Purchased this trash can to replace the exact model I already owned. The lid finally cracked. I purposely chose to buy this same can as it’s been very durable and holds bags very well. BUT, why on earth do the stickers need to be so difficult to remove?! I had to apply GooGone multiple times and scrape it off with a credit card! Now it’s all scuffed up before it’s seen the first piece of trash thrown in it. I know it’s just a trash can, but it’s annoying. ... show more

Not sure how this trash can made it to production let alone with Rubbermaid on it. When you press on the pedal the plastic flexes and lid is slow to open, sometimes doesn't open all the way. The top where the bag stretches around is a cheap plastic half ring that pops off and bag falls into can. Not sure what the point of those are but they do nothing to keep the bag on. The can itself is oversized so 13g bags will not fit at top of can, only on the cheap plastic half rings that keep falling off. Nothing about this works. Never thought I would be writing a review on a trash can but wow is this a horrible waste of money. Don't buy or see for yourself... ... show more

We've had expensive, battery-operated models that may look nicer, but would always stop working. We tried this one and love it. It has a large opening, is durable, and is easy to remove full trash bags, unlike the more expensive ones.

    • Your Standard 13 Gal Bags May Not Fit

Rubbermaid decided not to warn customers that a good percentage of the 13 gal bags on the market will not necessarily fit this can. I'm a data nerd. I happen to know that 25% of Americans shop at Costco each month, the same as at Kroger or Target. Costco sells only one type/size of kitchen trash bag -- 13 gal. And they sell it in packs of 200. Yet despite their ubiquity, Costco's 13 gal trash bags do not fit on this 13 gal trash can. They are too tight, making it impossible to get the inner arms to stay down, thus preventing the lid from closing. If you are having trouble with this and call a customer care rep, they will tell you to buy non-13-gal bags... "We recommend buying a 15 or 18 gal bag if 13 gal doesn't fit." I realize in the grand scheme of things this is not a crisis, but I put a good deal of effort into choosing the products I buy, and of all the things I might have worried about concerning a new product, 13 gal bags not fitting on a 13 gal can wasn't one of them. I saved $10 choosing this can over another brand, yet now I have $20 worth of trash bags that I will struggle to find a use for. Of course the alternative is to send it back, which is a headache Rubbermaid and I both could have avoided if they had tweaked the design or made it clear that you need non-standard 13 gal bags or should err on the side of caution and buy 15 or 18 gal bags. Unsurprisingly, the marketing materials suggest no such thing. On top of that, the can wobbles any time you touch it. Doesn't matter what surface you put it on, how much trash is inside it, how much force you use when you open or close it, it will wobble back and forth a few times after you do anything with it. How hard is it to make something that balances on a level surface without help? ... show more

The locking aspect never works for me. this is my second can like this. The other one would not stay connected to open lid. It never locked in the sides.
