--Original Review 2/24/2020 -- Received my thermometer today, calibrated it and tested it with just water. I was able to get a steady reading within ~4 seconds in hot, warm and cold tap water. - Nice, large display is easy to read - I love how compact it is, with the probe rotating safely back into the body - It turns on by simply pulling the probe out and rotating it. Probe can rotate 180 degrees - Shuts off automatically after a couple of minutes I would have given this item 5 stars, had it not been for the non-functioning backlight, straight out of the box. I even removed and replaced the battery, all to no avail. Will be returning this to Amazon for a replacement. Hopefully, the second time will be the charm... **UPDATE 2/29/2020** PLEASE READ!! ** I decided to email Kizen directly, rather than return the item to Amazon. Less than four hours after I sent the email, I already had a reply from Kizen Support! Mary apologized for the inconvenience of my receiving a defective item, assured me it was covered by a lifetime warranty, and she promised to ship a replacement out the next day. Sure enough, two days later, the replacement arrived at my doorstep! From the time I received Mary's email, to the time it arrived, less than 48 hours had elapsed! I am pleased to report the backlight on the replacement unit works flawlessly, providing a nice, bright blue display in low-light conditions. This level of Customer Support can be tough to come by these days, but Kizen went above and beyond, not only in how quickly they responded to my email, but stepping up and sending out a replacement unit in one day! Keep in mind, this is not an expensive item, but Kizen takes customer satisfaction very seriously, and I can't say enough good about the way I was treated. I highly recommend Kizen and their outstanding Customer Support. This is a great little thermometer, which is accurate, easy to use, compact, and functions as described.

What a handy and practical thermometer - works great - I just started making regular fresh fish and wanted to confirm that I cook the fish to the recommended temperature every time. This handy thermometer hangs right on my refrigerator so has easy access while cooking. It ensures quality food and safe meals are delivered to your family at the proper cooked temperature. This practical gadget is a wonderful addition to my kitchen utensils. It is not heavy, built well and gives accurate readings with ease. Recommend!

Overall this thermometer works well. It's easy to read and quick to get to temperature. My issue is that though it starts that it's IP67 rated, after leaving it out by the grill overnight in the rain water is inside the housing and now the numbers won't display. My wife told me this is the second one this has happened to. She just assumed it wasn't meant to withstand rain and I got in trouble for leaving it out again. To be fair I shouldn't have left it out, but it happens. I searched for waterproof digital thermometers, and this came up as a recommendation. When I saw is supposed to be IP67 I felt vindicated, though still delinquent. But it really shouldn't be affected by rain. Although we liked it enough to buy another, so I still give it four stars. Though I will probably look for something that looks more waterproof in the future.

Bought this 4 years ago on the recommendation from a friend who is a chef. It continues to work great whether in the hose cooking on the stove or in the oven, or out on the grill. It turns on and lights up when the probe is extended making it easy and convenient to use. Has magnet built in that allows ours to live on the side of our fridge in convenient reach of the oven. We have checked its accuracy multiple times over the past 4 years and it has been flawless. Would highly recommend this thermometer especially given its cost. Would not grill or smoke without this tool and would purchase again if we ever need another.

I reserve 5 star reviews for products that exceed my expectations. This thermometer certainly does that! My son-in-law told me about this instant read thermometer for use on the grill to verify the degree of doneness for steaks. I own a Weber gas grill, a Weber Kettle Grill, and a Weber Smoky Mountain smoker, and frequently cook on them. I bought one of the Kizen thermometers and have been using it at my grill. It is especially useful when I cook a whole roasted chicken! Recently, we were cooking whole catfish inside in the oven and my wife used my thermometer the check it and decided that she had to have one too! So I ordered a second one. What I like the most about the thermometer is that to use it, all I have to do is to open it like a pocketknife and put the probe in the meat. It gives me a reading almost instantly. I can more the probe in and out to check the temperature at different depths in the meat. There is also a quick temperature guide printed on the side of the thermometer to help remind me what temperature I need for different meats. By the way, if you are cooking pork butt for BBQ or a brisket, the target temperature is higher than the "done" temperature for pork. Around 210 degrees or so. Calibration is easy and only needs to be done occasionally. It comes with a battery installed plus there is a spare battery that is provided. I've had my first one 18 months now, and have not had to replace the battery yet, so the battery lasts for a very long time! The accuracy of the readings is within a degree, which is more than sufficient for cooking. As far as I am concerned, there are no improvements that could be made to this design. It is pretty well perfect, including the price! That's why I am giving it 5 stars!
