Unfortunately the overcharging protection cannot be disabled [verified with the manufacturer] and causes errors with my Chevy Volt. After the car has charged to full the EVSE will detect that the battery is full and turn itself off. It will not turn itself back on unless you unplug it from the car, wait a bit, then plug it back in. This is unfortunate because the Volt already has overcharging protection built in. It needs to have a constant connection because it will run the battery heaters in the cold, and run the air conditioning in the heat to keep the battery pack thermally managed. On a normal charger, this will mean charging will kick back on and keep the battery topped off after those things occur. With this charger, it will just stay off completely and you may come back to your car with half of it's battery missing. Also will throw these errors in the picture on the dash, never had that happen with other EVSEs.

I use this charger for trickle-charging (standard wall outlet). I cannot say I studied it too much; I just know that when I plug it into my car, my car charges at the rate expected. I leave the charger plugged into the outlet at all times with no power consumption to make mention of, and just plug into my car as needed. My only complaint (which was me being careless) is the rubber tether keeping the cap attached to the plug. It is so thin and fragile, I accidentally ripped it clean off without even trying. Obviously does not affect function, I just need to try and not lose it now.
