Features

  • YOUR GO-TO DUTCH OVEN: A flawless pairing of form and function that doesn't quit. The Lodge Dutch Oven not only makes your kitchen look good but is an enameled cast iron classic great for preparing and serving memorable meals. Broil, braise, bake or roast your favorite meals in the oven up to 500 Degree F.
  • WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON? It is glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400 F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.
  • EASY TO COOK AND CLEAN: The porcelain enameled interior has a smooth finish that minimizes sticking, promotes caramelization and resists staining. Although enameled cast iron is dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon scrub brush is recommended to keep your Dutch Oven in tip top shape!
  • HEAT RETENTION: The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating throughout both the bottom and sidewalls. The tightly fitting lid seals in moisture for scrumptious pot roast, stews or a large batch of beans. Our heat retention also reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking.

  • Beautiful, defect free Dutch oven at a great price!
Color: Island Spice Red
The 6 quart pot and lid showed up well packaged with zero defects and the Island Spice Red color is beautiful! Like one reviewer noted, the rim of the oven and the bottom rim of the lid doesn't have enamel, so I'll be sure and season/oil those very small areas and store with the lid protectors. I made chili in it cooking for several hours, and it performed perfectly with no hot spots, easy cleaning, etc. So far, I absolutely love this Dutch oven! ... show more

  • Lodge Quality Shines Through
Color: Burnt Sienna
I purchased this Dutch oven when it was on sale as I've been wanting an enameled piece of cast iron for a while. The price was almost 50% when I bought it. It arrived as expected and was securely packaged. The color of the piece is consistent and solid throughout. My first meal prepared in it was a chicken in salsa verde dish. It was a one pot meal as I first browned the chicken breasts and then brought together the remaining ingredients on the range top before reintroducing the chicken to the oven and placing it all in the oven for 30 minutes. The Dutch oven performed as intended heating evenly and retaining warmth after removal from the oven. We weren't quite ready to eat when cooking time was complete and the meal remained nicely heated. This piece would also have been quite attractive to have moved to a dining table for serving if we had guests. Cleanup was very easy. The rubber "clips" that keep the lid above the rim of the oven when stored is a small matter but an appreciated one as it replaces any need to store a paper towel hanging out to wick moisture away form the inside during storage. All in all, this has been a very good addition to my cast iron collection. ... show more

  • Great Dutch oven and a great value!
Color: Island Spice Red
Sure, I would own the over-priced brand that begins with an L if I was a millionaire, but I’m not. This I a beautiful alternative. Even heating and cooking. Plus easy clean up. I’ll be getting more pieces in the future.

  • Love it
Good sturdy enameled cast iron. I’ve used this Dutch oven at least 20 times since purchasing. Lamb shanks, chilli slow roasted shredded beef etc. This pot works great and is very sturdy. It’s thick and heavy and has a nice outer coating. I got the red one and it looks just like the images. I would say to try to clean this as soon as possible to prevent staining but it’s going to happen regardless. Overall, it’s been great to cook with and looks good too. ... show more

  • Fabulous
Color: Oyster White
This is a gorgeous pot at an affordable price. I’m glad I bought it. Much larger than my other cast iron pots. It’s heavy and has a substantial enamel coat. With even heat distribution I think it will cook things nicely. A+ for this one.

  • I LOVE this!
Color: Indigo
I've always wanted a Dutch Oven and I've been cooking for myself and/or family for over 50 years! I finally decided I was going to get one and read a lot of reviews for different brands. Knowing that Lodge was a leader in cast iron, I decided on this one. I don't like uncoated cast iron, but with the enameling on this one I figured it would be OK. The Dutch Oven arrived in perfect condition, no chips or problems of any kind. I've used it multiple times now and it does a fantastic job on the top of my gas stove and goes right into the oven, cleans up with ease - I couldn't be happier! Two things, it IS heavy particularly when full of food and I did keep the little rubber spacers to place back on the edge of the pot then put the lid on (upside-down, takes up less room) for storage. This avoids any possible future chips I think. If you can manage the weight, this is a wonderful addition to the kitchen. ... show more

  • Lodge is incredible
Color: Midnight Chrome
The media could not be loaded. I chose the Lodge 5 Qt. Dutch oven in ‘Midnight’ - which, is a slightly metallic black leaning hematite finish. It’s very beautiful. After many uses, the outer finish shows some patina from some residue unknowingly left on it before a 500°F oven temp for ‘no knead’ ciabatta bread, twice. That doesn’t hamper its performance. The interior is a biscuit colored enamel that matches the Lodge ‘Oyster’ 3.6 Qt. shallow braiser I also purchased. The interior is non staining so far, shows off food and it’s entirely easy to deglaze and clean. It’s heavier than Le Creuset and the build is thicker, but there are advantages to that: better slow, low braising and longer heat retention oven to table. The mold is more of a graduated curve toward the bottom than Le Creuset - so there’s less browning surface area, but better moisture circulation from the smooth interior lid toward outer walls basting food downward and toward the center. I find I like the interior taper for deglazing and whisking sauces without furiously working toward corner edges - it’s a more natural and easy glide with Lodge to get the delicious bits into the sauce. It’s thicker, so just be prepared that a full pot roast and veg is heavier to handle than with Le Creuset. I like the slight dome on the lid. It’s fits more and it’s better for the moisture circulation than my experience with Staub. I prefer a smooth domed enamel lid because it’s easier to deglaze and clean than those annoying lid bump designs other brands have. Lodge has an eon of ‘Americana’ classic behind it. Design-wise, that’s a look: the steel shot iron has a little texture and Lodge pieces lean hardy, built to last. The double layer ceramic fills and smooths the surfaces. Lodge Foundry is in Tennessee, USA. Lodge enameled pieces are from China. The handles are a comfortable hold. Better than many other brands. The knob is 500°F tolerant stainless steel with an etched ‘LODGE.’ The lid fits well. The rims are black, unglazed ceramic over cast iron - they don’t slip. 4 hour braises don’t dry out. I haven’t had a problem with dumplings, so I know mine doesn’t lose a lot of moisture. I did notice the sauce reduction was better in it compared to Le Creuset though - just clingier and less separation. I found this a bonus because it eliminated a step with my pot roast jus. But, that also means moisture was escaping a little more than with Le Creuset. Heat distribution and retention is aces. In fact, I had to upgrade my mitts for higher temps and longer fit up the arms just to keep up with it. Hee. For all these reasons: flavor, texture and results for an affordable price, Lodge is superior to other cast iron enamel pieces I own. They stand behind their products. That makes me a brand fan. Conveniently, silicone spacers were included for chip protective lid storage. Or, high heat ‘venting’ while in operation. The best part is the incredible value price. It’s really incredible. It’s still an investment, but I feel like Lodge is not so dear that I have to baby it. Mine hasn’t chipped. I don’t bang metal utensils on it or temperature shock it, but it’s durable and I’m finding I use it more because of this. I’m comfortable putting it through some paces and if the worst happens, I wouldn’t cry like with Le Creuset or Staub price points. I was kind of hoping Lodge would design an adorable stainless or pewter tree branch, woodland creature, antler or pine cone lid knob series. Or, that they’d offer matching little 1/2 Quart lidded enameled cast iron coquettes or enameled cast iron pans and oven casserole sets, muffin pans or a bread cloche so I can extend my Lodge collection. Omg, are you still reading this? Hugs. Let’s go eat! ... show more

  • a bargain
Color: Island Spice Red
I’ve been on the fence for years about a dutch oven, mostly because of the expense. I couldn’t justify spending a couple hundred bucks on one. This dutch oven is very reasonably priced and is nice and heavy. It arrived nicely packaged and without any blemishes. It’s super convenient to use- it’ll go from the stovetop to the oven and back without a problem. My only regret is that I didn’t buy this sooner. ... show more
