I have had a Le Creuset dutch oven for over 20 years and I love it. My dutch oven is great for many things, but this pan is so much more versatile and I use it much more. This is lighter, wider, and deep “enough” for most things I make. It is easy to clean and retains heat well on my electric (glass) cooktop. I have yet to find a “hot spot” or experienced uneven cooking (which often happens with my green pan skillets on the same cooktop.) I knew that the pan did not come with a lid and thought that I would not mind - but it turns out that I did mind. At first I used my old stand-by - a pizza pan, but then I tried the largest lid I own, a glass and metal model (pictured) from 1KEA - it fits perfectly and is super light weight! The aesthetics of this pan cannot be overstated. Of the many LC pieces I have this is the one that lives on the cooktop. It is the new kitchen workhorse and a pleasure to look at. Like others I added this to a collection of LC cookware. I already had a 12” skillet, a 30 cm braiser (3 1/2 qts) and a 26 cm braiser (2 qts). Why buy another? This pan has the dark enamel interior of the skillet and the capacity of the 30 cm braiser. The dark interior browns foods very well, it seems less sticky to me than the traditional LC light enamel interior at higher temps. The big difference between this pan and the braisers is that this one has slightly taller, straight sides. This somehow makes it fit better on a stovetop and easier to use. It is extremely well-sized for ‘Serves 4’ recipes, and any recipe calling for a 12” non-stick skillet works well too. It will also fill the role of a 9” x 13” casserole dish. The absence of a lid was not a problem to me. I got a 28 cm LC loop-handled lid from a European vendor, the same as I have for my other LC pieces. The only LC piece I know of that ships with a glass lid is their wok. Including an iron lid would significantly increase the price. However, it’s worth thinking about, as many ‘Serves 4’ recipes you might want to make in this require a cover (lid) at some point. I had to wait until my lid arrived to make those! ... show more

When I first saw this pan, I fell in love with the color. Yes, I'm superficial like that. I read review after review before making the decision to pay 5 times more for this than any pan I've ever owned. It was worth it! It has replaced a 12", 3 inch deep straight sided pan, as well as another 12" skillet with slanted sides. I have a glass top electric stove and the center of less expensive large pans seems to warp after a lot off use, making the heat distribution uneven. I love how this pan heats up evenly and retains heat. I have not used it in the oven yet, but know it will work great there. I tried using a pre-seasoned cast iron skillet and I just couldn't handle the maintenance. This pan provides the advantages of cast iron cooking without the cleaning hassles. If you are a kitchen product snob like me, you need this pan. And it's beautiful!!!! ... show more

I am not sure what everyone is complaining about. This is our seventh Le Creuset pot in 25 years and it is just as well-made as all of the others. It is an absolute joy to cook with and the black interior is somewhat nonstick as well as easier to clean. To the people who complain that there is no lid they should have looked at the pictures. It's quite obvious there is no lid. To the person who complained about the size of the pan they should've read the description because it clearly states 3.4 quarts.
