I bought this is Jan 2021 for about $139. It's gone up ridiculously since then. I don't think I'd buy it at the current price (around $320 at the time of this writing). That said, this is a fantastic printer. No hassles whatsoever. It always does what I need, works with every device I've wanted to print from, the toner cartridges are super easy to change (and can be found cheaper from third parties), and works just as well now as it did the first day. I managed to set it up by myself (a very significant thing for me) without needing to take any anxiety meds during the process lol. Changing the cartridges takes about 30 seconds or even less once you get the hang of it. It's weirdly like someone deliberately engineered a printer that is user friendly, reliable, and doesn't give you any of the usual unnecessary and infuriating printer "pushback." I probably print an average of a page or two per day -- just light home use -- and I see no reason why this printer wouldn't keep working another several years, as long as HP doesn't do anything stupid like stop supporting the product. I have never used it with Alexa and probably never will, so I can't speak to that feature. But it scans, copies, and prints perfectly using the the normal methods. Wireless feature works perfectly. Knock-off cartridges are well-priced and the ones I've found last about a year at the above level of usage. If you can find this model at a more reasonable price, it's definitely worth getting. This is the first printer I've owned in probably 2 or 3 decades that I actually love and have had no problems with whatsoever. After all those troublesome others, this is a joy to use. But for all those good qualities, I'm STILL not sure I'd pay over $300 for it. I expected some inflation over the last few economically crazy years, but for a $140 item to skyrocket to almost 230% of that price in 4 years is just nuts. Look for it somewhere for under $200 if you can find it, or wait for prime day to see if it get (a lot) cheaper, and then snap it up.

UPDATE: OK, hi I'm back again. So - if you use the scanner with the HP Smart app (which, I'm not sure how you'd use it otherwise), I HIGHLY recommend saving your, say 22 PAGE DOCUMENT, *before* trying to edit it. I say that because the app is buggy AF and hangs up, thus losing your, say 22 PAGE DOCUMENT, and causing you to rescan it all over again. Basically, I'll be saving every document before trying to do anything to it in this app because it's buggy AF. The end. Still love the thing, but that was a waste of 20 minutes. UPDATE: OK, hi I'm back. So - I still am in honeymoon love with this printer because of all the things I said before, but for one thing that came up when I started my mad scanning of paperwork to Evernote via the HP Smart App. After successfully scanning in about a dozen single pages (a dozen individual scans of one page each), I tried to scan a two-page document and it suddenly couldn't connect to the HP server. Then, remembering something from a review about it having issues with large documents (though I believe this was related to a hard drive memory issue, but didn't investigate to confirm), I tried to scan and upload the two pages individually but still, no connection. I haven't been able to establish a connection to the server since and then upload any more scans to Evernote via the HP Smart App. I did however find a workaround (sigh) that does work fine, though requiring of more clicking around - scan to PDF on the hard drive and then upload to Evernote directly. So, the scanning-to-Evernote thing does work but this is mostly because Evernote is a brilliant app that offers diverse functionality rather than because HP's software is bulletproof. Which it is not and, as I rolled my eyes and forged ahead with my workaround, I realized was not much of a surprise. Still a great little printer and a nice scanner so still good and definitely worth the modest price tag, just a little buggy on the software side, which duh. Good thing is that, IF HP DECIDES TO BE A BRO, the software could be fixed and an update could be made available to customers. Just saying, HP... *Original review* FYI: I just got this printer today and have only printed and scanned a few pages with it so far, but I'm so impressed that I'm, for once, leaving a review. If it turns out to suck later for some hideous reason, I'll come back and update. First off - the WIFI connectivity went off without a hitch. Easy, fast, no snags. I took one reviewer's advice and didn't plug the printer into my laptop first and that may have made a difference, but who's to know. I literally just followed the instructions out of the box and it connected on the first go. DOPE. Second - SURPRISE WIN - I set up the HP Smart app on my computer just to see what the features were all about and found a pot of effing gold. Using the Smart Tasks feature, I connected my freshly-hatched HP Smart account (which I will admit I was hesitant to create because who TF needs another "account", but alas, I forged ahead) to my Evernote account and now I can choose for any of my scans to go to my Evernote account. YES, FOR REALS. Now, if you're not a devotee of the brilliant-but-sunsetted Evernote ScanSnap device, this will mean nothing to you, but if you are and you have, like me, been clinging to ancient drivers so that you can still scan to Evernote, you need cling no longer. Create a Smart Task in this HP Smart thing, connect your Evernote account and then every time you scan something, it'll scan to Evernote. JUST LIKE WITH THE SCANSNAP EXCEPT NOW ON YOUR PRINTER YES. Granted, it won't do 50 pages a minute, but I barely care. I just want to be able to scan stuff to the cloud where all my documents for the last decade are organized without having to rely on ancient drivers and software that's no longer supported and this wee MFP (whose acronyms I'm now reassigning because "Multi-Function" is a drastic understatement of its grandeur) does it all. Third - It prints fine. If there's a fourth thing, I'll totally lose my mind because for whatever $100 this thing cost it's totally worth it. Oh! It's small AF! I could put it in my backpack if I really wanted to for some bizarre reason. There you go - I've lost my mind over a printer. Congratulations, HP - I'm glad you're still making printers even though all I ever use it for is to print USPS labels and occasionally an agenda for a paper-loving client, but good on ya. This thing is The One of MFing Ps!

Ok useful information.. Best size...smallest I've ever seen Fast print speed Excellent print quality No trouble with jams or paper falling into tray. Wired cable hookup a breeze....2 secs Wireless: huge hassle IT IS NOT PLUG AND PLAY To ALL those who say a breeze your liars or your doing with a cable only ...because all I want is wireless and for experienced computer people who know, this was not easy The printer is GOOD but weed out the stupid 5 star reviews that say oh plugged it in and go... KRlewis, lisa, Jim are all bad reviews who are either not using standard equipment or have no clue about wireless..its not as easy as a can opener and you cant just walk away...get real! those should be deleted working with windows 7 64 bit laptops no phones not apple CD does not have everything you need on it, no instructions in box Have to download drivers from HP and do full download.. Read the text file on cd for your security key Add a printer after downloading HP drivers You should have 2 printers in the hardware folder cable and wireless Also you have to switch to the printer in the desktop tray to print then back again I have a router and simple home regular network that most people have My machines are windows 7 but up to date Still took A LOT of tweaking to get it to work.. You dont need the app for wireless unless you want it on a phone.... And you dont need to call support. When setup I didnt find it loses my settings or needs to reboot.. and I can turn it off and on with no issues Overall this printer features are great with what I needed in a printer. size functions and the fact its toner which lasts longer etc..I dont need color and if you do there are color printers for pictures... I have not had this for years, well see if it holds up to the test of time...But then again I'm not abusive with a printer it just has to print even after sitting for a while. I do reccomend if not for wireless taking a lot stress and hassle...

Don’t listen to any review that gives one star because they couldn’t set it up or got scammed by some support tech. Those people will have problems on any electrical device, I bet they can’t even set up a toaster. If you’re the type that wants it hardwired to the computer, there is literally no setup needed because windows and Apple computers will automatically detect and install it for you. Zero setup needed. Although you will want to set up the software for full functionality. I mean come on people this printer is not any different than any other printer when it comes to setting it up. If you’re the type that wants to use this printer wirelessly, good for you, follow these instructions. 1) unbox and plug it into electricity. 2) download HP Smart or the other app mentioned in other reviews or in the instructions. 3) open the app and click the option to add printer. 4) follow instructions the app says, to get the printer online. Since you don’t have a screen to setup the Wi-Fi directly on the printer, you must use the app. Considering that it tells you step by step what to do, it’s hard to get wrong. No need to be a computer person for this. Once the Wi-Fi is setup on the printer then you can discover it on your computer and it will automatically install for you. (Modern computer, modern operating system. If you have a 1995 computer you should buy a new computer before buying a new printer). The only difficulty I had was when using the HP Smart app it would detect every Wi-Fi in my neighborhood except for mine. I just wrapped my phone in 10 layers of aluminum foil exposing the screen, this blocked out every Wi-Fi signal except for mine. It worked as it was supposed to and I was able to follow instructions on the app. As for how the printer works, it works great. It prints like it’s supposed to and scans like it’s supposed to. No print quality issues, no connection issues. Note, I have good Wi-Fi in my house, modern up to date computers. If you can’t discover the printer on your network from the computer, you’ll have to do the same as you would with ANY wireless printer. You have to add the printer by it’s IP address which involves some smarts to find. But again, this is not any different than any other wireless printer. If you can’t do it call the right person not some random Amazon person that doesn’t know what they’re doing and will charge you a bunch for it.

A great printer overall. A few minor hiccups in the beginning but then everything works great. The set up was mostly straightforward but there were some issues with the toner cartridge leaving marks on the paper in the very beginning, even though I shook it according to the instructions. I used this for my work at a customer site to complete a validation and was able to print over 100 pages issue free. Compared to other printers that I have used, I would say this printer is relatively fast. Also, it does make good copies and oversize items can be reduced in size to fit standard paper. The basic version of the software needed to operate the printer was downloaded from the HP website and was easy to find as well as install. Printing seemed immediate and I found it easiest just to use the USB cable and plug it directly into my laptop computer. Other options may be more complicated but like I said, this printer is straightforward once you get it going and is a definite good choice for the price.

I was excited to get my new HP laserjet printer but disappointed to find out it comes with no real instructions other than to download HP's 123 app to get started. I downloaded the app onto my laptop but it struggled right out of the gate. After a couple tries it found my new printer but then got stuck on "Printer Status Unknown". I cycled the printer power several times, as well as the blue wifi button, and finally got to status "Printer Ready". Okay, but it never tried to connect to my wifi. Rather, it was stuck on USB connection which I'm guessing is the printer's default setting. To be clear, I could only print via USB connection and not wifi. I then tried to connect to my wifi myself via the 123 app settings. I navigated to "advanced settings" and then to "networking". There I selected my home's wifi and entered my password but the printer still would not print via wifi. At this point I called HP tech support for help. They quickly pointed out that I did in fact successfully connect the printer to my wifi but for some reason it was refusing to recognize the connection because it (the printer) was stuck on USB connection. At this point HP Tech Support remote accessed my laptop while it was connected to the printer via USB. They fuddled with the 123 app settings for several minutes before deciding that the best solution was to set up the printer twice in my Windows' system settings (i.e. for "printers and scanners"). So now my new HP laserjet exists twice in my Window settings: first as "HP Laserjet - USB" and second as "HP Laserjet - Wireless". As such, I have to select the right version of the printer for each print job depending on whether I want a USB or wireless connection. Sound confusing? Well yes, it is! I've never had to set up a new printer twice simply to use wifi. I can say however that the printer, outside of wifi, works as advertised but I'm still giving it only one star because of the sloppy wifi setup. Come on HP, it's 2022! Most new devices these days connect to wifi flawlessly in less than a minute.

My previous color inkjet printer saw infrequent use and seemed to require endless head cleaning and other maintenance. The HP LaserJet Pro M29w Wireless All-in-One Laser Printer (Y5S53A) is a tremendous improvement. I have an iMac (OS 10.14.5, the most current version) and found printer setup to be quick, easy and painless. My computer skills are above average but below geek (well below). Priot to unpacking the printer, I downloaded the "HP Easy Start” app (123.hp.com/laserjet). To install the printer, all I needed to do was turn the power button on (I found it unnecessary to even use the USB cable), open the HP Easy Start app and follow the prompts. The app automatically downloaded and installed the necessary software to my computer. It also automatically connected to my wireless network (no IP address, password or any configuration on my part was needed). From start to finish only took 30 minutes or so. The most serious problem I encountered was checking the correct pictures on the “I am not a robot” screen. I then test printed a copy as well as a scan to my desktop without any issues. The printer is relatively quiet, has a very small footprint (only 10” deep X 14” wide) and seems sturdy enough to last for a number of years. I am completely satisfied with my purchase and recommend it for simplicity of setup and ease of use. I also downloaded the "HP Smart” app for my iPhone. This also worked the first time and painlessly.
