This is a must have for any DIY that takes care of the family fleet or even just a couple of cars, small independent shops, or techs that need their own scan tool. This tool exceeded my expectations out of the box upon first test use and I’m still amazed by it that I hardly know where to start. I’ve been doing automotive diagnostics and repairs for nearly 6 years independently. 6 days a week at a used car dealership for over a year having access to an Apollo D9 and using a MaxiSys 808 as my daily go to. The D9 subscription expired after 6 months and I believe the truck owner told me it would be about $700 a month to maintain its full functionality which this ArtiDiag still out performs. The only times I’d even grab the D9 is when I neededed a very quick scan. Key on and then plugging the D9 in gave immediate vin read and quick scan reports. This TopDon actually keeps up with just a little longer VIN detect, but it’s right there. Way easier to turn on and boot up than the 808. When this tool goes into sleep mode, it hardly draws on the battery unlike the other tools that must be shut off completely and can take several minutes to boot up. This tool feels more rugged and durable too. The kickstand has no limits on the angle the tool is rested at. After every health report there’s options to send the report via email or it will generate a QR code that opens a beautiful report in your phone or tablets browser. If you then take a screenshot of that report you have an option to also save the exact location the scan and report were done in (iOS). No PC suite required with this scan tool. It has a camera in the back of the tool which you can capture and car details like license plate, leaks, previous damage, or obvious needs during inspection. It will take screen shots of any screen, annytine, and record simultaneous live data graphs with smooth throttle snap results. All this information and even non graphed or recorded live data information can be looked back into without the tool connected to a vehicle. If a diag takes you in an unexpected direction and you you didn’t look at 02 sensor data, or MAF sensor readings, you can go back into the scan history of any vehicle and see what those readings were hours or indefinitely after removing the tool from the vehicle. It has a section for seeing vehicle modules installed in the vehicle. The Apollo D9 and Autel would not let me scan 2018+ Chrysler (Stellantis) vehicles. With this tool there’s no getting locked out even if the subscription to updates expires. The Autel required a $450 yearly subscription for updates and still wouldn’t scan a 2018+ Chrysler, this tool was $400. If you use the provided or any other usb to c and plug it into a laptop or PC, file folders are already in place allowing image and video recordings in the tool to be viewed. I haven’t yet seen a scan report appear in any of the folders yet, but it’s not exactly needed there. The tool came with a 97% charge, took no longer than 5 minutes to do 35+ updates. The first scan did trigger a firmware update but that too only took about a minute to complete. I have a borescope and pico scope and now with this scan tool I’m feeling pretty well equipped. One last thing is there will easily be 360 or more PIDs that appear in Live Data ECU modules so going in knowing which you want to be looking at would be helpful lol, but that’s just cars these days. The Autel would show red numbers if a PID was out of parameters, I’m not yet sure if this tool does that or even shows what the PID parameters should be. I’m not really sure I ever diagnosed a vehicle based on red numbers tbh. Most certainly never condemned a part or system based on it. This tool really is bad a$$ and packs a heck of a punch to its competitors at its price point. UI is nice, clean, and crisp; and very easy to use and navigate. Screen is about 7” diagonal. Screen protectors available. This tool seems to be capable of everything up to needing OEM pass through.

Update: I've used it recently on a BMW (e90 LCI 335d) and the scanner offers a good number of coding/programming options - not as much as you can do with Bimmercode and definitely not NCS Expert but still very useful. And importantly and conveniently, you can code in a new battery type and register it easily. Edit: 10 month update. I still use this scanner regularly, and I've used it now on BMW and Mercedes Benz products and a couple Nissans. It's worked great for me doing everything I've asked it to do. It routinely gets updates to the various software bits for newer models or extra features for older stuff. Zero complaints so far, and it's paid for itself time and time again. I watch Pine Hallow Auto Diagnostics and a few other channels and I've known I could benefit from an auto scanner. There are a lot of brands and devices to choose from, and it's hard to determine what features are available on which at what price point. I'm a mostly DIY mechanic who works on a variety of cars for friends and family. I settled on the Topdon Artidiag Pro because the size and price combined with 2 years of free updates seemed worth it to me. It was the right choice for me and it's more than paid for the price of the scanner with the tasks it has enabled me to perform already, and I've only had it a few weeks! Pros: So far, it's done everything I've asked it to do *and more*. I needed it to complete a Steering Angle Reset on a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe, which it did very easily. A stealership had replaced the clockspring under a recall but did not plug in the new clock spring, causing me new SRS and stability control DTCs to appear. They wanted money to fix the issue - THAT THEY CREATED! - so I said enough is enough, and I bought the Topdon. It helped me confirm that the steering wheel sensor was functional BEFORE I performed the steering angle reset by viewing the live data that the wheel sensor was putting out. It had simply lost its calibration due to the car being operated without the clockspring plugged in. It then let me clear the SRS and ESC DTCs upon completion of the "repair." Being able to read all the codes and ensure work has been completed successfully is great - the Health Scan feature allows you to save a diagnostic, pre-repair, and post-repair report to share with your customer, and they are time stamped as evidence of the codes being cleared / no new codes. Very helpful! The Santa Fe also had TPMS issues that the Artidiag Pro helped me troubleshoot - it was able to show me the live data on the sensor locations, temperature, pressure readings, and IMPORTANTLY, their learned status / progress. This was key, along with a Hyundia/Kia TSB, in determining than the TPMS Module itself was bad. To replace that requires encoding the vehicle VIN and model into the new module - which I thought I would need dealer-specific software to complete. The Topdon Artidiag Pro has this capability in its Special Function, which was amazing! I encoded the data myself, encoded the sensors back into the new module, and the car has a working TPMS system for the first time in 8 years. This work alone saved me far, far more than the price of the tool vs paying a stealership to do it. I was also able to use the tool to program a remote keyfob for the same car and send the customer home with 2 remotes instead of none. I was able to enable a feature that auto-locked the doors once the vehicle reached 20kph, as well, something the customer very much appreciated. I've used the scanner now on several Hondas, two Toyotas, and a Ford and a Chevy and it's worked great in all of them, from 2002 through 2018 model years. You can also use the tool to read generic ODB II live data, and I was able to use it to properly diagnose and confirm the fix on a Bank 1 Rich code on a Honda Odyssey. It's amazing to see your long term fuel trims adjust in real time once the issue is resolved, and you can save both of those before/after reports/recordings to share with the customer as confirmation that the fix really DID fix the issue. I used it to confirm a dead o2 sensor on a different 2007 Sante Fe and NOT the bad catalytic converter their mechanic told them. You can pull up and display a load of PIDs, and once you know what they mean, it's easy to connect the dots correctly. One O2 sensor later and their issue was fixed as well. I finally resolved a long-standing SRS light on a friend's Acura TL (seatbelt sensor needed cleaning). Stealership had told him it would be $400 for them to diagnose and correct it. I did it with a few sprays of electrical contact cleaner, because Topdon let me read the code. A Toyota Camry I was in recently had the 'BRAKE' light on the dash. I had a feeling I knew what the issue was (low brake fluid in the reservoir) but with the Topdon Artidiag Pro, I was able to quickly pull up the PID for the parking brake to ensure it was showing as OFF - this confirmed that there was nothing wrong with any parking brake sensor, and after topping off the brake fluid, the light went away as expected. It seems like a small thing but the ability to solidify a diagnosis in seconds is SOOO handy! The screen size is large enough to display multiple sensors/PIDs as well as a good sized graph view, so I don't feel I am missing out vs models with 10-12 inch displays. It's a convenient, portable size. The home page has an "updates" tab which displays a small indicator of when new updates are available. When I first booted it up, it had a load of updates to do to get it current. Since I've had it, Topdon has pushed out another dozen or so updates for different makes of vehicles. It's clear they are continuously improving and supporting their software, which is really great to see. Cons: These aren't really negatives but just things to be aware about: This is not bluetooth so you do have to be tethered to the DLC port while using the scanner. For me it's not yet been an issue and the cable is very long so you can move the scanner through the window if needed, easily. If you MUST have this, then Topdon has several models which cost more that give you this feature. The VIN auto-detect, I have found, is very slow on some cars. I'm not sure why. I simply disabled the auto-detect on connection at the DLC, and instead I select the make of the car before it scans the VIN, which is then VERY fast. Again, NOT a complaint, just a process to be aware of when using the scanner. It requires two extra screen taps but the VIN detect is then so much faster, that it's definitely faster to do it this way. If you work on your own cars, you owe it to yourself to get a better scanner than just basic ODB II p codes. Topdon has a great product in their Artidiag Pro with loads of features at a great price, and I know from experience that it'll pay for itself in no time.

If you are a professional, weekend warrior, or neighborhood DIY guy, this tool is a must! I have used a variety of tools over the course of my time as an automotive technician, so sad I slept on using Topdon. The build quality is very nice, much more durable and thick than many comparable Autel, Foxwell, and Mucar scanners in this price range. Nothing feels cheap, hollow, or delicate. The display is bright and colorful, not hard to see or easily scratchable. This diagnostic tool offers many more functions, commands, maintenance functions, and features than most Autel scanners in the $400 to $600 range. This tool does require a subscription annually ($150) after the included two year window of free updates. Foxwell, which advertises free updates for life, is not as in depth. Some other brands advertise ECU coding but fail to mention that it is limited to certain makes, models and years. This tool offers such functions right out of the box and are super easy to find. This device also offers remote functions from a PC device and generates a PDF report. If you want to get into more serious ECU coding and programming, this scan tool is compatible with Topdon's JPass dongle. This opens the door to manufacturer coding and software, built in. It's quite impressive, especially given the price point. The people in the review section complaining are not being honest, or they lack professional experience. Anyone who has performed true ECU coding would know exactly how to access such functions and execute them on this device. That leads me to the next pro for this device: data accuracy. Many less expensive diagnostic tools throw data at you, but not in an accurate manner. All too often, ones pull DTCs that are way off or false. The generated reports can show them as pending and not clarify if stored (past). This can lead to false diagnoses. At boot-up, the device automatically pulls your VIN and performs an accurate health check, highlighting immediate irregularities. This is done in a fast, snappy manner. It took mere minutes to pull the initial check, so lag or sluggishness communicating with the ECU. Keep in mind that the 4gigs of RAM makes an incredible difference when compared to half that in older, less expensive units. All in all, don't sleep on this tool. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I purchased this scanner for my dealership to do more diagnosis in-house. First impressions are that the unit is very high quality and easy to use. The hard case and interior foam compartments are very well done. It was easy to connect to wifi for the first time and download available updates. A listing of vehicles I have tested it on so far: 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4.0: would not auto recognize the VIN so I had to manually enter it. I was able to use bi-directional controls to command an EVAP component and the cooling fan. 2010 Ford Expedition 5.4: Auto VIN recognition worked and it was able to access all modules including air suspension codes and audio/entertainment system 2009 Chrysler Sebring Convertible: Auto VIN recognition worked and it was able to access modules for airbags and BCM. Unfortunately, I was unable to access bi-directional controls for the convertible top, which is what I was primarily interested in. It could access the module and identify the trouble codes related to the top, but did offer the option to use bi-directional control 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt: accessed all modules and performed oil life reset. 2006 Ford F-250 5.4: accessed all modules and commanded RPM and intake runner activation 2006 Ford F-450 6.0 Diesel: accessed all modules and commanded VGT turbo vane activation and RPM Overall, it seems to be able to access most modules across the brands and vehicles I have tested. I’ll edit this review as I scan more GM vehicles. My primary complaint is the inability to command convertible top operation on the Chrysler and the emissions readiness test indication is not clear. I have other scanners that will simply provide a green light if the vehicle will pass emissions, although this may be more related to my inexperience with the unit. I’ll give it a 4.5 out of 5.

My husband is a mechanic and absolutely loves this TOPDON ArtiDiag Pro. He uses it all the time and says it’s one of the most useful tools he has. It’s easy to use, works quickly, and gives detailed diagnostic information that helps save time when figuring out problems. The bidirectional functions and all-system scanning make it much more advanced than a basic code reader. It’s great for checking different vehicle systems, running tests, and handling a wide variety of repairs. The screen is clear, responsive, and the tool feels high quality and durable. For $400 I expected a lot more. Here are the issues I've had since this arrived an hour ago: 1. This thing cannot talk to a modern 5Ghz wifi connection. Nowhere in the product description, nor in any of the documentation is this limitation called out. I had to figure this out myself where they admit that they cannot connect to "Modern Wifi": "The scanner only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks and WPA2 encryption. It cannot connect to modern 5GHz bands or routers using newer WPA3 security". This is simply not acceptable 2. When I tried to reach support at 2:45 PDT, they had left for the day even though they are supposed to be available until 3 PM. 3. After setting up an antiquated 2.4 GHz port, the recommended update process was SLOW and required manual intervention Back it goes

I’m a DIYer and bought this mainly for myself and my immediate family, but it’s already proven useful beyond that. After getting it, I updated it right away and the process was simple and straightforward. The user interface is clean, easy to navigate, and doesn’t feel overwhelming even with how many features this tool has. This scanner does have a subscription, but it includes two years free, which is more than enough time to get serious value out of it. Considering that many mechanics charge around $200 just for a diagnostic, this tool realistically pays for itself after only one or two uses. After that, you’re basically in the profit every time you use it. What really sold me is how versatile it is. I can use it on my own vehicles, help family members diagnose issues, and even assist friends, coworkers, or someone who’s broken down and needs quick answers. It goes far beyond basic code reading and gives real, usable information that helps you decide what’s safe to drive and what needs attention. I spent a lot of time researching scanners before buying this, including looking at Autel and several other brands. For the price range, this one stood out as the best balance of capability, features, and usability. It feels powerful without being locked behind expensive professional-only tools. One thing worth noting is that this model charges via USB. Some older reviews mention a different charging style, but that’s no longer the case. USB charging makes it much more convenient and modern. Overall, this is a solid investment for anyone who works on their own vehicles or wants a capable diagnostic tool without paying shop prices. If you use it even a couple of times, it more than justifies the cost. Highly recommended for DIYers.

Just purchased this as my needs grew as a DIY Mechanic. I have an ArtiDiag 600, which works great but doesn’t have the "Bi-Directional Control" option I need to turn on and off an EVAP vent valve. I have watched MANY YouTube videos to learn about different scantool vendors and about the Bi-Directional controls that true scantools offer that would allow me to manage and control certain valves and solenoids for testing purposes. I needed to control the EVAP Vent Valve to run a smoke test to try and find a leak to help fix it to clear the DTC P0456 Check Engine light. I spent a lot of time figuring out which vendor/device to buy, Autel, ThinkCar, xTool, Lauch, iCarsoft, etc., which I could afford as these scantools can be VERY expensive. One of the things that I read about most is the terrible Customer Support from most of the vendors I mentioned above; they either offer poor or no response, poor results, or even no help at all. I decided to call Topdon Support to test them to see if they could answer this question: Which is the minimum device that I could buy that can give me full Bi-Directional Controls? The support rep was very friendly and asked me a few questions to find out exactly what I needed and how I would use the device; he mentioned that the ArtiDiag Pro was all I would need, nothing more. I then asked him if the more expensive Topdon Professional Scantools would perform better bi-directional features; his answer was no; he said you either have Bi-Directional options or not, and there isn’t a “better version” of it if you buy the more expensive tool. He mentioned that based on my budget and what I needed to accomplish, the ArtiDiag Pro was all the power I needed since I wasn’t a full-time real mechanic in a shop. The rep also told me that the unit comes with 2 years of free updates; after 2 years, it costs $249 per year, and that ArtiDiag Pro comes with 2 years of warranty with email tech support AND phone tech support from 9-6 (EST) Mon-Fri. So based on that phone call, I knew I would be purchasing the ArtiDiag Pro hands down; I found it here on Amazon‘s TT Topdon Store for a GREAT price! I have received delivery and have tested to see if, in fact, it does control the vent valve; after some time trying to figure out where this option was, I can happily report that this model does control the vent valve, and from what I saw many other options that I was not aware of. I am thrilled that I found a top-notch device for my price range from Topdon and spent my money on a fabulous mid-range scantool that does what I need it to do. Thank you, Topdon and the support rep who gave me an honest suggestion based on my needs and budget.
