This Hamilton Beach electric can opener is great! I have tried a bunch of different can openers hoping to NOT have one sitting on the counter with a plug. However, since all the others quickly failed, I gave in and ordered this one. I am so glad that I have this one that I don't have to turn with my arthritic hands, or replace batteries only to find out they work "sometimes". It's important to be able to depend on a can opener working when you are in the middle of making a meal! It is much easier to put this can opener away (if you want to) because it's light and has a lift handle. It works quick, easy and every time! The cord does retract fully but I leave mine out just the amount I need to reach the outlet. It's more expensive than I wanted to spend, but I am fully confident it will be with me for a long time to come. The scizzors in the back are an added bonus. I highly recommend this can opener for quality, weight, sturdiness and ease of use.

i had this can opener for 6 years. this is the best of the best of can openers. You wont go wrong with this purchase. Tall cans, small cans, large cans. it opens them all, and No Sharp Edges to cut you. at first you think it didn't open the can, Wrong, look again. the seam is on the side of the lid, pry it open with your finger, it comes right off. Finally had to order me another this month, hope i never have to buy another brand.

just used my new can opener. I love it already. I have always had really good thoughts about all the Hamilton Beach can openers I have owned over the years. This one is Top Notch, A number 1. easy to set can into place for opening, start process is so simple and the cutting of the can, just so easy. It is easy to work, quite, and easy to stop cutting. can't say enough about how GREAT it is. My only problem is remembering where the can opening process began, so I don't waste time trying to cut the can, where its ALREADY cut! there is a slight change in the sound of the process, so listen for it! One of my BEST EVER purchases!

I bought this can opener in January and after almost two months I can safely say I love it. It doesn't take up a lot of counterspace, it's easy to operate and it very much lives up to the smooth edge moniker. I use mine every day since it makes it a lot easier and safer to open cans of wet catfood. The unit itself is made of plastic but it's very sturdy and well-designed for sitting on a countertop. It can also handle many different sizes and types of cans. I even use mine for opening cans with pull tabs because even those can sometimes leave sharp edges that can cut you. Another thing I like about this can opener is that it opens the can in such a way that you can still use the lid, say if you only needed half the can's contents and wanted to store the rest for later, as the lid will fit back into place quite securely. If you're looking for an electric can opener that's easy to use, doesn't take up much space and won't leave you struggling with sharp edges on the lids, then this might be a worthwhile addition to your kitchen.

I sincerely love my buggy-whips, but Yes, Virginia, There really is a better can opener. How so? One, no more cutting yourself - ever. Two, the lid never drops into the can and has to be fished out. Three, the smooth cut top makes a 100% perfect lid - no more drawer of plastic lids to clean or store. If you ever tried the smooth cut manual opener & weren't impressed - I completely agree - unusable. BUT for a countertop electric workhorse... this is superior in (almost) every way to any sharp-edge style opener. I'm as contrarian as it comes, but sometimes new and improves... really is :-) BUT - It's 4-stars, not 5-stars, because of one thing: You HAVE to hold the top lock down as the can turns - you cannot push down & walk away. I don't know if that's just this model, or a limit of the smooth opening design, but I'm used to pushing down and walking away as the can turns - then shuts off when it is open. Meh - can't have it all.

After the thing I was fighting...this opener is wonderful! The can opener is sort of Murphy proofed. You can't screw it up. The really cool thing is the lids are not a danger and neither is the can. The opener dulls both as it opens. Also another cool aspect is...remember pushing the opened lid down into the contents so you can get hold of the lid to remove it? You don't do that with this opener. It does not cut the lid from the top...it takes it off from the side of the can. It is a clean opener. All the hardware for cutting is exposed for inspection and cleaning if needed. I love it. Great designers. They deserve a big hand.
