  • Easy to use.
This product comes with a software app that you install on your iPhone or Android smartphone, as well as a Bluetooth dongle that connects to your OBDII port. The dongle seems strong and solid, although there are warnings against dropping or handling it improperly. It is easy to put in your glove box or armrest console because it is about the same size as an old-fashioned cigarette lighter. I am pleased to report that the LAUNCH AIOBD seems to be capable of doing all that specialized scanners are. Almost all of the functions of a scanner, such as the LAUNCH scanner, are available to you, including control module configuration. However, compared to specialized scanners, the AIOBD tool is slower. Device speed might have had a role because I conducted my testing on an iPhone. The AI-powered diagnostics are one noteworthy feature. The AI generates a list of potential causes and recommended repairs when errors are discovered. But, like with any diagnostic gadget, some fixes can be complicated or costly, necessitating extra steps to identify the true problem. Before determining what to do next, I usually record and clear all codes first, then see which ones recur. This aids in determining whether you should seek professional assistance or manage the repair yourself. Additionally, it provides you with a sense of what to anticipate and serves as a safety in the event that you are uncertain about guidance from a dealership or shop. This aids in determining whether you should seek professional assistance or manage the repair yourself. Additionally, it helps you understand what to do. This package includes a Bluetooth dongle that connects to your OBDII port and a software application that you install on your iPhone or Android smartphone. Although there are cautions against dropping or handling the dongle incorrectly, it appears to be sturdy and substantial. Because it is almost the same size as an old-fashioned cigarette lighter, it is simple to fit in your glove box or armrest console. I am happy to inform that the LAUNCH AIOBD appears to be able to perform all tasks performed by specialized scanners. You have access to nearly every feature of a scanner, including control module setup, like the LAUNCH scanner. However, the AIOBD tool is slower than specialist scanners. Because I used an iPhone for my testing, device speed may have played a part. One notable aspect is the AI-powered diagnostics. When mistakes are found, the AI produces a list of possible causes and suggested fixes. However, like with any diagnostic device, certain repairs may be difficult or expensive, requiring further steps to determine the actual issue. I normally record and clear every code before deciding what to do next, then I look for the codes that keep coming up. This helps you decide whether to handle the repair yourself or get professional help. It also gives you an idea of what to expect and acts as a safety measure if you are unsure about advice from a shop or dealership. ... show more

  • Solid basic performance but geared toward DIY'er with expensive ala carte sub fees.
This review is for the: LAUNCH AIOBD Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner… This is a nice little device that plugs into your vehicles OBD/OBDII port and via a downloadable app turns your phone into a full featured automotive scan tool. Being an auto tech I thought I would give this a try. Once the app is downloaded the device connects seamlessly via Bluetooth to the phone and this was a nice surprise how easily it worked. The bandwidth seems very good and data is responsive. However my conclusion is that this is a great alternative for a DIY’er but not for a pro. The subscription fees are geared towards the DIY’er and priced at $20++ per brand so if you are working on different brands routinely this is just not economically feasible considering what this tool offers (solid diag but basic). The AI function which suggests common issues (mass produced cars have mass produced issues) is a nice add-on and I do wish more entry level scan tools had this. I plan to relegate this to the glove box when I take trips and this is a nice convenience factor I have to admit over carrying a case with scan tool. If Launch were to offer a reasonable full subscription fee instead of ala carte type fee AND upgrade the app to work natively full screen hi-res on tablets like iPad this imo could be a versatile entry level pro tool. Thanks for reading my review and I hope it was helpful to you. ... show more

  • Powerful diagnostics with smart AI insights—but the subscription model may be a dealbreaker for some
This Bluetooth OBD2 scanner packs a surprising amount of functionality into a compact, smartphone-connected device. Once paired through the required app (note: it’s not a passive plug-and-play accessory—you must use the app), it immediately pulled full-system diagnostics, including engine, ABS, SRS, emissions, and live sensor data, on a 2016 Honda Civic and a 2020 Ford Escape I tested it on. The most impressive aspect is the AI-driven fault interpretation. Instead of the usual cryptic codes, the app broke down problems in plain language, suggested specific replacement parts, estimated labor costs, and even predicted related failures. For DIYers and even experienced gearheads, that’s a huge time-saver—and it takes the guesswork out of smaller repairs like sensor swaps or emission system faults. There’s also a smog readiness check and historical data logging, which adds real-world value for long-term maintenance tracking. The bidirectional functionality (commands sent back to the car) also worked well. I tested injector resets, ABS bleed tests, and throttle adaptation on a 2019 Camry, and all executed smoothly through the app. This level of control, typically locked behind expensive shop-grade scanners, makes it a legitimate contender for serious DIYers or even small repair shops. That said, the subscription requirement for deeper features is worth considering. You can get basic OBD-II functions (check engine light, smog checks, fault clearing) for free, but most advanced diagnostics, full-system scanning, and AI guidance are locked behind a $20–$40 annual fee per vehicle brand. If you work on multiple vehicles or brands, the cost adds up quickly. For owners of a single car, though, the price is reasonable for what you’re getting. Overall, the hardware is solid, the software is polished, and the AI-enhanced features are genuinely useful. Just go into it understanding the recurring cost and confirm your vehicle is fully supported first. If you want high-end diagnostics with guided repair help on your phone, this tool delivers. ... show more
