  • Great charger! Great charger!
Color: Black Style: NEMA 14-50 Plug
I couldn’t be more pleased with my purchase of the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger! The "dumb" charger -- meaning not the 'smart' charger is what I came to purchase after reading about the internet connectivity issues. This charger is simple, works great, looks great and I am very happy with this item. Easy Installation: The NEMA 14-50 plug makes setup a breeze – just plug it in, and you’re ready to go. No need for complicated wiring or professional installation unless you’re mounting it permanently. [yes, there should be a cover on the exterior NEMA outlet! - but that is between me and my electrician... separate from the grizzl-e itself,] Robust Build Quality: The metal case enclosure feels solid and built to last. It’s UL Certified, which gave me peace of mind about safety, and it performs beautifully outdoors, even in heavy rain. Super Fast Charging: With 40A output, my hybrid Jeep wrangler charges from zero to full in just over a couple hours. Weather-Resistant Design: This charger lives outside, and the fact that it’s designed to handle various weather conditions has proven true. I haven’t experienced any hiccups, even in wet conditions – this thing is a tank! [Note: AI helped me write this review, however, it was edited and submitted by a real live human, and I did indeed purchase the grizzl-e charger and installed it on my house as shown in the attached image.] ... show more

  • Fast, solid, and half the price of comparable chargers
Color: Black Style: NEMA 14-50 Plug
It’s only been a week, but so far, so good. I had an electrician install a 220V outlet for the unit. The charger feels industrial-grade: solid metal enclosure, clean design, no flex or rattle. The included cable is long enough to reach our vehicle easily, which sounds minor but matters day to day. The only hiccup I’ve encountered was unplugging mid-charge. Doing so confused the car’s charging negotiation (“handshake”) and required a quick vehicle restart before charging could resume. Not a deal-breaker, just something to be aware of. Performance has been excellent. Our Volvo XC90 now charges in about four hours, compared to roughly twelve hours on our prior setup. For roughly half the price of many competing chargers, the Grizzl-E Classic delivers exactly what I wanted: simple, fast, and solid. Excellent bang for the buck. ... show more

  • This Is A Great No-Nonsense Charger And White Is So Much Better! (With A 3 Mar, 2025 Update)
Color: Avalanche Style: NEMA 14-50 Plug
3 Mar, 2025 Update: This thing has worked flawlessly from day one! Because it's white, it's probably about 50 degrees cooler inside than the black one! I expect it to work and work and work... VERY nice charger of outdoors! (And I sent the black one they had sent back and got refunded without any problem!) _________________________________________________________________________ On Jul 30, 2020, I had ordered a Grizzl-E Classic. It seems to be almost exactly the same as this Avalanche, except it's black. It has to be out in the sun and weather. I have no garage and all the electric is on the southeast side of the building and I don't want to buy $500 worth of wire and run it around to the other side of this building. So, that one quit in October, this year (`24). That doesn't seem very long to me. That thing got HOT out there in the sun on a 95 degree plus day. All the stickers on the outside of it had fallen off. I even wrote that in the review. I don't know if that's why, but a while later, they came out with this white one! When it broke in October, I got done making sure there was still 240 volt power to the 14-50 outlet weatherproof outlet box, took that Classic apart, saw two fuses that both looked and checked good. The next step would have been to scour Al Gore's "Internets" and see if I could get a schematic, and|or contact the Canadian company for a schematic and see if they were nice enough, and|or take the board out of it and follow traces around and try to figure things out. Nah. I'm old and tired and wanted a white one anyway. Do NOT underestimate the difference between black and white as far as gathering heat from the sun! So, since it had gotten cheaper anyway, I ordered this Avalanche; two birds with one stone. I got a black Classic instead. I deliberated and decided to start with Amazon. YAY, AMAZON! No muss, no fuss. After explaining the somewhat complicated state of affairs, I was sent this Avalanche (and it IS the white one! YAY!) and got paperwork and stuff to send the broken Classic back! (I haven't done that yet; I wanted to make sure I actually got the right one and that it worked first.) Now, I've got this one (Avalanche) mounted and I had to move the 6 foot dryer cord that I'd bought for this one over to the Avalanche. It's working great! The Classic has a circuit board rev 1 and this Avalanche has a rev 6 point something circuit board. The nozzle that plugs into the car is much nicer and better looking! And it works just fine and, in my opinion, looks better! The charging cord on this Avalanche is MUCH smaller, lighter and more flexible! Nice! So now I have to send the Classic back. The Amazon rep (real nice lady) told me I have until Feb to do that. We have a Chevy Bolt and a Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Plug-In. An Emporia charger is the primary for the Bolt. That thing has a pretty huge battery and the Emporia is hard wired and is set all the way up to 50 amps (12 kw). This one (Avalanche) has about 50 feet of 10 gauge wire inside the building, which is 40 amps, but 80% as per code, is 32 amps. I now have an ideal setup! If the Emporia breaks, I can use this one for either car (A little slower for the Bolt; overkill for the Ioniq since the Ioniq throttles it down to about 12 amps anyway, only having an 8.9 kwh battery.) PERFECT! You don't want to buy two EV's and still only be a one car family because of the charger situation! This Avalanche has one drawback: It comes with a really short - 12 inches or 18 inches - power cord. My 14-50 outlet is about 2 feet off the ground and the Avalanche is about 4-5 feet off the ground, to the right of the outlet. To make that work, I had to go buy a dryer cord at the hardware store. Now the power cord loops between the bottom of the Avalanche to the outlet with a drip loop that goes almost to the ground before plugging into the bottom of the outlet for maximum protection against water! PERFECT! Now that it's white and doesn't get 170 degrees or whatever inside, I love everything else about it! It's all aluminum and TOTALLY waterproof (and bug and dust proof)! And it can be set to 16. 24, 32, or 40 amps using dip switches inside the unit to perfectly match whatever kind of wiring you have! Very nice charger! I had another charger years ago, that was nowhere near waterproof and had an inch deep lake in the bottom and corroded contacts when it finally broke. Night and day! Water proof is the way to go on planet Earth. ... show more

  • Well Made, easy to install
Color: Avalanche Style: NEMA 14-50 Plug
Packaged well and arrived as promised. Just installed and did my first charge with no issues. Heavy-duty cables and a sturdy box. Make sure you have a stud to mount it on, as the box is relatively heavy and would not do well with traditional drywall anchors. The plug cord is not terribly long, so it must be mounted near the receptacle. Not an issue, as a shorter cord is probably better with a 40-amp draw over many hours, but something to take into account when setting up your installation. Installed the receptacle myself, and used a high-end 60-amp Square D breaker, a solid high-end plug instead of the cheap ones built for a dryer, and the heaviest wire the plug and receptacle would take. Didn't have any heat issues at all with the first multi-hour charge, with my install or the unit cable, and that's what I was looking for. Almost $200 in materials for a self-install, but worth every penny to not worry about burning the garage down ;-) My first charge was at 9.4ah instead of the 1.2ah that my level one charger was giving me, charging at 7-8 times faster, which is perfect for a 40amp. No buggy apps, just plug and play, simple and easy. Made in Canada and apparently made well. Will update the review with any changes or issues, but so far, I would recommend to anyone who wants a sturdy charger without complications. ... show more

  • EVSE perfection; no BS, works every time. EVSE perfection; no BS, works every time.
Color: Black Style: NEMA 14-50 Plug
Love this charger. No frills, super heavy duty materials used for the charger connector and cable. The box itself is solid steel and doesn’t get hot even under max 40A load. It functions exactly like it’s supposed to; my Mustang Mach E Rally delivers about 8.8kW continuously, which is spot on with 220V x 40A. It’s significantly cheaper than a lot of other name brands and is basically impervious to the headaches the smart chargers have with constant disconnects and having to reboot to resume charging; just plug in and it goes. Any modern EV has the ability to set charge rates, times, current, charge percentage, etc within the car or connected app on their phone, so “smart” chargers are just redundant. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. The plastic included hanger is ingenious; you can haphazardly push in the charger cable from any angle and it just snaps in place and stays there; no need to line it up just right at the perfect angle. If it ever dies, I’m buying another one. ... show more

  • Like-New Performance, Rock-Solid Protection, Adjustability & Simple Connectivity – Excellent Used
Color: Avalanche Style: NEMA 14-50 Plug
I bought this Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger (40 Amp) used, and it’s been an outstanding experience from day one. Even though it was pre-owned, it arrived in excellent condition and looked almost new. Performance is exactly what you want from a Level 2 charger—fast, consistent charging that makes overnight charging effortless. My EV charges significantly faster than with a standard outlet, and it’s been completely reliable with zero hiccups. One of the biggest positives is the rugged build and built-in protection features. It feels extremely durable and weather-ready, with strong safeguards against overheating and electrical issues. That peace of mind matters a lot, especially for a charger that’s running high power for hours at a time. It’s clearly designed for long-term, real-world use indoors or outdoors. I also really appreciate the adjustability, especially the ability to dial down the amperage to match different circuit limits. That flexibility makes installation much easier and helps prevent breaker trips, while still giving you the fastest safe charge your setup allows. On the connectivity side, it’s intentionally simple—which I actually like. There’s no complicated app setup or unreliable Wi-Fi pairing to deal with. It’s basically plug-and-charge, which means fewer points of failure and more consistent performance. It may not be “smart,” but it’s dependable, straightforward, and always ready when you need it. Installation was easy, and once it was up and running, it’s been completely hassle-free. The cable is thick but flexible even in cooler temperatures, and long enough to comfortably reach the vehicle without awkward positioning. For a used unit, the value is incredible. It feels like I got a premium, heavy-duty, adjustable, and safe EV charger at a major discount. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Grizzl-E Classic to anyone who wants reliability over gimmicks. Overall: excellent performance, strong protection, useful adjustability, and simple, dependable connectivity—all at unbeatable value, even used. ... show more

  • Straightforward Charger But with Install Glitch Straightforward Charger But with Install Glitch
This is a nice, straightforward EV charger that can plug right into an existing 240 wall outlet. (Mine has the NEMA 6-50) plug, apparently a less common plug in the EV world. This charger got a great review from Wirecutter and that influenced my purchase. Mounting the charger box was easy, but the holster for the charging plug was another matter. I LOVE the long cable. I needed every last inch of the 24 feet to reach the car's charge port. My previous cars had charge ports on the left, this one on the Hyundai IONIQ is on the right. My outlet was up front, but the charge port is in the back. The cable just managed to reach the charge port. And I mounted the plug's holster near the car port, far from the charger itself. Note: This is not a "smart" charger. It has no WiFi / Bluetooth functions and no remote controls via an app. I did not need that, so that's fine. I can control the scheduling of my charges from the car. I had two installation glitches; both pertain to the EV Plug Holster to hold your plug on the wall when it's not plugged into the car. 1). The digital owners manual (I applaud not wasting paper) said it came with 4 Phillips head screws. Mine came with only 2 of those screws. It came with two more screws that are Robertson head (small square holes). I don't have a Robertson head screwdriver. 2). I managed to get one screw partly into a wood stud. That was just fine. But then it took more than 20 minutes of struggling and using two screwdrivers in tandem just to get the second screw to emerge from the hole in the back and into my starter hole in the wall. That's because the top of this holster is three inches deep and at a slope so the screw wants to fall out, and even when inserted, wants to grab the edge, but that's not where the hole is. (Hope that makes a bit of sense.) For that, I give 4 stars instead of 5. This is rated as waterproof to install outdoors, but mine is inside a garage. ... show more

  • Works great for 2021 Tesla M3
Color: Black Style: NEMA 14-50 Plug
Just picked up a used 2021 Tesla M3 and had a NEMA 14-50 plug on the exterior of the house. I also have a Tesla charger in the garage, but park other ICE cars that are "ranked" higher on my list that deserve protection of the indoor space. Hence the Tesla is parked outside and needs to be charged. This worked perfectly. Plugged right into the 14-50 and then mounted to the side of the house. The Grizzl-E came with a mount for the cable and plug for cable management. Drilling holes in my house was probably the most "challenging" aspect of the install, but took maybe 20 minutes at most to mount the charger and the cable mount. I am relatively handy though. The Grizzl-E is built solidly and the cables are thick and durable. The 14-50 plug cable is super thick, so I had to use a Dremel to trim the cover to my 14-50 waterproof enclosure so I am able to close the door to protect the plug against the elements. Been using the charger for the last 2 weeks and so far, so good. It is charging at 32A and I plug in overnight, setting my Tesla app to charge at 12 a.m. and stop by 5 a.m. for off-peak utilization. This one is the "dumb" Grizzl-E charger so it doesn't have wi-fi or an app to control but you don't need that, as you can control everything and check your stats through the Tesla app. Saves you a few $$ for other accessories you can buy for your EV. Since I have a Tesla, I just connect the Grizzl-E to the Tesla adapter and am good to go. I bought this one because of a number of good reviews I saw online and the fact that it is UL listed, so gives some comfort for electrical safety. I believe there are others on the market that don't have the UL listing. Great charger for the price. ... show more
