Arrived promptly and in good shape. However, when I took the sticky labels off the lid and front it left a shadow of the stickers that does not match the finish. It is not glue and does not feel sticky. Totally smooth. I called Kohler customer support and was told to try something oily. Tried cooking oil with no success. Called Kohler again and was told that if the finish didn't match they would need to do a return. So, I tried alcohol, windex, stainless cleaner and all purpose cleaner with no success. Really disappointed with Kohler for ruining a great trash can with cheap stickers. I'm returning it today

I hesitated to give this trash can a 5 Star rating solely because of the price. BUT, this is a classic instance of, “you get what you pay for.” Highlights of this can are: -No specialty can liners/bags, it uses a standard 13 gallon trash bag. The simple human trash can is significantly cheaper but their “liners” are $25 for 100. That will add up quick. -The lid doesn’t hit the wall when it opens -Very sturdy construction -10 year warranty -fingerprintless stainless steel.

Although it looks as advertised and sits flat against the wall, there is a serious design flaw that for us was a deal breaker. When you step on the pedal to open the lid, it causes the rim to jump, which then makes a loud clanging noise as it falls back down. Even though the lid itself closes slowly and silently, it is all for naught considering the rim jumps and loudly crashes down every time. Definitely not a design flaw that should be tolerated on such an expensive trash can. Also the phone number Kohler provides for product support on amazon and on their website does not work. I called many times during their listed hours and every time I got a recording that says the number is not in operation.

We’ve had this trash can for a while now. The finish still looks brand new. We purchased the white which had no issues with stickers not coming off easily, and it doesn’t show finger prints except on the stainless steel top, but that’s both easy to avoid when changing the liner and it’s easy to wipe clean with a cloth or some toilet paper. I love how it hides the grocery bag liners. Overall, very sleek, smart design. I like to give it a good bucket wash now and then; it’s so easy to clean without many nooks and crannies to deal with. I love the silent closure. It’s fast enough to feel quick and efficient and slow enough to throw in whatever you need to before it shuts. (I’ve had both before: closes too fast where the lid ends up blocking the tissue and too slow where it’s annoying like gross, close already). The best part of this particular can (the thin 2.5 gallon) is that it fits between the toilet and the wall in our small bathroom. There are no cons to list! I love this little guy. The color looks a bit green in the photo, not sure why except that the matte finish is reading differently than the polish on the toilet. IRL the color matches the white toilet and wall perfectly.

The quality of this product is there, Kohler makes good quality products, I'm happy with all of their products. Capacity is pretty accurate we have always used 13 gallons trashcan in our kitchen but the design on this one is not as restrictive, we use the same bags on this one and they fit very nicely. The step lever is sturdy and feels pretty solid, the plastic insert is heavy duty and fits perfectly inside the trashcan. If I were to improve this product the only thing would be in some kind of trash bag retention system. The trash bags fit well but the top slips in if you dispose of something heavy, I ended up ordering some trash bag rubber bands to hold them tight. Overall I would recommend this product, even though reviews were all over the place in my opinion is worth the money, I'm pretty picky and pay attention to detail in everything I do, sellers need to make sure is well packed the main reason for returns are the dents. This is not a paid review.

Third update 6/22/20: My third replacement trashcan broke today. Same place. That little plastic piece on the bottom simply cannot stand up to repeated pressure & tension after repeated (normal & gentle) use of the foot pedal. I contacted Kohler and they are sending out my fourth trashcan. Again, I asked if Kohler is aware of this problem and asked if anything had been done to fix the issue. The chat person helping me said they had not done anything but requested additional photos (this is the third time I have sent photos) and said she would forward them to the engineering department. I have no idea if this will make any difference, but I have to think that repeatedly asking them to honor their 10 year warranty and put up with waiting on new trashcans every few months has a better chance of alerting Kohler engineers to a problem than just giving up and switching to a different brand. *shrug* Tips for new buyers: make sure you register your purchase with Kohler so you can get replacements when the little plastic piece on the bottom fails. They are very good about shipping out replacements promptly. Take photos of the break and make noise. Maybe if more people are complaining, they will eventually get this issue fixed. Second update: The replacement trashcan broke after a little over a month. Kohler promptly sent out another, but when I asked if there were any plans to fix the weak plastic part that breaks on the bottom, they didn't answer. These are guaranteed for ten years if you register your product, so I guess I'll just get a new trashcan every 1 - 2 months? Seems like such a hassle and waste as I don't know what to do with the broken bins. Hopefully they are working on this weak point. Update: I contacted Kohler directly about the broken foot pedal and they sent me a whole new trashcan right away. I'm leaving off one star because the new trashcan has the same plastic part on the bottom that looks like it could break easily, so we'll see how this one holds up. The good news is, these have a ten year warranty if you register your purchase with the company. So far my experience with Kohler has been absolutely stellar. Original review: I love this trashcan. I was ready to spend more on the Simply Human kind, but was drawn to this one after a ton of research because it accepts regular trash bags, but still conceals them. Mine arrived without any dents and looks great in my kitchen. I loved the hands-free opening mechanism and the soft close. I lovingly wiped it down every night with stainless steel spray and a microfiber cloth after my nightly kitchen clean up. After two months and one week of reasonable, light use, the foot pedal mechanism stopped working. It would only open part way if I pressed one side of the pedal, and not at all if I pressed the other side. I removed the trash bin inside to see if I could tell what was wrong. When nothing seemed amiss, I carefully flipped the can over and found the broken piece beneath. A little bit of plastic has broken right off, allowing a metal rod to pop through. This molded bit of plastic appears to keep the rod in place and allow the foot pedal to function. Once it's broken, the lid will no longer open and close properly. I'm extremely disappointed. I've written Kohler to see what their response might be. I will update this review favorably if they send a replacement part or a new trashcan. I hope they have fixed this weak point in the design, because otherwise, the trash can is absolutely wonderful.
