This is the 3rd scanner I purchased, and the only one I kept. First of all, I am a hobbyist, not a professional mechanic. I became interested in a scan tool for a couple of reasons. First, I have a 2025 Lexus IS500, and wanted to be able to interact with its many computers to have an understanding when problems arise. Second, I wanted to do ECU Coding, which lets you set "personalized settings" that are usually set at the dealership. The first 2 scanners were advertised as being able to do ECU Coding. After hours of trying to set my Lexus up, a deep dive into the manufacturers website told me they could only Code European vehicles. Well the D8S can do Asian vehicles and more. This tool found a soft code in the Lexus window computer, probably from when the windows were tinted, and found a stereo/amplifier soft code in my wife's Mazda. as for ECU Coding, I've shut off the driver and passenger seat belt buzzers, changed the auto folding mirrors to fold when the key is off (it used to do it only after I locked the doors). I changed the trunk unlock option on the key fob, and the door unlock function. Now all doors unlock with a press of the fob, rather than a double press. These alone would have cost hundreds from the dealership. There are many more functions I have left alone. I just can't say enough good about this tool. I am sure it will provide years of valuable information for repairs at home, or if I need to take it to a professional, I'll have data to provide them with. The customer support has been stellar as well. I was speaking with a rep over the Labor Day Weekend, and they got back to me several times over the holiday by email. Would Definitely Buy Again!

The D8S had been a great purchase for me. I am not a professional mechanic, but I do consider myself to be a very proficient hobbyist. I have used it to diagnose multiple wheel speed sensors, TPMS issues, and even recoding vin information on ECUs for several cars (2012 Honda Civic, 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis, 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2012 Honda Odyssey, 2005 VW Beetle.) The customer support from XTOOL has been fantastic. I had an issue with the tablet when I first purchased and it was replaced immediately. It comes in a very durable case that is padded very well. It connects to my 5g WiFi for fast updates (yes they do frequent updates to add more features). It is easy to connect to a standard 16 pin OBD II port. The graphing of the live data is very handy to troubleshoot intermittent sensor issues. It is awesome to be able to click whatever the trouble code is and use the integrated browser to research probable solutions to fix the car. It has been one of the best purchases I have made to increase my capability of troubleshooting automotive issues. If I could, I would give it 6 stars.

I was not impressed at first. It does have a bit of a learning curve for non- mechanics. But the success of this device is on a serious upward trend. I own four cars and on car #1 I isolated a bad ABS sensor to the correct wheel instead of “bad and sensor” on other models. Then programmed two spare keys when we only had one now we have three. On car number two I isolate a fuel issue. Reset the memory and saved THOUSANDS! (Bad fuel at a gas station). Pro. It does a LOT. It’s allows you to easily isolate faults, run test, view live data and program simple fixes like, tpms, spare keys, and so on. It’s on an android system allowing you to search the internet for help with the click of a button. Battery life is great. Cons The menus require a lot of learning. You have to drill down to really find stuff. Linking faults to the correct submenu would be helpful. There are several sub menus that deal with fuel. You have to leave one section to drill into another to find the solution. Just link them all under the topo menu. The device is slower on the processor side. Sometimes typing requires patience. The connection to the vehicle will not stay plugged in. The connector is way to loose. Not all vehicles are listed. A 2011 F250 with a diesel engine does not look like it’s available. Unless you skip F250 on the manual screen and choose F-Series (generic). Over all I would buy it again and recommend to family.
