  • Works perfectly!
Size: IBT-4XS with 4 probe
I've been looking for a good probe thermometer for grilling for a while now to replace my trusty old model that's clearly seen better days. My original has only 1 temp probe, no backlit display, and no corresponding phone app. I watched a BBQ dude on YouTube and he had recommended Inkbird - and this one for the price of less than $40 bones seemed to tick all the boxes I was looking for. After reading reviews concerning the range of the bluetooth, I was a little worried that the WiFi version may be a better option - but it's about double the price, and I didn't really want to spend $85 or so at this time. I unboxed it, downloaded the BBQ Go app on my Galaxy phone, and quickly and easily paired the two. I threw a whole spatchcocked chicken on the grill, and I used one probe (Probe 1) for the chicken, and I used a second probe (probe 3) for the temperature inside the grill. Speaking of probe 3 - I noticed some reviewers didn't seem to know that the one probe that does not match the others - the one that is not pointy - is meant to be used for this exact reason - so please bear that in mind if you purchase this. You take one of the grill clips - clip it into the grill and slide that probe through so it measures your grill temps. As you can see in my picture - probe 1 marked Chicken 2 is 88°F and probe 3 is showing my grill temp at 390°F. Also note that the app includes many pre-created temperatures based on the meat you're cooking. I tend to create my own (Chicken 2 for example) - so I can prevent overcooking meats. This app has some good presets - in fact, they include a rare beef option at 120 - which is great - but personally, I like my beef VERY rare - so I cook to about 115 or so and it's great that I can set my own custom temps. I'll admit the app can use a few quality of life upgrades like a dark mode setting (I always use dark mode on my phone) - and also a way to stop the alarm without opening the app by using clicking the notification. Unfortunately, that does nothing - but I won't deduct any points for that as it's not a deal breaker. Bottom line - so far this device works great - has an easy to see display, works great with the app and has a much better range than I expected based on reviews. I was able to check my temperatures from my kitchen while my grill was on the back patio and I had no drops and no loss in signal strength. Granted, I live in a townhouse, and if you live on a farm and your grill is really far from your house, I can't speak to how well that would work, but for me - the range is excellent. Bottom line, this product works great and I will be using it for ALL my cooks from now on. I'll update this review if anything gets weird in the near future - but this Inkbird Meat Thermometer gets my approval and recommendation. ... show more

  • Accurate and easy to use
Size: IBT-4XS with 4 probe
First some background info: I am an avid pellet smoker who smokes meat several times a month. I have struggled with higher priced wireless thermometers for years. I currently have 3 Maverick two port units. The reason for three is that I often have two smokers going side by side and need to register the grill temp plus the meat temp. The mavericks did the job but the probes were never accurate but they were at least consistent. The third unit was simply as a back up or for when I was unable to get the Maverick to program correctly. Those units are not easy to program and one wrong button and you find yourself cycling through the whole temp range. To program the Mavericks typically took me 30 minutes to get the pair running. Then there is also an issue with batteries, they use AAA and even when off they drain the batteries so I had to always remove and reinstall batteries never knowing when they were going to run down in the middle of the night on a long smoke. I often to 13-15 hour Brisket smoking. Inkbird IBT-4XS : I have to say this is the most accurate thermometer that I have. Seems to be spot on with all test. After using this a few times, I have put all my higher priced Maverick units in the closet. With the app, this unit is easy to program, can make custom programs for special temp ranges or specific temps for certain meats. Programming and setting up is literally a few minutes. When using custom presets, it is only a matter of turning on the unit and connecting the Bluetooth to my phone. I have used it on both android and apple products and have had zero issues with the app on either. I will have to say the Bluetooth range on my Ipad seems a little better than on my android. When setting up, just make sure you insert the probes into the unit until you hear them click into place. those reviews saying that were reading 500+ inside the house is because the probe was not inserted fully. The instructions clear tell you that if you do not insert the probe into the unit fully that you will get the 500+ degree error reading. Connecting the until to my mobile device was simple. The alarm warning is very loud. Battery life is great, have not had an issue since you just recharge the unit and do not need batteries. I did a test just leaving the unit connect to my ipad inside the house and the unit ran almost 3 days before shutting off and still saved all my pre-set info. Took about 2 hours to fully charge back to 100%. Does not seem to lose much charge during storage but obviously it will lose a little each day. Also the magnet on the back of the unit it plenty strong. I magnet mount mine on the hopper area of a Trager and have had zero issues. The probe cables are long enough to reach two smokers sitting side by side thus giving you 2 probes to use in each smoker. So in summary, I could not be more happy with the unit. Seems well build although would not want to drop it. Hope to have many years usage out of this product. ... show more

  • Great for smoking large pieces of meat (pork butts, briskets, etc...), not as good for smaller cuts
Size: IBT-4XS with 4 probe
Depending on your intended use, this could either be the perfect product or the worst, so keep that in mind. PROS: When used with large pieces of meat, such as pork butts, briskets, large/long steaks, like NY strip, it works great and is very accurate; Four inputs for cooking multiple cuts, or monitoring multiple locations on large cut of meat; Ambient temp sensor to monitor grill temp Range is very good CONS: Can only be connected to one phone/device at a time, so you can not monitor from multiple devices; I have found that the internal probes are too impacted by ambient temperature if you are not able to fully insert: When I tried using for grilling smaller cuts, such as sausages and chicken thighs, where I was only able to insert the probe to about 95% of its length, the temperatures were way off. I had a raw chicken thigh that I threw on the grill straight from the fridge, and as soon as the chicken was put inside the grill, the unit was reading an "internal" temperate of 120 degrees, then slowly rose to the temperature of the grill. I knew there was no way my cold chicken could have gone up to 300 degrees in less than 1 minute. I tried moving the probe, changing the angle, the direction, etc..., but still could not get what I would have considered an accurate reading. I will still use this for smoking my larger meats as, again, the product works great for that. ... show more
