    • 3 Steps to Finding Out If You Can Use this Charger

As another reviewer explained, while Lectron claims this works well with all Teslas, it is not accepted by some of the largest American Charging Networks. I attempted to use this at an EV-GO charger and kept getting error messages. Thanks to a review here, I discovered EV-GO Charging Network only accepts official Tesla Adapter. You can go to their website to verify, but they explain they don't like adapters because it poses a risk that you might damage their charging equipment. They only accept the official Tesla manufactured adapter. Second, not all Teslas are equipped to handle CCS charging. Found this first on Youtube and verified on Tesla website. Tesla will sell you a charging equipment upgrade that only costs $30 and is installed by the dealer. It allows you to use CCS1 chargers with your older vehicle. You can see the little box on Tesla.com website when you purchase adapter or adapter plus $30 upgrade to older Tesla charging hardware. Third, you can see if your Tesla is capable of CCS charging by going to your Home Screen in the car, clicking "Software" then clicking "Additional Vehicle Information" and look for “CCS Adapter Support” or similar wording indicating CCS is enabled. If it is not listed, you will need the hardware upgrade at a dealer. Also, if you sign into your Tesla account to order the adapter, it will tell you if the adapter will work with your vehicle. Hope all of this helps. I learned all of this trying to figure out why the Lectron adapter would not work for me. I like Lectron brand and was sad this did not work with EVGO charging network. Important follow up: I went back to the same EVgo station with the official Tesla adapter, and it worked perfectly. Even though it looks identical to this Lectron model, EVGO Chargers can apparently tell the difference.
