Should I Buy It?

If you require a robust and capable scan tool for a professional garage with a variety of vehicle brands and do not frequently work with newer FCA models requiring AUTO AUTH, the Topdon Phoenix Plus seems to be a highly recommended option. However, if module programming or specific newer vehicle diagnostics are crucial for your use, you may want to consider additional research or a different product that fully meets those needs.

  • Great scanner
To start with I have been turning wrenches since 91. I have used Snap On scanners, AutoEnginuity for diagnostics in the past. I used an Autel at work a few weeks ago, so I figured it was time to buy an up to date scanner. I already had the Topdon battery tester, charger and jumper. All wored great so I gave the Phoenix Plus a shot. Came within 2 days, hooked up to the internet and had 84 updates. Updates took maybe 5 minutes. This scanner is fast. I have used it on My jeep and Hellcat along with an older Ford 6.0 diesel and a Mitsubishi Raider. It connects fast and I have not had any issues with it. I would recommend this over the snap on line of scanners. ... show more

  • Fast communication
I purchased this scanner last week and its been great, it is really fast and connects with the cars in no time, it has a lot of features that makes my job really easy, the internet connectivity its great because I can navigate to internet in no time, and search for answers and tips to resolve the problems of the cars that I got in my shop. Compare to other brands this scanner does the job with a really affodable price. ... show more

  • Clear Winner
After doing many comparisons, I decided on the Topdon Phoenix Plus. I have other auto scanners but they seem to be lacking in certain areas. This scanner excels in two areas. Having topology at this price point is a game changer, and unlike some other units this one is very quick. even the updates were really fast. Time will tell how it handles different car brands but so far, I havenโ€™t had a single problem. I can also say the size and feel of the unit are perfect, it feels very sturdy and is the perfect size as far as usability. As for Topdon as a company, I have other Topdon equipment and am happy with all of it. Features, speed, build quality, all first rate. ... show more

  • Solid profesional tool but lacking some features
So far itโ€™s been awesome .. Iโ€™ve been forcing myself to use it on every car as my go to scan tool to get used to it and almost every time Iโ€™m able to do what I need . Active tests are great, data stream readings and graphing is smooth and fast , simple maintenance resets on all makes and models is easy and enjoyable . Easy to use and the topology features is awesome ..have been able to get into every module in pretty much every vehicle .. biggest draw back for me is that AUTO AUTH is currently unavailable for the this scan tool.. I work on all makes and models and I get newe herb dodge and Chrysler with the secure gateway .. and I have to go back to my other scan tools to get in and do what I need to do.. both TOPDON support AND AUTO AUTH customer service say theyโ€™re waiting on info from each other .. so looks like it should be compatible but kno one knows when. Over all great tool and if/when auto AUTH gets going it will make it that much better . ... show more

  • Excellent, for what it is.
First, study up on scan tools. Know what they are, and what they are not. This was bought on Amazon, I immediately registered my unit with AutoAuth, which Amazon Autels won't do. So that was a relief. So setup was fairly fast and simple. If you're working on any 2017+ Fiat/Chrysler stuff, buy an Autel from a real dealer (not Walmart or Amazon, I suggest aeswave) or buy a Topdon (again, I bought my unit on here, after talking to topdon about the whole AutoAuth thing with autel.) I got this unit for $962(real short sale, like a 24hr offer) I wish they would update to a newer version of Android, and allow Play Store. But for Android 10, it's plenty fast enough. I chose this over the Phoenix 2 mainly for it's screen size, ram and processor, essentially the only differences. The Phoenix 2 isn't explicitly listed on AutoAuths site either, but they have an "others" sub catagory in the models. So maybe it can be registered, I don't know 100%. Sellers will tell you whatever you need to hear to sell units, so I'm trying to offer my knowledge on this... I'd choose the Plus vs the Phoenix 2 again, as the screen alone is needed if you look at much in the wiring diagrams online. This is NOT designed to do module programming on USA models, there is no passthrough vci. It's a VERY capable and very quality built device, but it's not the "one device does everything" solution. For most of us, it's plenty. Passthrough vci alone is like $1500, and requires subscription to dealer services for software, and a bunch more stuff. This is NOT the tool for programming USA models. Again, research will help you understand this... Research research research. Briank100 on YouTube does reviews, actually good comprehensive ones for an old duffer, he does a bunch of different ones. I avoided Launch, due to not knowing what special functions were free and ones you had to pay for... Autel has no USA warranty or supported by AutoAuth unless you buy from a USA dealer. Xtool makes nice units, but again, no AutoAuth, requires a bypass cable for FCA. Same with Foxwell (I own a bt809ts). Foxwells are ok, built nice, old Android firmware though. The ads say they support AutoAuth, they don't. You have to use a gateway bypass cable. (Tearing the dash apart to find to begin with) The renewal is $549/yr for the Phoenix Plusafter your first 2 years. OVERALL, good unit. Probably overpriced like the others. Free 2 years of updates. Probably buy a new one after 2 years. 2 years of updates will buy a new unit alone, so.... Buy one. I think you'll be happily surprised. ... show more

  • TOPDON PHOENIX PLUS GOOD PRODUCT
I bought a TOPDON Phoenix plus. It was boxed very well. It is an above average scanner. There is only one thing I do not like is that there needs to be an adjustment feature for the brightness of the screen display. tech support seems to be good. They reached out to me in about 24 hours and said they were there if I had any issues. ... show more
