I thought I had won the battle with my dog diving into the garbage can. My pittie first broke the electronics and easily figure out that if she just knocked over the whole can, the cover would come off. And back in the garbage can she is....I dont know if bear straps will owrk, I ordered some but they seem too short with the space availble to drill. A costly purchase!

UPDATE. 1 YEAR AND A MONTH LATER It is completely malfunctioning. Opens when it wants stinking the whole house up. I close it and walk away, 10 seconds later, it opens up again and the buttons don’t work anymore so I have to manually close it. Automatic opening barely works. Waste of money. This is my first automatic lid trash can, but I'm not super thrilled with it for a few reasons and I probably would do better with a smaller size. - As a one person household, it takes longer for trash to accumulate, therefore food rot has been a huge issue - The lid is seals it up so tight, that it's a constant breeding ground for maggots which get all in to every nook and cranny - The nooks and crannies!...omg, so messy to clean up esp if maggots have formed. They get all in to the battery compartment (which I don't use - mine is plugged in. The screws on the underside were rusted after first use - that's how tightly it seals and moisture forms very quickly inside. - The odor absorber packet is pretty useless. I left a review on the refills page, but they really only last 1-2 trash changes for me, and what's worse is that once it absorbs the odor, it doesn't block it, it amplifies it. SO, i end up having to toss the packet after the 2nd use or the whole house smells like two trash bags ago! lol - The motion detectors are a bit touchy too. IF there's direct light facing it, it will not respond most of the time. I've had to stand in front to cast a shadow in order for it to respond at night. It's never and issue during the day. Functionally, I do like this product, but I'm thinking i just needed to find a smaller capacity. There are some quality control issues like the early rusting screws and the plug in the back (i'm not using batteries). Every time I have to remove the lid to change the bag, i have to unplug the back and the whole plug in box comes out dangling from it's internal wires! Have to pull plug out carefully for this not to happen.

I've had this trash can now for a couple of months and works as expected. I have it plugged in so not using batteries. Lid opens and closes as set. Easy to clean, good quality, looks nice in kitchen. Highly Recommend.

The media could not be loaded. Packaged very well. No damages out of the box. Used the included AC adapter and it worked perfectly! Very quiet and doesn't slam shut quickly which is one thing I was worried about. It's hard taking a chance buying things online sometimes when you aren't able to physically see/test it out for yourself first but I can say I am very pleased with this trashcan. Upon taking it out of the box it seemed SLIGHTLY smaller than I envisioned in my head but the more I stare at it the more the size is actually growing on me lol. It's actually a little taller than my current trashcan and I think the rectangular shape makes it look "smaller" at first glance because it's not as wide as the trashcans I've been accustomed to. We've always had a round or oval shaped trashcan but this rectangular shape allowed us to neatly "tuck it away" in between our counter and bakers rack so it actually ended up being a spacesaver! Can't review yet as far as the odor control since we just hooked it up but we've never really had a huge problem with odor before because we change our trashbags out regularly so I don't anticipate any odor especially with the odor filter. It shows the AC adapter and filter on the picture so I thought it included an ADDITIONAL filter but it does not. It includes 1 activated carbon odor filter in a sealed plastic bag, the trashcan, the sensor trash can lid (with the odor filter compartment you can slide on/off), trash bag retainer ring, AC adapter and user manual.
