  • Absolutely Worth the $$, Is Perfect for Chonky Cats!
I have thought about ordering one of these hundreds of times and I couldn’t justify the price in my mind, because scooping and changing litter is gross and inconvenient, but it’s not hard. However, one of my two cats is the pickiest, most ridiculous cat ever when it comes to his litter box. He refuses to poo in the same box he pees in, and we’ve always had to have two boxes just for him. Additionally, he won’t use the box if there’s more than one clump. Instead, he will pee over the shower drain 😑 . Short of me following him around all day (after quitting my job, of course, so that I can be home at all times) or standing over the litter boxes so that I can immediately remove any little treasures he buries, there is no way for me to keep the box up to his highness’s standards. After the 3rd time I cleaned the shower one day, I finally said eff it, and ordered this litter box. Dear reader, I was such a fool. The price of this marvel of modern technology is a mere pittance compared to the amount of time, paper towel money, and patience this saves me. I could’ve had so much more free time if I’d just ordered one of these bad boys sooner. First off, this litter box is a quality item. It’s honestly better than I expected, because even though it’s not cheap, the Meowant is much less expensive than its name brand competitor, and I’ve seen those in person. The Meowant looks to be as of high quality as the competitors, and is a fraction of the price. It runs quietly, takes up wayyyyy less space than our old box, and fits perfectly in a quiet corner of our laundry room. It’s great for my chonky boy (a 14 pound, 11 year old tuxie) and his picky little brother, too. I highly recommend downloading the app if you do purchase this box, because you can fine tune some of the functions, and it’s definitely worth it. For example, I was able to change the automatic cleaning time from 2 minutes after the cat leaves the box to 8 minutes, because it gives the litter more time to clump. The Meowant also weighs your cats, and you can track each cat’s use of the box, which is really useful for making sure they’re using the box and not dealing with any potential health issues as far as that goes. I also recommend sealing the seam that runs along the outside of the drum, as other reviewers have suggested. If you have a particularly feisty cat that likes to pee as high up in the box as possible, it is a possibility that some urine might leak into, and out of, the drum through this route. I sealed mine as soon as I received it, because I am so over cleaning up cat pee! We’ve had this box for 2 months now, and it’s been great. It seems perfect for two cats, but if you have more, you’ll definitely be emptying the litter bin often . If that’s not a big deal, then I don’t see why it wouldn’t be a good option for households with more than two cats. The only downside to getting the Meowant litter box is how dumb you might feel (I know I did) after realizing how awesome and convenient it is, and the shame you might feel after you’ve gloated about how “changing the litter box isn’t hard” and then realizing you could’ve just been living the high life with your feet up instead of hunched over your chubby cat’s poo box, digging and sifiting through waste like some kind of troll. Break the cycle! Stop being a poo troll! Just pony up and get one of these. Your nose and cats alike will thank you. ... show more

  • Great customer service and easy to use box
I really love this automatic cat litter box! I have chronic illness issues and this simplifies caring for my cats. It is much cleaner and no smelly boxes. I had an issue with rubber liner and my cats ripped it. However, Meowant and its representatives (Ian,Steve, etc) have been wonderful to work with in replacing what was needed. Can’t say enough good things about my experience! ... show more

  • Great auto litter box
I love everything about this litter box! Ive had it for about a year now, and it is our main litter box for our 3 medium sized cats. Its quiet, easy to maintain, and the cats love it. It seems safe enough, if it senses any weight, it stops cycling until the weight has been removed. That can be a little irritating as when you add new litter, it thinks there is a cat inside, but that is a minor inconvenience. 4 stars instead of 5 because the lining where the littersits is silicone, and with regular use, they have scratched through it. Will most likely invest in another one soon though as it has been reliable and cost effective. ... show more

  • Works with tofu mixed litter!
This litter box works great. The setup was really easy as was linking to the app. The app has a couple features I love. You can set a time for the indicator lights to be off, which is good at night since my box is close to my bedroom. You can also put it in do not disturb mode so it won’t run at night. I did that the first night but realized it isn’t needed because the cleaning cycle is so quiet. You can also adjust the time for cleaning. I set the time to 10 minutes after my cat is in the box and that has worked well. I waited a week to empty the box and there was no smell until I opened the back to get to the bag. If you hate clumping litter like I do, know that you can use the mixed litter that is more like a pellet. I couldn’t find a review where someone used a different litter, so I just risked it and got a tofu mixed litter. I got the Petkit brand, because it could ship the fastest. The tofu litter works with this box well. I ran a manual cleaning cycle after I put it in, and there wasn’t any extra litter in the trash bag. I have also had zero tracking outside the box/mat after 4 days. ... show more

  • Big cat approved.
This was recommended to me by another cat parent as they have two already. I really like the app as it can tell which cat is using the litter box by their weight and how often each cat is using it and how long each visit is. It sends you instant notifications as well. I’ve been using it for over 2 weeks now with 3 cats and there has been no issue with them getting into it or not wanting to go in it so far. I was worried as one of them is much bigger and tends to be picky if they have a cover, but she uses it just fine as the opening is pretty big. My other cat is picky about it being clean all the time and she will go outside of litter boxes if not to her liking. So far she has not gone outside of it and loves to use it as it cleans itself after every use. You can adjust how often it cleans and set a schedule on the app. Just make sure to empty soiled litter compartment often to avoid any mess from overflowing. It comes with odor absorbing gel pads to insert into the litter compartment and it also comes with specially sized bags to put into the bin. I recommend this as it is much quicker than scooping it all the time. It’s a great litter box. ... show more

  • Great customer service
I have purchased three of these automatic litter boxes and have been very happy with them. They have made keeping up with my cats' litter much easier, and they work great. I did have one part become damaged, but I was very impressed with the company's customer service. They responded quickly to my emails, communicated clearly, and are sending a replacement part without any hassle. No product is perfect, but what really matters is how a company stands behind its customers, and this company has done an excellent job. Based on both the product and the customer service, I would definitely purchase from them again and would recommend this automatic litter box to other cat owners. ... show more

  • Experiencing leaks!
It definitely works however over the year that I’ve owned it, I’ve noticed a couple times that urine had leaked out from underneath it. I’m not sure if my cat is peeing on a seam somewhere or what but I think I need to fully unscrew and disassemble it and try cleaning inside the actual machine. Aside from that it does work really well. I use a lot less litter than I used to and my apartment doesn’t smell like a cat box. When i first bought the box I had two large cats and it handled them well. Now I have one and the machine still works great. The bags are easy to change out and keep clean. Thought the machine itself is pretty big a heavy if you’re trying to move it to clean under and around it. Also was very easy to set up. ... show more

  • Revised review - this unit leaks.
UPDATED REVIEW (third edit) following contact with MeoWant: TO PREVENT LEAKAGE: When you first purchase your unit BEFORE you set it up to use it you need to "seal" the seam that goes all the way across the unit from side to side (do not seal the area around the litter bin - you need to be able to continue to open and close that). Buy some clear, white, or putty-colored silicone sealant (whichever you think will match best). Put a thin bead along the entire seam and smooth into the crevice, wiping off any excess as needed. Let dry overnight. Re-seal the following day and let dry. Then you can set up and use the unit w/o any issue. There should be no leakage after that. There are NUMEROUS complaints about this issue. Meowant did send me a new drum unit after I complained (multiple times to various e-mails, websites, and social media pages), so I am upgrading this rating back to 4 stars, but since it had the same exact seam I presumed it would leak as well so I sealed it (as above) before I set it up. I also purchased the square tray to attach to the underside (mentioned below from another website) to catch any errant litter that falls through (and any urine if it still leaked, but so far it hasn't). Since I now have two functioning drums, I am purchasing another base, electrical cord, and litter shield with smaller holes so that I can utilize both units in two different parts of the house. For modifications to your unit you can check the "accessories" link on the MEOWANT website or go to E T S Y and check out dynamitedesignlab on there. He has some things you can attach to the litter screen to make the holes smaller, legs you can attach to make it function better on carpet, a square tray to place UNDERNEATH the unit to catch any litter that gets between the unit and base or urine that leaks out, along with several other things (replacement litter bin, replacement front shield, etc.). He also offers discounts for bundles. Now that I have sealed the unit and added a couple of modifications I am 100% pleased with this purchase. It would be great if MeoWant would address the issues with the seam moving forward and seal that up and make the outer shell one complete circle with only the front opening and the littler bin opening so that future customers do not need to address the leakage issue. Once I sealed that up, the urine has stopped leaking, there is no longer any lingering urine odor around the cat litter corners and I no longer have errant litter dropping down between the drum and the base. It now gets caught inside the square tray and I can empty it once a month when I do the full cleaning/replacement cycle. If you follow my helpful hints about sealing the unit you will absolutely love this self-cleaning litter box. The only other thing I would suggest they offer as an accessory is a place to hold the clear litter separator, bags, and additional deodorizing gel, but for now I'm using a tiny rectangular trash can for all of that and my old litter scoop. With these MeoWant units I can actually get rid of a lot of the "litter" catching mats and things I had been using because very little litter comes back out with the cats. ALSO - you can use either clumping or crystal litter with these units. My cats prefer the crystal litter (no smell) and I do too because there is very little dust and no smell. ALSO, I can periodically add some of the health-monitoring crystal litter to check for any health issues (diabetes, urinary tract issues, blood, etc). If you are on the fence about this unit, but don't really have the $$ to spend on the more expensive brands, definitely go ahead and get it. You will not regret purchasing it, just make sure you seal it before starting to use it to avoid the inevitable urine leakage later on which could ruin your carpet, flooring or just make a big a smelly mess. SECOND EDIT: I am revising my review now that I've had the unit 5 weeks. After you open and close the litter bin lid several times it no longer fits tightly in its tracks and urine starts leaking down the back of the unit and pooling on the floor or soaking into the litter mat below it. I kept smelling urine even after I had cleaned the boxes, switched out old litter for new, wiped down the insides of the litter unit, etc. It just kept getting stronger and stronger. I had been away on vacation for 8 days when the unit first arrived so I was not aware of any issues at that point. The third week I also did not notice an issue although that is when I first cleaned out the entire unit, switched out old litter for fresh and then wiped it down. I was away pet sitting the 4th week, but came home daily and emptied the litter bin a couple of times which is when I noticed urine had run down the back of the unit so I placed a plastic bag underneath the frame. Today I was finally able to be home long enough to lift up the unit to take it outside to clean it completely and I discovered a pool of urine on the plastic bag and subsequently discovered the litter mat underneath it had urine that had soaked into its pad and needed to be laundered. The unit itself is a very well though out device, but it might be better if the exterior were completely sealed and there was a way to remove the litter bin from INSIDE the unit instead. I am enclosing a picture of how loose the lid is now to the litter bin itself. I have tried adjusting the cleaning settings from 8 minutes all the way out to 20 minutes in hopes that the urine would be soaked completely into the litter before it emptied each time but nothing has worked. At this point I have a plastic litter mat underneath it and a newspaper on top of that which I change out daily (which requires lifting the device daily) so that my floors don't get urine puddles and so that I don't have to mop or wipe things down multiple times a day. I have the unit pictured SCO2 unit for the larger cats but I'm about ready to go back to my old school self-cleaning open-top litter box at this point. NOT Pleased that I spent almost 300 dollars for something that requires a lot of daily maintenance and gets stinky fast because of leaks. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is an EXCELLENT cat litter box. It's very lightweight (I'm 5'2 and not super muscular) and so easy to put together. I barely needed to glance at the instruction manual to figure it out. It comes with the base, the litter box, a litter mat, litter bags and several litter deodorizers in the box. The deodorizers fit into a tiny little holder in the waste receptacle. The bags go inside the receptacle and then I pull the draw string a bit to tighten them so that I can tuck that under to keep the bag fitting snugly so that it doesn't come loose when the litter box turns over and empties. I got the larger opening one because I have 3 cats and two are larger at 14 pounds and 15 pounds. Unfortunately it arrived only 3 days before we were heading off on vacation, so I didn't have time to get them used to using it in stages like they suggest (Stage 1: Turned off, but with litter in it and you manually clean it twice a day so they get used to going in and out of it w/o motion. Stage 2 turned on but only emptying twice a day using the timed settings on the app, Stage 3 turned on and set up to the longest time after a visit before it cleans, etc.), but within 3 days all 3 had ventured inside to do their business and two of them were using it regularly. I still kept the old litter next to it while we were gone and in the few weeks since we've returned because they apparently like to go #1 in one and #2 in the other. I love that I can track their weights which is super helpful since we have two senior cats. Our smallest and most skittish cat took longer to adjust to it than the other two, and she still seems completely enthralled and sits and watches it every time it goes through a cleaning cycle, but she's no longer afraid of it. I've seen a few people post about urine coming out underneath it. I have cleaned it once since I got it and while there were no puddles on the floor under it, I did have a streak of dried urine on the unit itself, but I think that was just because I initially had the cleaning setting too short at 8 minutes after the cat leaves. I have since changed it to 15 minutes and I don't notice that happening now. It's very easy to pop on the litter baffle to block the litter so that you can change out the entire batch of litter and the waste receptacle does a great job of holding it all so you can empty it. The receptacle area itself does get a little dirty with loose litter hanging around the edges of the bin and litter or feces sticking to the plastic grate inside, but it's easily cleaned with a wet wipe. I've also purchased a silicone food brush to keep with the litter supplies so I can easily wipe that off and back into the waste receptacle before I pull it out to empty it, then I can just go and rinse it off with soap and water and let it dry. After changing the litter out the first time I took a few baby wipes and wiped down the inside of the container and the litter train well, then used a couple of paper towels to dry it back off before refilling it again. I think if you do that every time, it will stay cleaner between changes. Several people have mentioned smelling either urine or poo, but I have not noticed that happening at all. I do make sure my lid closes back down very well after emptying the waste each time (you have to press on it very hard to get it to lock in). I also use a blend of two litters. I use the unscented Arm and Hammer multi-cat Hard Clump and I use the Unscented Tidy Cat Lightweight litter. It's very hard to add litter to the box unless you pour your litters into a larger container and then use a large ice scoop to add litter to it. Trying to turn a box sideways to pour into it is difficult. The smaller jugs that some litter comes in work great though. The design seems to be very sturdy. The plastic is nice and thick and the base is too. The only thing that I might see becoming a problem is the bottom layer where the litter sits appears to be silicone and it could easily become damaged by long nails, especially if one of your cats is a major scratcher. One of ours is and she sounds like she's digging a hole to the center of the earth sometimes, so hopefully that part holds up well. NOTE: They do offer replacements for these as well on the Meowant site. ... show more
