Description

Ultra Violet Ultra Violet is a super cool, blue-toned violet dye that can even give unbleached hair violet tones. For the most vibrant results, we recommend lightening hair to very light level 9 blonde or lighter before use. Applying Manic Panic hair color to pre-lightened hair is the best way to assure that you will achieve the vibrant results that you see on our color swatches. Lightening with our Flash Lightning Kits to a pale blonde (level 9-10) will give the most intense results. We offer 3 bleach kits that will lighten your hair: BLUE LIGHTNING 30 VOL, FLASH LIGHTNING 30 VOL, AND FLASH LIGHTNING AMPLIFIED 40 VOL. BLUE LIGHTNING helps remove any unwanted brassiness in the hair, FLASH LIGHTNING AMPLIFIED 40 Vol is our super strength bleach kit, more powerful than the FLASH LIGHTNING 30 vol. All bleach kits will help you lighten your hair according to the instructions in the package. Blend our Mixer/Pastel-izer with any color to achieve a lighter, pastel tint that is totally on-trend. Combine any formula with the Mixer/Pastel-izer to create soft, on-trend pastel hues. This product works best when you use a whole jar of Pastel-izer with just a few drops of your desired color. A semi-permanent direct dye hair color does not contain any harmful chemicals and relies on natural vegan dyes that mostly sit on top of the hair. 1. Wash hair with a deep cleansing/clarifying shampoo. Do not condition. 2. Dry hair with a blow dryer to make sure the hair is extremely porous. 3. Put on gloves and apply Manic Panic Hair Color using a tint brush making sure hair is thoroughly saturated. 4. Comb through the hair color to make sure it is evenly applied. The cream may become slightly frothy. 5. Cover hair with a plastic cap and leave on for 30-45 minutes. For more intensity, add heat. 6. Rinse with cool water away from your face and body until water runs clear. Do not shampoo. 7. Style as desired. To prevent color transfer or bleeding, always make sure your hair is completely dry. Pro Tip: Use a hair dryer to evenly apply heat for 5-10 minutes of your processing time. This will help to open up the cuticle and allow the Manic Panic hair color to better penetrate the hair strand. Make sure to allow the hair to cool completely before rinsing out color.

I bought Ultra Violet after deciding I needed a color change (originally, I was RAW Bright Betty Red). I bleached the crap out of my hair until it was a sunset ombre sort of fade - yellow on top, neon pink toward the ends. I left Ultra Violet on for about an hour and a half before rinsing. I wish I would have left it a bit longer. While the color is fabulous and beautiful, I'm currently a week (and only one shampoo) out from dying and my color has begun to wash out considerably up on top. It's not BAD looking, it's just not as purple as it was, and you can see peeks of bleached hair poking out from under the color. I'm going to touch-up just for good measure. I'm not sure why it didn't take as well on the top of my head but it's likely my fault. :) Also, since I didn't evenly bleach my hair, it's purple up on top and plum-ish down toward the bottom - do NOT expect this color to work like permanent dyes and remove your current color/deposit new color - that's not how these work! They coat the surface of your hair and layer over the color you have. There are sections where I didn't quite get the color on there as well as i should have, and I have an interesting pink-purple blend. It's pretty, I like it, but next time I'll use two jars instead of just one, just for coverage's sake. I'm buying more to touch-up the top of my head with this weekend. It does stain clothing (which, sorry, you're pretty much screwed there) and will stain bathtubs/sinks/skin, but I have tips: #1, use gloves (duh) #2, lay down newspaper or old towels on your work surface, so when you set your jar down or lean against your counter, you don't spread the stain everywhere #3, When rinsing, lean over as close to the drain as possible and rinse the majority of the color out there before getting in the shower to rinse the rest of it. #4, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, use the eraser to scrub all surfaces the dye touched. Rinse the sponge well. It even works on your skin, just don't scrub too hard because it'll take off the top layer of skin if you do. Seriously, though, guys. It works. #5, Orange/Oxy cleanser - spray it on, let it sit, Magic Eraser over the top of it, rinse. Do this with every shampooing, and you'll have a white tub that stays white, I promise you. #6, when you're letting your color sit, wrap a plastic grocery bag around your head and pin it in place... just to avoid accidentally touching something with your gooey head. I have vaulted ceiling. My purple head came in contact with my white ceiling. Panic and chaos ensued. #7, use a color safe, sulfate/surfactant/salt-free shampoo & conditioner. ONLY shampoo when totally necessary, I recommend dry shampoo as much as possible. And if you don't want to buy a dry shampoo, look up how to make your own, or dust your hands with baby power and ruffle your hair with that. Makes your color last tremendously longer! ... show more

I have used Manic Panic since college over 20 years ago. The Amplified line has been a favorite of mine for just under half of that. It provides deep color that lasts about a month-- fading from a dark tone to a lighter one over time. That lighter tone rarely looks washed out like other color brands, so it gives me plenty of time to refresh it. This color in particular covers my grays well without having to treat my hair with bleach. If you apply it with a highlighting brush to grays, you get some nice variance and dimensionality. I am frequently complimented on this color. Before my grays, I would use the Vampire Blood color on bleached blond hair which would go from dark red to pink. Currently, I am using a bright green on my kid and it is washing very well, though the cool tone purple rinses out surprisingly fast. I happily endorse this product. Just be careful, it stains a variety of surfaces for a very long time. Apply it with gloves and try to avoid getting it on your skin if you don't want to look terribly bruised lol. ... show more

    • Vibrant color, not very good longevity
I had platinum blond hair and decided to dye it all purple. I left the color on over night and rinsed with cold water the next morning. The color came out very bright -- exactly how I wanted it. However, the color did not last very long. After one week (with no hair washing) the color had faded to a gray-ish color. I have been re-dying it every two weeks to keep it looking purple, rather than gray. The color itself is interesting; it often looks more blue than purple, depending on the type of light. It's great if you're looking for a cooler purple or a royal blue. I have used Manic Panic Amplified before in Atomic Turquoise. That color lasted a lot longer, so perhaps the Ultra Violet is not as strong. I will probably try a different brand next time to see if I get better longevity. ... show more

I have been using Manic Panic since 2009. I thought i would switch it up and try this instead of the regular jars just thinking it would be easier to self apply. I had noticed within a couple hours the color seemed to be less strong. So i had someone else apply it thinking maybe i did a bad job. I left the dye in for 2 hours and washed it out, not even one hour later it is already fading. I am very disappointed as someone who has spent years defending the brand ... show more

I am 63 and I finally let my hair go white so I could be free of dying my hair every two weeks to hide my roots. I bought the Amplified Ultraviolet, which comes in a bottle and not the pictured jar. I was not sure whether I should commit to a wild color from the get-go, so I mixed 3/4 color with 1/4 conditioner and painted the crown and ends of my hair, then left that in for an hour before rinsing. The result was amazing. A lovely pastel lavender. Because I mixed this with conditioner instead of their pastelizer, the colors faded fairly quickly with each washing--which I wanted, in case I hated the color. I have since experimented with other Manic Panic colors to create colors varying from silvery blue, taupe grey, light mauve, pink, intense lavender, violet, and different shades of purple. I recently tried mixing the Ultraviolet with the pastelizer, which holds the color better than conditioner. Because I color only the crown and ends, my natural white hair shows through in the middle. It shows I am not hiding my white hair, just showing it off with highlights. I get comments from strangers -- men and women-- all the time.
