I have a massive collection of USB 2.0 drives, but almost all of my USB 3.0 flash drives are of the extremely high capacity variety (128GB+). Paradoxically, that makes the USB 3.0 drives I have not all that suitable for some of the small tasks I need to do. I figured that I would find some cheap 16 or 32GB drives to use as bootable devices. A little searching brought me to the KOOTION 5 X 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drives. It's been my experience that you never know what you're going to get when you move away from name-brand flash drives. Historically, I've typically stuck to a small grouping of major manufacturers. In this case, I was willing to try off brands. The main thing to worry about is performance. Some manufacturers straight up lie about what interface the flash drive has. Some publish bogus performance statistics. With the KOOTION drives, I was able to verify that the interface in use is indeed USB 3.0. Better still, I measured decent performance from the drive! When I tout good performance, it's good to be realistic about what you're going to get for less than $5, per drive. This is not going to be a device that maxes out the USB 3.0 interface. The KOONTIONs do manage a maximum STR of ~125MB/s, in reads. They manage 50-75MB/s in reads, too. While there are certainly better performing flash drives, I've never seen a CHEAP USB 3.0 drive that manages anything like the write rate on these flash drives. So... blazing fast? No. Quick enough? Yes. With the aluminum, swinging KOOTION drives look an awful lot like freebie flash drives from 2006, so there is some dissonance when dealing with the performance. Boy do these things make me feel old. At my first job as a computer programmer in the mid-1980, we had a whole computer room with 17 big disk drives. Each drive was about 3 ft by 3 ft by 4 ft high and could hold a whopping 1 GB EACH - wow. Each drive also cost a fortune and had to have a large air conditioner to keep the room cool. Today, for $25 I can buy almost 10 times the amount of storage that used to cost a million. ... show more

These are sold as 16 GB. They are not. They are 4 GB formatted as 16 GB. When you put in the computer they report aas 16 GB because the FAT is doctored. If try to save more than 4 GB you will get an error that the disk is full. This is a common fraud being run on USB flash drives on Amazon right now. ... show more

Tried the 5 pack: Tested each device on two different PC's using the USB2 and USB3 ports. Two refuse to finish powering up and mount, they just have the led on the end blinking fast. Each of the other three would eventually complete power up but they took a loooong time. I tried simple file copies to two of them, the copy would get to 100% then lock up. Forgive me for not bothering to finish testing the fifth device, that is the vendors job before selling such junk. I was just hoping to be able to save a buck or two per device. Nope. ... show more

Arrived as described, well packaged. I actually was able to cut the packing to send one to another office via U.S. mail with no problems. (Despite extra packaging, several CDs sent via the same route arrive at their destination cracked or otherwise damaged.) I prefer electronic media when I'm sending large quantities of documents because, well, sending a flash drive costs far less than sending a ream of paper via shipping carriers or courier.) We've had no problems with them. I am very happy with the color coding and am going to snag one for sharable office documents to ensure that the right thumb drive makes it back to my desk. Be careful, these are not stable and it took nearly 8 hours to wipe them before I could return them. Consider that; if you buy a cheap flash drive and it eats your file, you're sending that data to the vendor to return the product. These are AWFUL. SLOW.     • Unrealiable junk
I bought a pack of these (4 GB) to use as bootable drives for Linux iso's, so I wasn't looking for anything special in terms of speed and I was never in danger of losing data, but these drives are unreliable and all of the drives lasted less than a year. The first one died within a couple months, then each followed in quick succession. Basically, waste of money, I suggest looking elsewhere. I've had a good experience with an EASTFUN pack of drives, if you need something cheap, otherwise, for actual data storage or a portable o/s, I use more reliable brands like Samsung, Kingston or Sandisk (which also has cheap drives if you don't need speed). IMO, memory is so cheap these days, I don't think you should skimp on a few bucks if you care about your data. ... show more

I bought these items to transfer home videos and they did not work for me. They took a very long time to transfer and then when it finally does transfer the video skips and does not play smoothly. However, I did transfer documents/files and it does transfer those with no issues. The transfer process was quick and opening the files was no issue. Keep in mind that one died on me and now is not recognizable when I connect it to the computer. In conclusion, if you just need this for files/docs (did not test pictures) let's say for school or work, you'll be fine. For videos, find something else. ... show more
