It takes a moment to warm up compared to one or two I have owned but it gets very hot and remains hot a long while after turning it off so you're still able to cook on residual heat for some time. This one burner hot plate is sturdier and I think better built than my last Proctor/Silex one. (That one lasted only 4 months and then the temperature control button fell off as it partially melted. Finally it just completely stopped heating) This Techwood hot plate has a smell when it heated up the first time and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th- BUT so far it heats well and pretty quickly. ... show more

I was skeptical of this product. I built a tiny home and bought two of these to use as my stoves. I highly recommend for anybody looking for a stove alternative. it cooks evenly and quickly. Only one downside, it takes a while for it to cool down. But other than that it’s fantastic. Five stars!

The only disappointing thing is that the instructions does not explain anything about actual pan temp. This is not a typical "hotplate". The actual place you put your pan is upon a cast iron plate that is mounted atop a heating element below. The temp knob has "MIN", "MAX" and a few dots between them. MAX will ignite the air around it and MIN won't cook eggs... It's taking me some time to find the right setting so that I don't scorch the pan or the food in it. Once the top plate gets hot, it stays HOT for a LONG time. Do not leave it plugged in unattended. I'm slowly acclimating to it and don't regret getting it. This little hot plate cook top is great and I use this all the time next to my BBQ / Smoker setup. The element heats up quickly and evenly dissipates the heat. I use this to cook beans, boil veggies and sear steaks using pots, pans and skillets. Very sturdy design that is easy to store and very easy to clean. I recently purchased the Techwood 1800W Portable Electric Stove with high hopes for a convenient and efficient cooking solution, but unfortunately, my experience has been less than satisfactory. One of the major drawbacks is the inconsistent heating performance. Despite the 1800W power rating, the burners seem to struggle to reach and maintain the desired temperature. Cooking times are prolonged, and achieving even heat distribution across cookware has proven to be a challenge. This inconsistency has significantly impacted the quality of my cooking, leading to frustration and disappointment. The build quality of the electric stove also leaves much to be desired. The materials used feel flimsy, and the overall construction lacks durability.
