Close Focus Distance Why part of the image appears wobble when the camera is slightly moved while recording? This phenomenon also known as the jello effect appears when the camera is vibrating. It is recommended to lower the mechanical image stabilization in camera setting. Why images have pincushion distortion filming with Saturn anamorphic lenses? All anamorphic lenses exhibit distortion, which is a characteristic of certain optics. Compared to barrel distortion, the pincushion is easier to address in post-editing. Why the lens flares are excessive or insufficient? The intensity of lens flares is deeply affected by the filming operation and light source. It can be controlled by filmmakers to an expected outcome. Why the focus breath is so noticeable when filming wide open? All anamorphic lenses present focus breath to a certain extent. I love this line of lenses. I have the 75mm and went ahead and purchased the 35mm for a wider angle. It doesn’t disappoint and the quality is exceptionally well. I took it out once so far for nature and landscape videography. The 35 performed great for establishing shots while the 75 punched in enough for the isolated interesting shots, if that makes sense. Sirui has done a great job with this line up.

Very happy with the performance of this lens. I wanted to experiment with anamorphic lens as a photography tool for cinematic wide screen photos. For this purpose it’s been absolutely fabulous and a great value for the stupid cheap money compared to high end lenses. I have experienced very. Minimal vignetting with this lens on my L mount Leica and it’s plenty sharp enough. It is not a very “characterful” lens compared to the likes of Light Lens Lab recreations spherical lenses or the Blazar lenses. But it serves a very good middle ground and a great way to experiment and see if you’d like to dive further into Anamorphic. Highly recommend for exploring new types of photography.

So this lens is super light, super sharp, and super easy to use. It does not have a ton of “character” for an anamorphic but it’s a great lens. I am returning mine because it was assembled upside down and it’s just…yeah.

Saturn Line and Venus Line Most Like Modern Pro Anamorphics

Absolutely stunning anamorphic image quality! I use the three Saturn Lenses and the Venus 100mm and 150mm in a hybrid studio mode in full-frame open gate 6K. No run and gun; static, slow pan/tilt, dolly moves--so shots are on screen a long time for study, therefore require exceptional optical performance. These lenses are far more similar to modern Panavision anamoprhics from the C-Series forward through E-Series and Primo anamorphics than any of the budget anamorphics that are caught up in optical imperfections described as "character." At best. those perform like very early anamorphics that were put out of service long ago. The Saturns and two long Venus lenses are exceptionally sharp (with great contrast if protected from stray light). Bokeh forms beautiful backgrounds. Bokeh ovals., unlike all the other budget anamorphic lenses, are of precise shape across the entire frame. The pincushion distortion is only noticeable on the 35mm near the edge and is easily corrected in Resolve. The 75mm is the workhorse Saturn for me. If you want the look of modern anamorphics, these are the lenses for you. You can view demo examples at the YT channel, Cinematc Visions West, which is all shot with rhe Sirui lenses.

A Great Little Lens

Things to consider: it's a manual-focus lens, which takes a while to get used to, but it will ultimately make you a better photographer. You'd want to invest in a diopter due to its rather long minimal focal range. Bottom line: get this if you love the anamorphic (filmic) look. There's nothing quite like it at this price point.

Quality build. And light. I knew there would be pincushion distortion. But on subjects closer-up with the 35mm length, the distortion was as much as two thirds of the frame. Had to send it back.

oct 4 , 2025 update : two ways too Edit to De-squeeze the video. 1. The Bad way: transform the x-axis , increasing x-axis , then the render may out put 1920 x 1016 ( most unusual ) 2. the accurate way: Blackmagic Davinci Resolve . Right click the clip in the Media Pool , and choose Clip Attributes . look for Pixel Aspect Ratio. look for Custom. type in the digit box , 1.6 and Save. End update oct 4, 2025 tested with green and red LED light source. there is some pincushion at the far left right ends of view . because of the wide view, f5.6 seems to keep the left right extremeties in focus, at MFD at about 3 feet recorded a circle . seems 1.5x de-squeeze looks best. 17:9 •1.5 = 2.8 aspect when i de-squeeze at 1.6 , everything is a bit too wide and squished. whatever hits the cmos is still the same . 3:2 • 1.5 = 2.25 i like 2.8 better , 17:9 • 1.5 = 2.8 17:9 recording gives 27:9 result ,... 3:1 16:9 recording gives 25:9 result,... 2.8:1 result 3:2 recording gives 21:9 result,... 2.4:1

Anamorphic!

Sterile image form the smallest anamorphic prime lens you can find. There are ways to assist in the lenses image quality if you are looking for more “mojo” The baseline image is exactly what was needed to set the custom look for production. Definitely worth the investment.
