    • Does what it should
Used this on a Volvo XC-90 Plug-in Hybrid Recharge. Specs at max 16 amps allow for max of 3.6 kW, so this one at 3.84 kW was all we needed. With an 18.8 kW battery, charging time should be about 5 hours. Ordered this charger as the price point was good as well ($130 after sale price and $20.00 coupon, plus tax) - it was probably the least expensive that we saw, but with the features that we needed. Used this with a 16-50 to 6-20 adapter and plugged into a 240v 16-50 RV outlet at the back or our house. Cords seem to be of good heft. The plugs fit tightly. Unit turned on, I did not change the settings, and the J1772 connector to the car also fit fine. Car recognized the Level 2 charging as well, and calculated out the charge time at the appropriate 5 hours. Charged well, did not overheat or get hot, shut off charging as expected. Have not used the timer feature yet but will soon. It would be nice if it had mounting features, but for the price, we can deal with it sitting on the ledge next to the outlet - might try to construct a holster of some kind to place it in on the wall. I did not yet measure the length of the cord and unit to see if together it is 25 ft, but it is long enough for where we are using it. If needed, can always get an extension cord. For the price, this is worth it. You can get fancier units that might look better or do a few more things, but ultimately this does what it should. I'm satisfied with this purchase. I will say that we live in CA and won't be dealing with temps below 30 degrees much and only with rain for a few months of the year. For us, keeping it dry should not be a problem, so I'm not really concerned about the water resistance and can't comment on it (we'll be keeping the unit itself covered and out of any rain). We also will not likely be using it in the heat of the day when the temps go to 110 degrees, but will be keeping watch on how it does in the heat of the summer. and will update if any concern noted. ... show more

What a way to ship -- how about how it just shows up in its retail box -- bubble wrap on the sensitive parts --- but most of the bubbles were popped. LOL Minus 2-stars -- but it got here and will have electrician look it over -- as they are wiring a 220v GCFI breaker/ RV plug box -- for this EV charger. 14-50 amp plug. Wire seems to be close to 10 gauge. NOT UL Approved anywhere I see -- DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO GET WET -- NOT EVEN A SPLASH... LOL I was able to wire together a 120v adapter -- and confirm as it states dual voltage -- it works rather nicely on 120v. I did go 20 amps on a kitchen 20amp plug/breaker -- the charger stayed in the high 18 low 19 amps through most of the 4hr 45min charge -- that I tested on my 2015 Leaf I fell in love with and bought used. That was using 120v @ 20 amps. I started out at 16 amps but wanted to see if it would carry 20 amps as it should without tripping anything. I tested on a 15 amp plug @ 10 amps and worked just fine. I did not test the 16 amps on 15 amp yet -- not trying to burn anything down. Be mindful of what the electrical circuit is rated -- 120v or 240v -- as for ampacity -- DO NOT BE BURNING ANYTHING UP! I wired my adaptor with a nice heavy duty plug and 10 gauge wire (20 feet) -- nothing -- not even the 120v plug felt barely a little warm -- if anything. Nice readout of kilowatts and hour(s) charging and amp draw and temperature -- just get out a magnifying glass -- it's useful info. I think the charger showed no higher than 36-38 C while charging -- 98 to 100 degrees F. The connector -- to the car seems sturdy -- time will tell about the plastic's fitness. The control box itself seems sturdy -- but does whiff of cheap -- of course I was not very much cash either... I will use this and see how it goes. I would not call this better than the trickle charger -- the OEM Nissan charger @ 120v 12amp -- but it seems to work and allows you to push it a tad higher on the amps -- on 120v circuits than the OEM. Looking forward to 220v charging also! ... show more

    • Working so good we bought a second one to keep in the car

After installing a NEMA 14-50 outlet at home, we were looking for a good Level 2 charge for home use. The Orion seemed like a nice value so I took a chance on it. We consistently get 30-34 mi/hr charge rate to our 2021 VW ID.4. My wife didn't want to unplug it to take it with her, so we bought a second one to keep in the car. The delay function is nice. One thing I would love to have is bluetooth/app functionality, but at the price point of the Orion I can live without that. ... show more

    • Easy to use, portable.
Plug and play. Great for using if you go to campgrounds with rv hookups, and use an electric or plug in hybrid for a run around vehicle. Versitile, because I can choose the level of charge I need, and well made. Readout is clear, and charges my car just as fast as my built in charger did.

The product was delivered well protected by perfect packaging. The charger appears more sturdy than a similar OEM product and the cable is thicker and heats less than the OEM equivalent. For about a month, we have been very happy with the charger’s performance. We have identified one minor glitch: when charging is stopped manually (prior to reaching the target charging level), the display shows an error. To resume charging after such an error, the charger needs to be unplugged from the power outlet or the vehicle. Again, the glitch occurs only when charging is stopped manually. ... show more

This is a good charger for our EV. Had to get a special plug installed and a 40amp double breaker in the panel. It is easy to use and has good setting options plus keeps track of charging time. Only minor complaint is you can’t turn it off while not in use, but can unplug it. We use it at 32amps and the wire gets warm (not hot) and also the warms the garage which might be a bonus in winter. ... show more

This unit has worked well for us for the past 3 months for level 1 charge overnight. The advance timer (by hours only) is helpful but there is no setting for shut off, and we prefer to charge only when we have the lowest utility rate, so we get on our car's app at 6AM to stop charging (2pm weekends).
