I’m a hobby woodworker and my eyes aren’t what they used to be. It helps to have good overall lighting in my shop and helps even more to have good task lighting. So I have gooseneck lamps on my bandsaw, miter saw, drill press, and router table. I recently bought a lathe and wanted a gooseneck to go with it. My least favorite gooseneck has the switch on the power cable. I find that inconvenient and like that this lamp has the switch right on the lamp head. Makes perfect sense. The gooseneck is 22 1/2 inches long from the top of the base to the start of the lamp housing. That’s longer than any of my other lamps. It’s also stiff enough to hold adjustments. Very pleased with that. The light comes with a metal base that you can use to attach the light to a vertical surface. I plan on attaching the base to a piece of plywood that I can move around and then clamp in place . I like the light overall, but wish I could adjust the LED beam to illuminate wide or narrow areas as needed. Having said that, it is a task light, and I expected it to give focused instead of broad lighting. From a foot above my workbench the illuminated field was about 10 inches across, with the brightest illumination being 6-8 inches. The other thing I’d like is a longer power cord. The web description and user instructions say the cable is 60 inches, but the one on my light was just over 44 inches. Maybe they were counting the cable inside the gooseneck. Four stars because it’s a bright light and a better-than average gooseneck.

The magnetic base wasn’t strong enough to hold the weight of the light when it was sitting on a flat surface. Maybe it is made for sitting against a rounded surface like a pipe or something. Not sure but it didn’t work for my needs. Too bad because I liked the design.

I bought this for one of my drill presses. Good, strong magnetic base that securely fastens to steel/iron. So easy to detach that I find myself using it all over the workshop. VERY pleased with this purchase.

This is a great light with excellent brightness and very flexible. It is also long enough to do whatever you need. BUT... the mounting base failed in our office (medical practice) after just one day. Sadly, the base the light mounts on is soft plastic on which the flexible shaft is held by one wafer-thin nut and a washer. What happens is that if, in moving the light around, any rotational force is applied, the nut backs off (no matter how tightly you secure it) and soon gets slack. When this happens the light goes all floppy and cannot be positioned. I was forced to completely revamp the mount, discarding the plastic. instead I used the metal base that the plastic mount is secured to, and welded two small pieces of steel to support the flexible shaft. But this was a major operation which involved completely dismantling the light, cutting the power cable (which would have melted during the welding process), and then re-assembling the entire thing and soldering back the cable. It now works well and is solid as a rock, but I really shouldn't have needed to do all that. This is a great light degraded by a poorly designed mount. Pity.
