    • Great semi-permeable canvas. Cheap stakes included.

Canvas blocks the correct amount of light and allows enough wind to pass through though water WILL pass through as well. The texture makes it difficult to install because it won't slide easily on surfaces, guide ropes or on itself when it overlaps. But once installed with hard anchors or screw stakes, it was fine. The stakes it came with are only slightly more than shish kabob tooth picks. They are terrible. Plan on getting some good, screw stakes if this isn't for a permanent install because this will catch quite a bit of wind. ... show more

    • Unexpected seam mars the look...

The shade sail came promptly, had minimal instructions for installation, but there are plenty of youtube demos. I purchased the installation hardware kit, and still had to go to the hardware store for 2 additional carabiners and chain long enough to properly install with adequate tension through the diagonal lines, as instructed. Only after we had the shade installed did we realize it's not one continuous 13', but 2 pieces, one approx. 10' and the other approx. 3,' with an apparently sturdy seam--off center and obvious--reversing the installation put the seam in a less conspicuous place. I'll come back when I've had a season or two to assess the sturdiness and durability. Does the job I purchased it to do, minor complaints, and seems value for the money. ... show more

We purchased a large shade sail for our patio and this is really big and shades pretty well for what we need. It has rained several times and each time, after things dry out we make the ropes for the sail tighter. Rain does pass through and goes right to the middle, so the sag is pretty bad, passes through alright. Everything under it will get wet, but we figured it would be that way. We placed this right behind our backdoor to keep the morning sun from heating our kitchen too much in the summer. It has helped a lot. Our patio is 25'X30" so the sail covers most of it. If this lasts till colder weather, I will be happy enough. I would recommend using pulleys on each corner and attaching this to something tall. If you use just the side of your house, once it sags, it makes it easier to tighten the ropes again. ... show more
