I have used my NEMA 14-50 charger for several days now, and it has performed its role for charging my Nissan Leaf surprisingly well. There are no extra parts or internet connections that can malfunction, only 4 status lights to communicate what is going on between the car and the charger. You simply plug it into the J1772 port and the outlet plug, and the car directs the charger to function. Pros: 1. simple in its design and function 2. nearly indestructible design protects the charger components and the the J1772 plug 3. excellent water resistance with the ability to function in inclement weather 4. bonus carrying case with pockets 5. rubberized cable for power cord (not the plastic coated or cheap feeling style) 6. cable bends easily and without much effort 7. charge gun feels well made and not plastic-y 8. weighs 10 pounds Cons: 1. cable is shorter than I would have liked (16 foot), I would have preferred 20+ feet 2. cable is thick 3. an information screen with amps/volts/total power would have been useful Overall, the price point on this charger is excellent, and is almost unbeatable. The total power output is 9.6 kilowatts, which will charge even the largest batteries in only a few hours. This charger can serve as either your everyday charger, or it can be kept in the trunk of your car for road tripping. We chose Lectron as an affordable option for Level 2 home and portable charging. We've been happy with both our wall mounted and this portable version. Choosing this portable edition was to add a emergency option, we can pull into random RV parks and charge enough to get to the next fast charger. The RV parks we have checked have 50 amp service, so to get every ounce of charge we needed the highest portable cable. A quick test while visiting a friend we found we got the full capability of the cable. We've also added an adapter from Amazon to convert the twist lock 220 for this one in case we run into that scenario. ... show more
