  • Best scan tool for the money.
Color: Red&Black Set name: MD906Pro
To those who gave this unit one star because you couldn't be bothered to contact customer service to get things figured out: get a life. This scan tool does more than any other scan tool on the market and it does it with flying colors. I've used scan tools from Innova, Actron, OBDLink and other companies, and they don't even come close to the usability and functionality of this tool. You can do live scans, make-specific scans, generic scans, scans on the powertrain module, transmission module, ABS module, body module and more. I've done scans on 1998 Volkswagons through 2013 Audis and it has NEVER failed me. I've probably scanned 50 different cars from the USA, Europe and Asia in the 7 months that I've had this and it is by far the most thorough tool on the market. It catches things that don't even show up on the highest-priced Innovas (even if you use their over-priced make-specific flash modules.) This tool uses software from the MaxiDAS, which many pro mechanics use, so what you're essentially getting is the scan capabilities of the MaxiDAS without the bi-directional capabilities. I was fortunate enough to purchase this right when it came out and was priced around $220. It's since gone up in price significantly, but knowing what I know about this tool, it's still worth what they charge. Now that I'm using the MaxiDiag MD802, I wish I hadn't bought the OBDLink OBD-II USB Scan Tool Interface Adapter (425101), which after spending $$$ on the tool and the pro-upgraded software, actually ended up costing me quite a bit more. The OBDLink and the pro software only churns out generic info and is so much less capable than the MaxiDiag, that it never leaves the cart anymore. The Autel MaxiDiag finds issues that you will never find using a generic tool, inlcuding factory Bluetooth issues, lock switch problems, factory-specific ABS faults, etc. It lets you clear just about every code your ECU can come up with. This is a very important feature since on some makes, such as Hyundai, you need to clear the codes after you do the fix or the car will continue to think there's a fault and it will not work properly until the code is manually cleared. This is now becoming a common thing with manufacturers since they want you to take your car to a dealership, where it costs $120 just to use a factory tool to clear a code, which only takes a couple of minutes. In this regard alone, the MaxiDiag paid for itself after about four uses. For the sake of full disclosure, I was having a problem updating my scan tool the first time I tried Autel's Auto Update software. It was admittedly my fault, since I didn't follow the instructions in the manual exactly as written. I got in touch with Autel customer service and they fixed it in a day. You can't ask for more than that. The updates have been super easy to do and as of today, I'm running V2.0 of all the makes. There are 47 different makes represented on this tool, if I recall correctly, including Dacia ("GOOD NEWS!"), GM, Ford, Ford (Europe), Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Holden, Ferrari, Lancia, Chrysler, Suzuki, Fiat, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Honda, etc. etc. etc. I can't really think of anything bad to say about this tool. It's easy to use, professional grade and to be honest, it's a bargain when you compare it to the next closest thing out there that has the same capabilities. EDIT (November 2016): I've loved using this tool for the past few years. Autel has done a really good job with the software updates and its website is finally up to the level that this tool deserves. I recently paid $100 for another year's subscription to tool updates and am running Version 6+ on pretty much everything (meaning it's good on most vehicles up to the current model year.) As a scan tool, I still think this product is hard (if not impossible) to beat for the price. Since the tool originally came out, Autel has added additional functions like oil change light reset and several other handy functions. Five stars all the way. ... show more

  • very good tool...worth the extra $100 +price over actron and innova. review include important info for bmw users
Color: Red&Black Set name: MD906Pro
Scanner is all systems model, very impressed in initial quality....hope it will last Comes with plastis hardcase, cd, manual,4g sd card, usb cable, obd. Cable. Scanner can be powered from usb cable by computer or charger or by other adapter when away from car. Long review/ important info for some users i have tested it on 2001 crv, 2008 bmw 328 xi , 2005 cadillac and 1997 rav4. on crv: it read srs and abs, it disconnect from crv a few times in abs mode but always reconnects. I was able to see wheel speed sensor live data and other live data and generic obd info on bmw you need to know the car generation or it might appear the scanner does not read your car..IT DOES... The bmw named above is 4th generation so in my case i selected 3 series, then E90/91/92 which is the 4th generation/year range code name and then i get the prompt for specific model and choose 328 xi. Saw over 100 + choices for 3 series, 4 generation alone...Unit scanned over 30 modules in bmw and did show a few faults ( i did not varify faults..but most modules reported ok) and no mil/ check engine light present..just connected for testing. Only module explored was tire pressure, Scanner read sensors. One problem with bmw.. generic obd check froze scanner twice while module check works great....issue may only be this bmw and since you can read the modules otherwise its not a big deal to me On cadi it read modules and even confirmed with more detail what the onboard information center gave such as passenger side open loop on airbag among others 97 rav4 ..scanner reads live data..use to find bad connecter on oxygen sensor and varify fix... i think it will not read modules before 2000 ..i think i read somewhere in manual Unit updates flawlessly with vista pc. Inserted cd to update and was led to wesite wich redirected me to autel new website. I was required to sign up for an account...once that was done i was able to update after providing serial # and register password found in scanner setup section. software is nice in that it shows all possible updates and when you insert your sd card from the scanner in computer reader, it compares what is on the sd card and only shows updates that are not on the card..so you dont have to check line by line...software does it..you choose to install or not..i also like this because i intend to backe up.my sd card...size sent is 4 g.....you will need a larger card..maybe 8g or more to download all car model software and for saving live data scans. CON: none when i capare its ability to read modules as compared to innova and actrons line up, i can live with a few disconnects on some modules. But for information sake: does not read modules before 2000 (I THINK) Pro: like update software and by sd card, went smooth via vista. Can back up card Power via usb cable away from car Read 30+ modules on test bmw Live data works well Note/reminder: for some vehicles..you need to know car generation name...took me over two hours to figure out ..used google after initial failure to scan ... show more

  • Website back up and working well.
Color: Red&Black Set name: MD906Pro
I will update this review when and if I am able to get this working (see edit below). First off, gotta love that one-day free shipping with Amazon Prime! Also, the tool comes very nicely packaged in its plastic carry case, which holds the tool firmly and has room for the cables and manual. The manual is out of date, as is the downloadable .pdf copy. It tells you to go to a non-working website (www.maxidas.com) to register and update. The first thing I did, based on reviews here and elsewhere, was to go to the working website at pro.auteltech.com, where I registered successfully and downloaded the PCsuite software, which I had to do because the CD that came with the tool would not read fully on my computer. I ran the software, which installed Autel Update and Autel Printer programs. I ran the Autel Update umpteen times with no joy, only "download failed". Following advice on a forum to another customer with a similar problem, I reformatted the SD card that came with the device and tried again. Unfortunately, (my fault for being overconfident given that the advice was from Autel) I did not back up the existing files on the card before reformatting. I tried umpteen more times to download each of the software versions available on the site, and again no joy. The device came with version 4.4, but the site offered 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, and 5.1, as I recall. I say "as I recall," because pro.auteltech.com went offline last night and is still down, so I have no known way to even restore the software the device came with. I did submit a tech support request via the website before it went down, but have not heard from them. I understand why, as their US branch is NY based (their phone contact info indicates 9AM-6PM Eastern Standard Time M-F availability with a domestic number). It is Sunday, and the storm is severe, so perhaps their server lost power and perhaps they are not able to access it due to the weather. On the other hand, they are apparently being sued for copyright infringement by Ford, which makes me think their site could have been shut down by a court injunction. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2015/01/ford-tries-shut-down-third-party-repair-tool-copyright. In any case, the device is completely useless at this point, partly due to my own failure to back up the original software or use a different SD card. I'm glad I bought it from Amazon, because I can always return it, but I didn't buy this to return it, I bought it because I want it to work as advertised and as reported by so many satisfied customers reviewing here and elsewhere. Hoping to update soon with great success and at least a 4-star rating, but as of now, 1 star is the best I can offer. Edit: It is several hours since I posted the above, and I am pleased to discover that the pro.auteltech.com website is up and currently upgrading my card. It does the downloads quickly, but the installs take a loooong time. Not sure if this is because the site is involved, because my computer is normally pretty fast. As I said, I'm using a high speed card with plenty of space. I am a four-vehicle owner who does most of his own mechanic work, not a pro, so it may take a while before I have a large amount of experience with this device (and I hope, of course, not to need much). But I will be reporting how it does with my diesel 2007 Dodge Sprinter, which currently has lit check engine and SRS lights, and needs an oil change reset. As of now, I have upgraded my review to four stars and look forward to changing it again to five if all goes well. Edit: The speed of the SD card makes a huge difference. I used a #10 (fast) card when installing the updates. When it was done, which took several hours, I realized that it would fit on the card the device came with, which is a #4 (slow) card. I hadn't decided which card to use in the device and which to keep as a backup. Now I know that I'll be using the fast card in the device, because simply copying the files from my hard drive to the slow card started last night before I went to bed. I slept for about 7 1/2 hours. The process, according to Windows, is only 82% complete and still has about 5 hours and 45 minutes to go! I'll compare a specific operation with each card later and relate how long it takes using each. Edit: Well, I'm very surprised. I've only done one test to compare SD cards and their working speeds, but here's what happened. I did a scan of all systems of the Sprinter. The #10 (faster) card completed the scan in 3 minutes, 55 seconds. The #4 (slower) card completed the same scan immediately after in 3 minutes 26 seconds. Not a huge difference, but the opposite of the results I had expected. Prior to this speed test, the scans found several faults. I was able to save them to the device and delete from the vehicle computer all but two, which were the only two current faults. One is in the SRS (supplemental restrait system) that was identified as a short circuit in the squib of the driver airbag. I had removed the airbag portion of the steering wheel in an attempt to access the turn signal/windshield wiper switch which caused the SRS dash light to go on (one of the reasons I bought the device, as it has the capability of shutting this off without paying $140 to the dealer). I have yet to remove it again to find the short. The other fault was a short in the light that illuminates the ground and step below the driver door when the door is opened. It gave me a clue as to where to look for that short that I had not considered before. I haven't yet traced that down yet either though. I should add that there is one more fault that is causing the check engine light to go on. The device turned the light off, but I have not resolved the issue in the EGR cooler (I'm sure it's clogged with soot--a full day job for me to remove, clean, and replace, or $250 quoted by a non-dealer Sprinter specialist). If I run the vehicle through another diagnostic cycle by driving it, I'm sure this will come up again until I get the cooler cleaned. But it is good to know I can turn off the check engine light with this device. ... show more

  • Good results and no problems yet.
Color: Red&Black Set name: MD906Pro
Full System, All System, Four System, what is it!!! I read the reviews, the Amazon write-up, and the Autel website propaganda. Amazon's descriptions and pricing seem to add to the confusion. Autel customer service helped, a little. According to Autel, they DO NOT sell online, so any Autel code reader bought online is basically a knock-off and could be anything. Further, any sold by a store in the US is legitimate, and is the "all system" version. Autel does not sell the others inside the US. This model is about $150 cheaper than the "all systems" unit on Amazon, as well as those in the auto parts stores (the "real" ones). I needed a code reader and have had generally good support from Amazon, so figured I'd risk it, and send it back if necessary. Some have mentioned that the website would not recognize their unit, or that the updating was painfully slow. This is what I did (mostly, followed directions in the manual, which you can download from Autel's site before you buy): 1. created an account on the Autel website (don't need any information regarding the unit to create an account) 2. registered the unit (with info you find at "setup/about" when you connect it to your PC to power it up) 3. copied the entire SD card (92,XXX files, 3.77 gigs) to my hard drive for a backup 4. copied all those files to a 32 gig card (much more than I needed, but some mentioned the supplied SD card was too small) 5. verified that the unit and website were happy with the substitute card 6. updated - yes it is slow I don't know enough to determine if it will do everything it's capable of, but I suspect it does. I've used it to scan and clear codes on a 99 Neon, to scan and collect live (driving down the road) data on an 07 Yukon, and attempt to scan an 05 Crossfire. The Crossfire is supposed to require equipment that only some authorized dealers have, but I got a basic scan, and the machine found no trouble codes. What the machine told me matched well with known information for the Neon and Yukon. It did not correctly identify rat damage on the Crossfire. I am happy. Lots to learn now. One significant issue. Although the unit looked new, I had to use needlenose pliers to remove the SD card. It had been forced in upside down (relative to the correct position, at least). It appeared to have no damage. It had been used to collect data on a Benz, and when I registered it, I did get a full year access to updates, but only six months warranty. Amazon (NOT another seller) sold me a used unit. That's disappointing, but I risk all the problems again if I send it back. Will update if I have possibly useful info. UPDATE 23 JUL - one email to Amazon, full warranty period will be honored. Issue resolved easily. Much less trouble than returning it. Many potential problems discussed regarding this machine; not have materialized for me. Sorry, forgot to mention - I downloaded the PC suite software from the Autel site, which seems only to let you update (that's important), and PRINT. Some mentioned no success printing. I connected the unit by USB cable and could print from it to the screen, basically a text file. That I could cut and paste and do simple edits, and copy it to a Word file. So, you can generate a printed record and save to an editable file. That's all I know so far. ... show more

  • Worked great for reading codes on a 2008 BMW 650i
I recently bought a 2008 BMW 650i convertible and it's had a few minor issues. The most recent was an error message that the PDC system (park distance control) had failed. The PDC system is extremely simple -- just some small sensors on the front and rear bumpers, and a control box in the trunk. However, because these are non-returnable electrical parts, you can't just buy a new sensor (they are $200+ each) and swap out parts until you find the cause of the problem. Instead, you need to be able to pinpoint the problem FIRST, before you can start fixing it. To do that, I needed a code scanner that could do more than the basic $30 units. I watched a YouTube video that showed a guy diagnosing a BMW PDC failure using this exact model scanner, so I decided to pull the trigger and buy one. I was slightly nervous because there are apparently two different versions of the MD802 scanner -- one of them is a more limited version that only handles "4 systems", while the other version (which is physically identical) can read "all systems". This made me worry that I'd somehow pick the wrong unit and it would not be able to talk to my car's PDC computer. Well, thankfully everything worked out fine. My code reader arrived today (VERY fast shipping). I simply plugged it into my car's OBDII port and started reading codes (there were a LOT of codes on my car....which is apparently not unusual). Anyway, I eventually found the menu for the PDC computer, read the codes, and sure enough -- it told me exactly which parking sensor on my car had failed (front, center, right). I confirmed this by pulling the sensor, swapping it with one of the other front sensors, clearing the codes then putting the car in gear to trigger another error message. I was very pleased to see that my code reader was now correctly reporting that a different front parking sensor had failed (because I moved the bad one to that location). Now I just need to order a new sensor. Once that's replaced, this code reader will have paid for itself -- I don't even want to think about how much the BMW dealership would have charged for this simple job. So, I have only owned this unit for one day, but so far I am 100% happy with the results. ... show more

  • Excellent product at an attractive price.
Color: Red&Black Set name: MD906Pro
This unit is shipped labeled as the ALL SYSTEM diagnostic tool. It appears to cover all makes and models since 1996 and mine was loaded with the latest software version. It also includes the Autel Application CD, the OBD II connector and a USB cord to connect to your computer, and the manual. The whole thing comes in a nice hard plastic case. You can download the latest software version online and transfer it to your MD802 with the USB connector. The unit is powered by the USB cord @ 5V DC and by the OBD II connector @12V DC from the vehicle's electrical system. There is also a 3.5 mm plug in the side which will accept an adapter. You can get it on Ebay for about $6 but be sure the power supply is only 12V DC. It has a SD card in the opposite side that you can remove and put in your computer if you have a standard SD slot or USB adapter. Mine has a 8GB class 4 card but I believe it will accept up to 16GB class 10, however I don't know if that would provide much of an advantage. The software is compatible with all windows programs up to version 10. It is apparently not compatible with Mac IOS. The MD802 is easy to use and has so far worked with Ford, GM, and Toyota cars I tried it on. It is not bi-directional but will clear trouble codes easily. For the price (less than $200) it is well worth the money. I would definitely recommend it for the pro or the handy person who owns cars. ... show more

  • Great Scanner with active testing
Color: Black Set name: MP808S
I've been a mechanic for 13 years and this tool does a fantastic job at a DIY price point. This unit has active tests so you can shut off injectors, reset adaptive learning for most if not all modules, and many more. I would recommend users, who do no have professional training, to be careful about using the resetting and calibrating functions for modules or systems they are unfamiliar with. I almost bought the MK808 but I'm glad I went for the DS808 because the active testing ability makes it worth every penny for someone who works on vehicles often. The tool software is laid out fairly well and I learned to navigate it well within an hour. The quick read function is great and pulls up every code in the body, chassis, and drivetrain. It gives you a easy picture of the current issues with the entire vehicle. And when you click on the code it takes you to the appropriate modules to diagnosis it. Of course this tool does not compete with the dealer tools or other $2000+ tools for commercial shops.
