We've been living in an apartment with a patio that gets a lot of sunlight. Usually, that's a good thing, but we were getting tired of being baked (or rained on) when we sat outside. This unit provided a solution - an actual wind-up awning that isn't screwed into the building's structure, therefore allowing us to set it up and, when the time comes, take it down without leaving holes (and impacting our security deposit). We bought the 118" wide unit since it most closely matched our 129" wide opening. The assembly was very straightforward; all of the pieces were bagged and labeled, and the instructions were clear. Everything snicked together nicely, and the occasional bit of screwing-together was no problem at all. All of the holes lined up, and it was a very quick affair, thanks to the instruction booklet. Tools needed were a philips-head screwdriver, a pliers, an adjustable wrench, and a level. Note: the step where the awning is slid into the groove on the assembled top bar is a lot easier if the end cap on the bar is removed prior to trying. It's only two screws - easy stuff. You might also want to detach the winding wand from the crank assembly while you're at it. That'll keep it from clanking around while you maneuver the awning into place. Taping the stabilizer rods to the main uprights once they're in place is another good idea; leaving them loose and swinging around during assembly can invite breakage of the plastic clamps. Once the uprights are set up, undo the tape and fasten them as per the instructions. Overall - super pleased with the result. Our patio is now a more usable, more comfortable space - and we won't be surprised if we see a lot of these on other tenants' decks in the coming weeks! ... show more

I really needed something to provide shade and rain protection. I was worried that it might not be able to handle high winds. I have had this for about a year and really love it. Very easy to assemble and connect to my eaves. It is a pressure fit that holds. It’s easy to roll out and in when you need to. No problem is high winds, I just roll it in and it stays put. The fabric gets a little of sun and hasn’t faded. Would buy again. ... show more

It works well - once you get it set up. The instructions are TERRIBLE to decipher. Took hours with 2 people. However, once it got set up, it worked as intended. I just wish the parts were labeled better and that the instructions were easier to figure out. It would’ve been five stars had it not been for the difficulty in assembling and installation. ... show more

Awesome awning real easy to put together with very little amount of hardware the instructions were simple enough and all you need is a screwdriver. Me and my wife love it for our apartment balcony to keep the sun from beating on our sliding glass door and heating our whole house . You do need at least 2 people so one side can be held while making the final connections . ... show more

I assembled and installed the awning yesterday and really like how it shades my back door that catches the brutal summer sun. I found the instructions and instructional video of minimal help and just kind of figured it out. Note that the parts are labeled on the plastic wrapping so once you take that off, it may be easy to forget what is G1, G2, etc. The underside of my roof overhang is covered by siding which is a little "spongy" so I used some scrap flooring pieces to give the top end of the support poles a more secure "footing." You might be able to see this in the pictures. I don't know how the awning will do when a windy storm comes along. I'll try to anticipate and roll it down. ... show more

I was just sitting under the awning on my deck with a light rain falling, 70's, and no wind, and so glad I bought this. Whether it's for rainy days or the relentless sun it makes a huge difference to enjoying the deck. The price is right and I don't have to make permanent changes to my deck doorway. Everything was in the package according to the diagram. The entire job took an hour and a half all by myself - I'm a retired widow just to give you an idea - and that was even with an error in the instructions (read on). I had tried reading directions first, but they are too full of letters and numbers to get a sense of the whole mechanism, so I went slavishly one step at a time. Got toward the end and realized nothing told me at what point to attach the awning to the structure. Went back and saw it should have come before "CONNECT THE TWO HALVES OF THE AWNING MECHANISM". It SHOULD have instructed "insert the rear awning along the grooves in the awning mechanism BEFORE connecting the two halves - see illustration 2" Had to go backwards for a few minutes. The first time I put it up, I came home to find it on the floor. When I put it back up - with some help this time - I did a better job of tightening the tension to keep them firmly against the two surfaces. ... show more
