  • Spectacular Product!
Size: Quart
Absolutely LOVE this product! Been searching for a non-toxic, plant-based, long-lasting stain forever, and thrilled to have found this one. Does it have a very strong sweet wine smell? Yes, but it dissipates in a couple days. I wore a heavy duty mask while applying, which helped a lot. It’s also very pricey, which keeps me from buying enough to do my fence, but for a smallish project like a raised bed, it’s worth it. Looks great on untreated wood, goes on so smoothly (just be sure there is zero dirt anywhere!), and dries to perfection. Rain beads off it after it dries. Very impressed. ... show more

  • Excellent Product, plant-based, food-safe, and perfect for vegetable beds
Size: Gallon
I'm rebuilding my raised beds using Douglas Fir because redwood costs were prohibitive. By simply painting on two coats of this sealer, I think I doubled the life of the raised beds. I live in a dry climate, but the vegetables get regular water. Raw wood would have last three to five years, but after sealing them, I believe they will last seven to ten years if not longer. I had no problem with stickiness even though I was generous with the sealer. It was a quick easy job and so worth the money. Plus, the boards look much better! Great food-safe sealer! ... show more

  • Easiest sealer to use! Kudos to the inventor.
Size: Quart
The odor is slightly fruity and not at all offensive. I applied the sealer to eucalyptus wood porch chairs and tables. The sealer went on like water-a little goes a long way. Per the instructions, I wiped after 5 minutes and allowed it to dry for a little over an hour. The wood looks brand new, which is saying something since it is about 20 years old. Cleanup was a breeze with soap and water. I'd highly recommend this product to anyone looking to seal wood. The fact that it's plant based and eco-friendly is an added bonus. Back on the covered, screened porch it went. Blown-in rain is no longer a concern. ... show more

  • Good, but room for improvement.
Size: Quart
I bought a quart of this stuff to seal a trio of new medium-large cedar planter boxes (I'm not planting directly in them, but growing large plants within grow pots, so it's not quite as exposed to moisture as a raised bed would be). It's too soon to tell how well it holds up to the elements, but overall the application was smooth and the finish came out quite nice. I didn't add any tint, so it really just highlights the grain of the wood a bit and gives it a more polished look. I did two coats and ended up with a few ounces of the product left over. Application was easy. If you've ever used Rubio Monocoat it's pretty similar to that. I wiped up the excess after each coat, as directed, and didn't have any stickiness once it was dry. I took off one star for a couple of reasons. 1. The scent. Other folks had mentioned in their reviews that it's got a very strong smell. What I didn't realize is that the smell is, almost certainly, an additive. It's vaguely tropical, but also smells very artificial, like a gas station piña colada air freshener. I wouldn't call it offensive, exactly, but I really wish it wasn't in there. I'm guessing the main ingredient of this product is linseed oil or another drying oil, and I find their natural odors much more appealing than this. It's cloying, and a tiny bit of it on clothing will stink up a room. The boxes are now outside in the fresh air, a few days later, and they still stink like the bargain bin of a Bath and Body Works. 2. There's a lot of marketing copy hyping this product, but none of it seems to include a meaningful description of the actual ingredients. Maybe there's an SDS somewhere, but I dislike that the manufacturer seems to be hiding the ball as to what's in it. Different finishes work differently, as anyone who's ever finished wood knows, and having more info prior to application would be a sign of respect for the customer, in my opinion. It'd also better tell me if what I'm buying is actually a good deal. Despite the above, I took a chance on this stuff because it seemed well reviewed, was competitively priced, and touted as low VOC nontoxic. I'm happy with the results, but I can't say I'd be terribly inspired to buy it again unless the manufacturer addressed the above concerns. ... show more

  • Nice sealant Nice sealant
Size: Quart
I used this to stain my wood for my vertical container garden. It went on very smoothly and added a nice color to the wood. It dried quickly and has a pleasant smell. I cant speak to its longevity yet, but I am hopeful it will extend the life of my wood.

  • Trust me, don't buy this.
Size: Half Gallon
I'd give this 0 stars if I could. Not only is the smell absolutely pungent like a trash bin full of fruit on a 90-degree day, but the 4 expensive cedar garden beds I just put this on are not even water-resistant. There is absolutely no difference between what has been stained and what has not when wet EXCEPT the god-awful smell that will not go away. These are sitting outside, I've sprayed them down with water, wiped them down with a towel, and let them sit in the wind and even still if I just briefly touch it, my hands smell like this sealer. So does my sweater from touching it for less than a minute. I'm honestly doubting if I should even plant vegetables in these beds anymore. I rarely leave reviews, but I feel so duped by this. If you're using cedar and want something non-toxic, just don't even stain it. Major regrets. ... show more

  • Works well on rough cedar pergola
Size: Gallon
Love this stuff! Built a pergola about a year ago out of cedar and meant to stain/seal it but never got around to it. Bought the Garden Box Sealer and have been using it and it has really made the cedar look great!
