We previously had a natural gas log starter, which caused the flames to go up higher and started our logs better. But unfortunately it did not last more than a couple of years. This propane gas log starter by Midwest seems better quality, but the flames are not as high and it takes longer to start the fire.

I’ve use this fire starter a couple of times so far. After I got it all put together it’s perfect for my needs. I did not write durability yet because I have not had it long enough. But I know the material that it is made with and familiar with it and it should last a good while. I will not hesitate to purchase another one and recommend this for anybody that wants ease of starting a fire in their fire pit or fireplace. Just be very careful with the propane and always test unit outside in the open.

Install per instructions. Flame was tiny, maybe half an inch. Removed unit and found no drilled hole just have others have reported. Drilled hole, reinstalled with great flame. Only problem is gas escapes from the air mixing hole and a flame is present there. I don’t trust the safety of this product with the shutter open. Will run closed then look for something better next season.

The castings this burner screws into lasts for a long time. The pipes last a few seasons before burning in half. This replacement works well and was less expensive than replacement of the entire assembly. I anticipate it will last as long as previous burners.
