I just received my second trash can of same brand & style...1st one had one of the lid snaps was damaged so I had to pack everything up & take to ups...all over someone not doing a simple check so it was def frustrating but anywho, I chose this one due to the thoughtfulness of the design, the animal/child lock latch, wall bumper option, slow release & size...my old trash can was 13g as well & it was small compared to this one, (i almost thought I ordered the wrong size too big)..it seems durable! If your looking for simple & effective in more ways than 1 then id def reccomend this one here! Idk if I could of just got an replacement lid only cause I didmt go thru with the product customer service because I had went thru Amazon return, so it was taken care of already the 1st day..but I would go that route if anything els happens with needing a replacement part. ... show more

Nice looking and I love the lock feature on it. and the lid motion, how it slowly closes on its own. it is hard plastic very sturdy, and spendy for a plastic trash can but all in all I am very happy with it.

It’s been kicked, thrown down stairs, and knocked over countless times; yet it’s still just as functional now as it was when it first arrived. I don’t think I realized just how high quality simple human was before I bought it. I remember thinking it was a good price considering the functionality and aesthetics, and that maybe I could get 1-3 years out of it. But more than 5 years later, it’s still my daily (kitchen) trash can. That said, it does have scuffs, and some of the silver paint on locking mechanism has worn off some (probably from being kicked down the stairs a dozen times.) But for $50 this trash can is a steal for the quality. I know some will think that even $50 is too much for a trash can, but it’s certainly worth it. It’s ergonomic, it’s practical, and it always works as intended. It’s especially easy to clean too. Considering the build quality, functionality, and practicality of this trash can; I highly recommend it. It’s nice having such a well made trash can that is high quality, and that has a fashionable aesthetic. But best of all, is not having to concern yourself with taking the utmost care of it. You can just forget about it for 5 years, treat it extremely poorly, and it’ll still be working great. 👍 I only reviewed this now after I began renovations on my home, and I decided to check the date when I’d bought the can out of curiosity. After realizing the quality of it, I decided to buy a new simple human trash can. It’s the slightly bigger (55L) matte black step can. The new step can was $200, but after the rough 5 years that this wonderful trash can has spent with me, and my family, I have enough confidence in the quality that the $200 will no doubt be worth it. ... show more

I love the look of it, the chrome additions make it look a little more stylish. Its also very durable, feels like it will last a lot longer than my Rubbermaid one. My Rubbermaid was a horrible design as the trashbag covers the mechanism that pops the lid open with the foot pedal, and also the hinges for the lid broke after continuously fighting to put it back on every time it popped off when pressing the foot pedal. The SimpleHuman doesnt have this issue. I also like how it has the lock feature and the slow closing mechanism. Bought this couple months ago for Christmas and its been great! ... show more

So, funny story. I bought this because my husky somehow BROKE my other trash can by stepping on the pedal too hard while the lid was locked. And he did that because he wanted to dig for trash. He also has a bad habit of knocking over trash cans to get into them. So my solution was to buy a trash can with sturdier lid locking mechanism, and to place 2 heavy bricks on the bottom of it. So far, so good! He hasn't knocked this one over. Anyway, onto the product. Pros: - Aesthetically, the design is nice. - Silent lid operation. Now this one surprised me. I didn't even know the trash can had this feature until I tried it out and the lid gently closed down. Amazing. No more funky smells getting aired out as the lid closes. Plus it just seems so.. elegant. - The slide lock is super strong. Like, almost too secure. See cons list for more details. - Good quality. I was afraid my bricks would eventually damage it, but I've had this trash can for awhile now and it's holding up just fine. Cons: - Price. Well, you can also see it as an investment in quality I guess. - Might have to experiment with different trash bags to get the right fit for the unique shape. - The slide lock is difficult to push and pull. It makes it super secure, but dang does it make a loud sound when I slide it shut! And to get it open I can't just use one hand (not even with the bricks weighing the trash can down). I have to hold the trash can with my other hand to slide the lock open or else I'll just drag the entire trash can. That's how secure it is. - While it seems like the trash can will fit nicely against walls, you actually have to leave some space for the lid. When the lid opens, it pushes the wall and the trash can outwards if you don't leave some space between the trash can and the wall. I hope the product team will deal with this eventually. Still, in comparison to other brands, which I've had my fair share of experience with, this one truly stands out. I've tried those with motion sensors, and while they feel futuristic, nothing beats the reliability of a simple step mechanism. Plus, those sensors can get finicky and don’t even get me started on battery replacements. ... show more
