We have 10 laying hens and the size is large enough for them. We have a raccoon problem so bought welded wire to cover the frame and did not use the chicken wire. It didn’t seem like it would keep the raccoons out. We also put in a concrete floor and anchored the frame to the concrete. This keep the raccoons from digging under the cage and makes for easy cleaning. We then put in a couple inches of straw down on the floor. We can release the chickens to the yard during the day and they always go back into the cage before dark. So far it’s been working! We haven’t lost a single chicken to those troublesome raccoons! The frame is very easy to assemble. It takes a bit of time to put the wire on. I put the latch system on the door, rather than on the frame as I read one review that said it could scratch your arm when walking in and out of the door. I also read that the tarp system sags with rain or snow collecting on it, so I cut a board to put across the top of the metal frame to fit under the tarp for support. For extra protection one could add the extra wire a foot or so below and scooping out below the level of the ground so that if a coyote or fox tries to dig down next to the frame, they hit the wire and are hopefully discouraged. I am only using the run from my chickens during the day and during growing season to keep the chickens out of my gardens. I am very pleased with the run and with all the reviews that I read prior to purchasing. Mine came in three boxes and all were very heavy. I moved them to the back yard with a dolly. ... show more

Very happy with this setup. The frame was EXTREMELY quick and easy, a one-person job. The wire, however, is far more time-consuming. My advice - get thick, high-strength zip-ties and don’t bother with the little white ones they provide, which I imagine are intended for temporary use, as prep for the provided baling wire, which I did use initially, cutting pieces and tying the fencing down every few inches or so, but that would’ve taken days and done a number on my fingers. Trust me - use the thick industrial zip-ties. They’re much faster and will last longer than your desire to raise chickens. As for quantity of chicken wire, I finished the job with plenty to spare, a one-person job, though another set of hands would’ve been a little easier for rolling the wire over the top of the cage. Took a week to install, have to drape and secure all the wire netting yourself. Netting is not precut, comes on a giant roll. Need gloves to work with the wire. Used a larger tarp than the one included to keep run dry and protected from wind. Plenty extra wire netting included to bury for protection. Water pools on the roof bc it is flat. Would buy again, just wish the netting came pre assembled to the posts. Would be willing to pay more for a partially assembled product. ... show more

We bought this specific run because it came with the coated pvc which seems more predator proof. We live in a very high raccoon area so we went extra steps to raccoon proof this run. We bought extra pvc coated chicken wire (same as what came with this) to put on the ground, and wrapped it up the walls to secure. There was also about a 2” gap where the door closes, so even though a raccoon probably couldn’t fit through it, to be safe we secured thin wood strips to narrow the gap. This run is great, we’re very happy with the quality and value. I know I’ll feel safe with my chickens in it. ... show more
