My ONLY regret with this purchase is I didn't buy sooner. We have the quintessential neighbors from hell--completely insane and they've made false reports to the police and codes on us so many times, the deputies advised us to sue them for harassment. Horribly evil people. We've had no privacy our our home's deck/property since we have lived here, until adding this shade to the deck. Now, when Voldemort and Bellatrix release their evil canine to their deck to bark at us, he can't see us anymore and is unfazed. This worked perfectly for an outdoor tanning room! Now i have privacy but can still enjoy being outside. These do need some sort of poles to keep each piece upright. It took more work than I expected but my husband made it work You do have to be careful when opening/shutting or it could break and should not use when windy outside Otherwise its fantastic and i love it

My husband had this up in a very short time and it works perfectly. Just take your time retracting it so it doesn't get wrinkles. Don't just let it go. Keep your hand on the handle to help guide it in.

It's a nice screen, works well as advertised, but caveat emptor, the supplied concrete screws say they are supposed to be 10mm and use 10 mm masonry drill bits, and I couldn't get them installed with 10 mm drill bits. Instead I had drill 12 mm holes, to make room for plastic sleeve that accompanies the screws. You should be very careful about installing screws that are removable if you live in an HOA or have a landlord with restrictive policies. Another problem is that in the US, metric drill sizes are not easy to find, as everything is in inches, and the size you need for these screws is larger than 3/8" but less than 1/2" dimension. That means you can't use US drill bits because the nearest sizes would be too small or too large for the supplied screws. Also even worse, if you did buy 1/2" or 3/8" inch cement screws, they won't fit in the metal brackets for each pole because the holes drilled into footings are just too small. Thus I was stuck with a 10 mm hole, that required 12 mm drill bit to make it wide enough for the plastic anchors and allowed the concrete screws to be tightened. Thus the only real way to install this system is to use 10mm concrete screws, with the supplied plastic inserts, but be sure to pre-drill a 12 mm hole (not 10mm) because the 10mm hole just won't allow the screws in.

Very sturdy and well packaged. Great retractable feature. We will see how long the springs last and how well the fence material is in the long run. It would have been nice to have a kit to install on a side post of a fence. Example: Patio has fences on each side and in between is grass. I have purchased heavy stones from a home improvement store and layed the stones down into the grass (think stepping stones). I had to get creative. I have mounted each metal post into the stone with the included bolts and anchors. I am in the process of putting steel bolts through the stone so that itโs even more secured and it will be harder for the stones to lift up since the poles are dependent on the stones. The fence is sturdy and has a lot of resistance so itโs important to understand that when installing it the way I did or in general. For those who have cement floors or a well paved ground then definitely a no brainer. A side bracket would have been very useful. I end up using a nail on each side of the fence and tied a cord on the nails then wrapped a cord around the top of each fence that retracts to hold it better in place as I have witnessed with heavier winds the metal posts that holds the fence in place were slightly moving and did it to be extra precautions. Update: The middle post did lift up because of the wind build up. Long steel bolts should rectify that.

I didn't use the supplied anchors.. I installed mine on a concrete slab so I just used some 1/4" tapcons with washers that I already had laying around.. I used 6 2.5" for middle section and 4 1.25" for each post. Install probably took me about 20 min to put up. It's only been up for about 2 months and used maybe 12 times. I left it open/extended or exposed for 2 days. It rained one day so I left it open for another to dry. It will slightly start to sag in the middle when left open so I don't advise this to be used as a permanent enclosure. I'll also point out I have one of them fully extended, you can't make it any tighter, this one also sagged a bit in the middle as well. However it can be corrected by guiding it in right as I'll explain below... It is a canvas like material so I wouldn't recommend putting this around or leaving it open near a wood burning fire pit, hot ashes may burn through.. My only concern is how long the spring mechanism will hold up, only time will tell. That, being said, it's perfect for privacy around my hot tub! NOTE: When closing it, letting it retract in, try to use the top of the material to guide it in perfectly straight using the top of the internal spool, keeping it on track. My wife is only 5'2 so she was a little to short to guide it in as I mentioned. Failure to guide this in correctly will leave it looking sloppy the next time you use it, and it also won't seem closed all the way. This method will also help keep the material look straight when opening again as this will help correct the sag. Hopefully this will help some people out because there isn't any instructions for operation and maintenance..
