Overall the pergola system is great. I installed the 9x12 ft system on the rooftop deck. It looks amazing. The material and finish quality are generally great. There are a few potential issues that the manufacturer could improve: (1) the connectors of the aluminum beams are made of steel, likely for higher strength. That leaves the potential problem of rusting overtime, especially for my location right next to the beach. I hope the process of rusting will be slow since these parts are inside the beams and are also well painted. I wish all parts were made of aluminum. (2) as rusting is concerned I wish the screws were stainless steel. (3) There is a minor design flaw for the center beam. It won’t assemble to a flush even position on the top with the main side beams as shown in the manual. Instead the top of the center beam sticks out about 1/3rd of an inch. That is not a problem though as you won’t even notice it when Louver blades are in place. Nevertheless the manufacturer should have provided a plastic cover to seal the opening to prevent water from flowing into the beams that could cause rusting over time (see 1 and 2). I will cut a piece of plastic to seal the opening myself. (4) The manufacturer could have offered fitting sun screens for the open sides. I ended up installing a 8ft screen that is not a perfect fit, and I have to drill holes on the bottom of the beam to mount it. The assembly process is relatively straightforward. It took me about 6 hours, mostly just by myself. I have a few tips for assembly: (1) Using an electric drill makes it a lot easier. (2) It can be done mostly by one person. Most of the work is to connect the five beams together with connectors. (3) I assemble the posts with the long side beams on the floor first. Now you need one more person to help putting up the frame to assemble the cross beams. (4) If you have the pergola in a location that doesn’t allow drilling, one good solution is to fix the bottom plate of the post with strong glue, e.g. epoxy. This is exactly what I did since I have the pergola on the rooftop deck where I don’t want to drill the tiles to break the water seals. The price for a system like this can cost up to $20K with installation included. I paid just over $2K for this system. The overall quality and appearance are great! Looking forward to enjoying it for a long time.

The assembly of the 10x12 pergula went very smooth. All parts were received to do the assembly. The parts were all numbered and the instructions were very clear. The total assembly took 5 hours with 2 people. The louvered mechanism works very smooth. It's nice to adjust it when the sun is not wanted. The pergula is solid and well built. I would definitely recommend anyone to purchase this Purple Leaf Louvered Pergula. The companies customer service has contacted me twice and asked if everything went well with the assembly. So I was completely satisfied with total experience.

I purchased 2 of the 9 x 14 units and installed side by side to cover my stone paver backyard patio space of 14 by 18 ft. I purchased the units based only on the pictures and reviews. After receiving the units and standing them up I have been quite satisfied with the design of the units and its build quality. Now, some specific comments. 1. On receiving the unit, 6 boxes per unit are delivered over the course of several days. One of the box for one of the units were delayed by quite a bit. However working with the Seller over Amazon to track the missing box was quite good. Purple Leaf's customer service and communications was consistent and helpful. 2. On the build up of the unit, the instructions were clear. One suggestion is that for the build up of the center cross beam I highly recommend aligning the holes and threading the screws on the sides before threading the screws on top. This will allow for better alignment of the beam sections. One of my unit also had a slightly bent louvre panel. This was easily fixed with a set of pliers and as such I did not needed to request a replacement part. All-in-all, the build was straightforward, but it does require more than one person to assemble the unit. A power tool to install the screws is highly recommended since there are quite a large number of screws in the kit. 3. I am using the unit to cover my outdoor Jiu Jitsu training area that was born out of covid. I am cautiously optimistic on its ability to shield rain from the mats. I did have to purchase a small piece of poly carbonate roofing material to cover the gap between the two individual units as well as the sun shade side panels. Overall, I am quite satisfied with this product.

Took me and another adult about 3.5 hrs to assemble (not counting the forthcoming cassions). Assembly was not difficult. The product appears to be well constructed.

25x13 Came 5 days early. 12 boxes. Where's the manual? Box 7 of course. Had to get a building permit. Easy process in my city, Huntsville, AL. Assembled pergola on a 30x17 deck. Anchored the six legs to 2x10 deck joist cross blocking joists with joist hangers. Column bolts are 4" lag bolts. Passed inspection. My suggestion is to check with your local building department regarding permit requirements. Here it's an easy process. It would be a shame for a neighbor, HOA, or inspector to see a new pergola and be ordered to tear it down and start over. A helper or two are useful for erecting the two long sides. Be mindful of bracing to avoid the long sides from toppling. Once the two long sides are upright and one short side is attached, the structure is much more stable. Half of the weight is the 128 louvers, which go on last, and the initial structure can be scooted around with relative ease to establish column positioning and plumb. The bolt holes for the longer beams don't always line-up perfectly, so it helps to have a bench grinder handy to grind a taper on the connecting bolts. In the worst cases, after a taper is ground, a triangular file can be used to file threads on the taper to lead the bolt into the hole. I only had to do this on one bolt, but it worked flawlessly and the bolt found home perfectly. I don't flaw the manufacturer because this is a huge, heavy structure (640 lbs) and tolerances can be tricky and can vary based on the foundation. The louvers are well-designed, snap in easily, and rotate smoothly. Rain removal by the louvers' engagement is flawless. Water removal channels work well in a soft rain, but in a downpour some big raindrops find the 1/4" gaps at the center beams and splash into the gutter built into the cross beams at the center of the structure, splashing water onto the deck. I added some silicone weatherstrip to the upper edge of the center louvers to lay against the center beam and seal the gap to solve the gap problem. (Amazon item: https://a.co/d/24pamxX) There is a similar gap at the shorter ends, so I added the same weatherstrip there to solve the raindrop splash issue. The rain removal system built into the design works very well when raindrops are not allowed to impact the built-in gutters and produce splashing. The key is to prevent the impact of a raindrop striking the standing water in the gutter, causing spray to blast onto your deck or patio. Overall, I am very pleased with this pergola. It has greatly enhanced our backyard enjoyment.

I am very impressed on this Pergola for multiple reasons. First, it came in 7 boxes and all VERY WELL PACKAGED! Very well thought out and organzied with a sheet in box 1 that explains which box contains all the necessary steps. The instructions had you measure out; say 105.64 inches... why not do it in metric? This was my only "gripe". I had to determine what "0.64" came to in fractions. Now the fact that the instructions were that "precise"... I spent almost a whole day marking on the concrete the site for the posts... measuring them, remeasuring them and triple measuring them (didn't want to screw up concrete with holes in the incorrect spot). Once I "jumped off the ledge"... it actually went together VERY WELL. It took me about 2 days to finish. It is very well made, very sturdy and I can't think how any other Pergola could be better.

Perhaps you have to put this together yourself to appreciate the quality of the materials and the thought that went into the design, but I'm very impressed. Everything was well packaged and perfectly labeled. The only nit I had to pick was that they didn't say which of the seven cartons contained the instructions, but I reached out to Purple Leaf and they responded quickly (carton 5 in my 11x17 model). The louvered roof design is brilliant. Once the frame is completed, the roof panels just snap into place, and that part of the assembly only took a couple of hours. One roof panel was bent slightly on a corner so that it didn't want to snap in, but it straightened out with a pair of pliers and the damage is not visible at all. That was the extent of shipping damage. There were a couple times that the drawings in the instruction book had me confused, but once you start the assembly it becomes obvious what the drawing is showing. Working by myself the entire assembly process took two days, though I had the help of an engine hoist to raise the completed frame side rails. I doubt I could have done it alone without that. My pergola is going to be used as a carport, and in my county a building permit was not required as it is a few feet under the 200 square ft. limit. The previous poster who gave a one-star review because the roof leaked must have done something wrong when they assembled it. Some mastic-type tape is provided to seal seams where the beams join in the middle, and yes, if you forget that step it will leak like crazy. One of mine did leak initially because didn't install it properly, but that was my fault and easily fixed. That said, this is open at the sides and rain will blow in when it's windy (duh!).
