When you have some trash in your hand you just pass it over the top of the can and like magic it opens and then closes by itself. It is so convenient. I love it! What a marvelous invention! I never bothered to put the battery in. I just got it to prevent cats from getting inside. The cats are unable to open it so that's all I really needed. I recommend it!

I bought this to replace what I thought was the identical trash can. And while it does look identical, it's not. The lid is temperamental, and the on/off switch on the back is so sensitive that I accidentally turn it off at least once a day just by it touching the wall. There are so many listing for this trash can, but they all claim different manufacturers, so I have no idea. But, all that being said... it is still a lovely trash can, especially if you insist on having a motion sensor lid, like me.

It is not good at all. In fact all of these styles from other srller too are all trash. Did nott ever have to spend so much on these items in my life. Thus one started to leak from bottom last year so now is used only paper or lint for laundry. I am tired of purchasing trash cans not built well at all I am not on the stainless steal I bought last year.....sane problems with battery mechanism and tonight found liquids all over kitch and paid more then this one(62.00!) there are all poor quality at to much of a cost. How this can happen 4 to 5 times to me is nothing I can understand. Never should need a warranty for trash when offered one. No room in this rental for thr real dancy ones for estate home, not my style nor in my budget. Going back to the regular kind with no batteries needed as they cost a fortune to and rediculous to need gor trash cans. Companies should supply lifetime batteries for consumers who buy and like product that never leaks. I believe it is the bottom not designed well with as not one solid piece, just a little addon for looks. Think about the product going into it who cars about mixing white trash can with black bottom or whatever color they all are horrible. If is was all one piece at bottom I would have first one from 2016 bought for 75.00. Its so unfair and not spending another 60+ for 6th one. Yo many pieces and batteries for holding bunch of garbage. Going back in time to make my life easier and no more of these designs for me. My mom had a plastic all one piece lasted for years. These are made for looks for user friendly to me. Trash cans costing way to much. I do not need it as a focal point in my kitchen, rather be less noticed. No more time to "waste" on trash can that causes more "Waste". Things not made like years ago that is fir sure!!!!

This was my first time buying a garbage can with the motion detection feature and it's actually pretty cool. First off, I was going from a tall cylindrical garbage can to this item which is shorter, wider, and rectangular which is definitely a plus as it's much easier to dump in garbage from smaller cans that I have in the bathroom and bedroom. The motion detection feature isn't as sensitive as I've seen from other reviewers who complained that the can opened every time they walked by it. I have a small kitchen and I'm literally in front of it when standing working on the counter and the can does not open. I actually have to wave my hand in close proximity to get it to open. Since this is not a step activated can, it doesn't have the hinge that my old can had and was scratching my refrigerator and the lid doesn't hit the wall or refrigerator like my old can did. My only complaint is that the lid will close shut rather quickly even if you are working in front of it dumping multiple garbage items at one time. It will close on me and them I have to re-wave my hand to get it to open again so that I can finish dumping the garbage. Otherwise, this is a much more useful garbage can than the one that I just replaced.

When our beloved Costco automatic trash can died after three years, we went back for another, only to discover they no longer carry them. So, off to Amazon we went. This one came at a good price and had decent reviews, so we bought it. It was not what we expected. It says 13 gallon, but it is quite a bit shorter than our other one. They are nearly the same diameter. 13 gallon may be the closest garbage bag size they make for it, but it is does not measure up. The motion detection works most of the time. Probably once per day we have to hit the button, though. It will just not recognize us. It there is something in the way of it closing all the way, it does not just stay open like our old one. This one makes a high pitched humming noise until you either push the button to open it or move the item in the way. I am sure this will kill the battery if not caught early on. The lid is not a smooth open and close lid. It is a bit aggressive. The lid is made from a lightweight plastic, which may be why it seems so harsh. There is not enough weight to slow it down. Despite all these little things, we are keeping it. We still have our broken Costco garbage can next to it without the lid. If you had that one, this one is a disappointment. One day we will throw out the old one, but we are not there yet. I think we are waiting to see if this new one lasts more than a couple of months.
