This was my first time buying a garbage can with the motion detection feature and it's actually pretty cool. First off, I was going from a tall cylindrical garbage can to this item which is shorter, wider, and rectangular which is definitely a plus as it's much easier to dump in garbage from smaller cans that I have in the bathroom and bedroom. The motion detection feature isn't as sensitive as I've seen from other reviewers who complained that the can opened every time they walked by it. I have a small kitchen and I'm literally in front of it when standing working on the counter and the can does not open. I actually have to wave my hand in close proximity to get it to open. Since this is not a step activated can, it doesn't have the hinge that my old can had and was scratching my refrigerator and the lid doesn't hit the wall or refrigerator like my old can did. My only complaint is that the lid will close shut rather quickly even if you are working in front of it dumping multiple garbage items at one time. It will close on me and them I have to re-wave my hand to get it to open again so that I can finish dumping the garbage. Otherwise, this is a much more useful garbage can than the one that I just replaced. ... show more

I bought this one based on price, size and finish. The auto-open lid is a hoot! I ended up taking the top off entirely though because I like being able to "toss" things in the garbage while cooking without having to walk over to it and wave my hand every time. I'd still buy it, even if it didn't have the cool lid. Oh, and when using the top I like that you can tuck the bag inside so it doesn't show. Very nice. ... show more

    • Well made, but the sensor is...meh.

The sensor on this trash can is very picky. You either have to put something very large in front of it, or hold it very close, and you can't just wave your hand over the sensor, you have to hold it there for a second. This means if you hold your hand or something similarly sized over the sensor, the lid will hit it as it opens and fail to open all the way. The can itself is very well made, as is the ring that hold the bag in and even the lid itself. It takes C batteries, which will be a pain if you don't keep them around, but you can just stick some cardboard in there and use AAs since they're all the same voltage and amperage. AAs just won't last as long. ... show more

We were looking to replace our odd shaped trash can, and this hit all the marks! It is a great product with a hands free sensor, it is a nice looking trash can for the price. Does require 2 C batteries, but have lasted pretty well considering the amount of use this recieves! Highly recommend

This can is so sturdy - after a holiday party it was stuffed with empty wine bottles and never bent, dented or failed to work. An inner removable ring works perfectly to hold the disposable garbage bag in place securely. the lid opens with a wave of your hand and automatically closes when you move away. Love that! What a nice looking trash can! Very modern and fits nicely into my space. I love the motion detector because I don’t necessarily have to touch the lid. The only small issue is that it’s so sensitive that it pops open sometimes if someone is just walking by it. I do like that fact that it’s a wider can than my previous 13 gal. one. That one was taller and seemed to fill up faster, but when I would take the bag out, all of the trash would fall to the bottom and half the bag wasn’t even filled yet! At least with this can, the bag will full for real when it’s time to remove it. Glad I purchased it! 👍🏽 ... show more
