It has been 25 years since I last wore any type of underpants. What started as a habit of necessity as a young lieutenant in a light infantry battalion extended for many years into my corporate life as a business executive. As a grunt, tight whiteys didn't make the cut of essentials that would earn a prized space in my rucksack. Plus undergarments only made the wet and uncomfortable life of an infantryman only wetter and more uncomfortable. After 25 years of commando style freedom, my son, thoroughly turned off by his father's underwearless proclivities, sprung for a pair of Fruit of the Loom Men's Breathable Boxer Briefs for his old man. I'm amazed at how underwear has evolved since the tighty whitey days of yore. For one, they are no longer whitey as the product images attest. While the only portion occassionally visible with lower riding pants or shorts is the stately black wasteband, it belies a rainbow array of colors that one can glimpse when bending low or reaching high. And comfort, oh comfort! Gone is the rigid elastic band that digs into your hips leaving a fleshy racetrack around the waist by day's end. Gone is the bolt of cotton slowly forming up the buttcrack as "Tighty" migrates north with every movement of the lower extremities. Gone is the cotton! The dreaded cotton! The never drying, unbreathable, crotch frying pan cotton! The "Looms" hold their ground. They stay in their place. They cushion the boys with a lightweight, plyable, cool, forgiving mesh, whose wasteband feels delightfully undetectable when worn. I lament that 20 year old me had to wait 26 years for this moment. Yet I am buoyed by the evolution of underwear (which is emblematic of our progress as a species). I am a converted commando! Thank you son, and thank you Fruit of the Loom!

I’ve tried all kinds of brands Under Armor, Duluth Trading Company, Jockey, BearSkin, and a lot of others. As a chubby set man of 5’7 240lbs this is the best underwear I’ve ever owned. It prevents all chafing, and I don’t get uncomfortable rashes. No more chub rub for this guy!! Excellent undies!

My dresser has virtually every type of underwear you can think of, including none at all but this is the first time I’ve bought any that are called breathable. Isn’t all fabric breathable? I was intrigued because where I live it gets incredibly hot and then we have a couple of months of high humidity as well. I don’t have to go into detail why some underwear can get uncomfortable to wear. So for those days I decided I’d give these a try. After all they are from one of the most trusted name in underwear, Fruit of the Loom, so they might be worth considering. They are styled like most briefs, nothing new or unique about the shape and cut. The part that guys have a special concern about is roomy but not constricting, in other words it does its job just fine. The overall fit is just right, no droopiness, riding up or constriction. It’s the fabric that’s the big news here. Up close it is completely different from typical briefs, I would call it perforated. It is at least twice as thick as normal briefs. Skipping past the boring details I can say that it works even on the hottest muggiest days it truly does breathe and minimize sweatiness. For that reason I have a new favorite with these. Beyond that I also like the contemporary color choices available, more stylish and upbeat. And finally the price, they are not much more than ordinary briefs, so if they look better, fit well and keep me cool I say why not?

My boyfriend has hidradenitis suppurativa, which is boils around your lymph nodes: Arm pits, groin, inner thighs, under your butt cheek areas, etc. He gets them in his inner thighs, under his butt cheeks, his back, arm pits, sometimes his neck. That being said, he will now only wear this underwear. With his condition, most underwear has a tendency to stick to drying blood and if you sit down all day, as he does, when he does have to get up, he has to peel off his underwear from his sores, which doesn't allow them to heal whatsoever. These, however, don't stick. They allow his sores to heal properly and him not feel so self conscious.
