  • Liked the first one a lot, So bought a 2nd one, Nice display, long 25ft cable to plug in
Size: 16A EV CHARGER
I like that it is well built and works for my Ev ( Ford Mach-E ) perfectly. I have been using this charger for a month now and it works great. This charger has a color screen which is a plus that it highlights results and looks cool. Bought this as a charger for our cabin. We needed the level 2- Nema 6-20 -16 amp charger as we have a 20amp 6-20 240v outlet which this works for perfectly . I like that it comes with a 120v adapter Nema 5-15P if you need to plug into a regular 120v outlet. You can easily change current before you plug into car, you can set 8 amps, 10 amps, 13 amps and 16 amps. Just hold down the A (amp) button till it turns red. I posted photos of it being used with our Ford Mustang Mach -E at 8 amps,10 amps, and 13 amps at 120v and 16amps using 240v, and compared the readings on this display to a dedicated plug in digital Kill-o-watt type meter. Readings were fairly close and acceptabe, for voltage, current ( amps ) Kwh used and Power ( watts ) and has a timer as well for delay start and time in use. This is easy to set the delay timer from 1 to 12 hours. Just hold the Timer button before you plug into the car till it turrs red and click to add 1 hr delay at a time. I wish you could progam in a time of day to charge, but not sure who would have such a charger at this use level and price range. You have to set the amps and timer before you plug into the car or within a few minutes of plugging in. This keeps someone from playing with the controls while in use. The cord from car plug to charger is about 23 ft, add about 3 ft for Wall plug cable and charger, so you have abourt 26 ft total length for from wall plug to car. ( plenty long) If you need more length buy a heavy duty extension cord, short as possibe that you need and get a 12 gage cord with gnd, do not use a 14 gage unless it is a short one. Do not use a 16 gage extention cable. It will over heat cost you electricty from the added resistance, and not be safe. The case is a semi-hard cover with very druable fabric like material, The charger looks well built. I wll repost if anything changes. For the price I do not think you can beat this online. If you need a level 1 charger that can charge at different levels or need level 2 at 8, 10, 13 or 16 amps, this is a great choice! We will see how it does over the long term. I will post back if anything changes or giive you an update. Love this unit so bought a 2nd one for our cabin. Put on killowat to compare, the 2nd unit, and voltage, amps, watts, were all very close, The unit only uses 1.8 watts when not charging, which is better than my Ford Charger which uses 2.8 watts when not charging. With discount right now, this is a great buy ... show more

  • Nice unit! Able to use 16A on a 20A 120v outlet unlike some others
Size: 16A EV CHARGER
I got this because I have a 120v 20A outlet in my garage and wanted a little better charging performance than the standard charger that came with my EV, which would only draw 13A. In the cold, 13A 120v barely charges the car. Getting 30 - 40% back on a 78wh battery would take over 24 hours because such a high percentage of the power was used to keep the battery warm enough to charge. This charger allowed me to get up to 1.7kw instead of 1.2, which helped some. Then I managed to get one of my outdoor outlets converted to 240v and 20A (getting it to the detached garage will require trenching, and I have a "no trenching in January in Michigan" rule.) This allowed me to plug in the car and get 3.6kw of charging power which really helps. I was able to reclaim 70% of the battery in 13 hours after a long trip, which was great (if I needed faster, I have 2 pay-per-use stations near my house). One thing that has really impressed me is that even in the -5 degree weather we recently had, the cord remained flexible and did not get stiff. The unit is easy to use and well worth it for the $100-ish that I paid for it. Only time I had an issue was when I dropped the connector and it got some snow in it, which would trip the internal breaker and it would not charge. A hair dryer and some jiggling to get the water out solved that issue and I've had no problems since. ... show more

  • Works Well Until It Doesn't
Size: 16A EV CHARGER
So even though the cars contain the actual chargers and this device is the supply line (despite being called a charger), it works well. I live on the second floor of a condo without a proper roof or shade for my balcony. There is a regular 120v outlet on my balcony (nema 5-20) and through weeks of snow, thawing and extreme freezing - this unit has survived and has provided consistent charging. I have a 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Electric, so backing into my spot makes connecting easier, but the cord is so long that I don't need to back into my space at all. It still connects from the most inconvenient angle with slack to spare. I'm getting about 1.1-1.3 kwh of charging while using it. I haven't hit the cap of 1.92 from this outlet yet and I don't have a way to use the 6-20 connector yet. I blame the lack of max charging on the car. The NA model doesn't have a heat pump while the international version does. I'm certain that I'll hit the max easily once weather permits, but I'm impressed it's doing this much in this ridiculous cold weather. I have a 240v outlet (nema 14-50) that I could use to potentially hit up to 3.84 kwh with this charger, but I'd need a 6-20 to 14-50 adapter. I just bought a second charger that could 14-50 with native 32a for 7.68 kwh charging. The downside is that I have to leave a crack in the door on my balcony when doing level 2 charging. I just use it on my more busy days, this slower charger that I can leave outside keeps me well topped up on most days. My car has a 38.3 kwh battery, it would take it 32 hours from empty to fully charge at max speed. Real-world I haven't dropped below 30% yet for charging. It gets to 100% charged within 24 hours or less most of the time so I'm certain it's hitting higher numbers when I'm not watching it. Update: This stopped working back in June. I'm not seeing water or other damage. The display still comes on, but it doesn't actually charge anymore. I've tried multiple outlets, it's not working. ... show more
