Seemed a little lightweight when I unboxed it, but it's not intended for a lot of movement. Were replacing our heavy duty cardboard chick nursery. We introduce 3 to 6 chicks every couple years to our flock, and usually maintain 9 to 12 hens for our family eggs. So this cage satisfies our requirement for something that can suspend food and water buckets, easily storable, and can easily handle 6-9 chicks for their first 12 weeks until we introduce them to our big girls. We did purchase a 48x48" 1/4" plywood base to set it on and, inserted large sections of cardboard (old boxes) on top of that to help contain moisture from fouling the plywood. The cage's weight keeps it from sliding on the plywood so no fasteners were needed. Happy owners :-) ... show more

Very lightweight, but structurally sound. I read the comments on here and they were told this set up doesn’t have a bottom, so they would lay it on the grass. This is why I chose to buy this set up, because I thought my tortoise would have all the grass underneath and available to him. Still very cute, and does what it’s suppose to! ... show more

I ordered this, not sure if it would work for keeping chicks. But once it arrived pulled it out of the box, it was bigger then I expected. I plan on boxing the sides around and using this as a brooder box inside my coop. I literally took it out of the box unfolded it and was ready to be used. Don't hesitate just order it, well worth it. We have 4 new chicks and we let them outside almost every day. They get to sit in our tin tub with a heat lamp until they grow a little bet. This allows them to be safe from cats and hawks.

I didn’t want to ask my husband (who’s been swamped with work) to build me brooder so I bought this. I’m super happy with it!! He modified it for me by putting it on 2x4s and a piece of plywood with casters. It actually could be raised up a bit more because my girls (3 weeks old) can already fly up to perch on the sides. Although if you just put it as is on a tarp with wood chips it would be fine as others have mentioned. The hinged lid closes and latches so they are safe from any “visitors” who may sneak into the garage. Well worth the money for the time it saved us! ... show more

My only misconception of this product, is there is no way to lock the sides in place. It's not a huge problem, and it is still sturdy otherwise. I use it currently as an indoor chick brooder. It's wonderful!

    • Good chicken run
Easy to assemble the latch for the door is kinda weak. We are using it for a chicken tractor so we added boards around the bottom for stability when we move it .
