsible flat hose, I’m sure you could get 200 feet on there. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Hose reel is really heavy duty but after installing and mounting I tested it for the first time today and it did not go well. Water leaks and sprays everywhere from the swivel connection. After researching for a quick fix the only solution is to replace the entire swivel connector. I'm sure not all units are like this as I bought this item due to its 4.4 rating but it really bummed me out that now I have to fix a brand new item. ... show more

A friend gave me a plastic one, probably 10 years ago. It was ugly as sin. It has sat in the same position until now. I always wanted something nicer, but the nice ones were well over $100 and the plastic one worked. When it finally went from leaking to spraying water all over I priced some very nice ones. Nope, I’m too cheap. I had admired this brand, but I had never seen that they made a very simple one that was all steel and reasonably priced. I am very happy to get something made in China, with quality in the fittings where it counts most, built to last, and a lot more attractive than any of the plastic ones. Photos: if you can see from the picture the hose outlet fitting and the ends on the supply hose are heavy walled with clean cut threads swaged with brass ferrules. The reel swivel is a solid block held on with a snap ring. If it ever starts to leak ( it doesn’t BTW ) you can replace the O-rings from an auto parts store. And it is right out where you can get to it. I was very happy with this purchase, especially compared to a lot of junk I have bought here. So I went ahead and installed it with the two bent rebars driven in the ground that held the old one. I will pour a bit of concrete or mount it to some green lumber someday because the base will eventually rust out if I don’t. Now, compare the appearance to the old one. Nice! That is 50 ft of Goodyear 5/8” industrial hose. It looks like it will handle 100 ft more. ... show more
