This is a great quality can opener. I have issues with my hands and I had previously purchased electric can openers which broke very quickly. I know Hamilton Beach makes a great quality product, so I decided to try this can opener. It works very, very well. When the can is opened, there are no sharp edges, which makes it a very safe product. I can press the opener down with the heel of my hand, and that makes it easy to use. As a bonus, it came with a very sharp pair of scissors which sits in a pocket in the back of the can opener, making it very handy and convenient. All in all, a wonderful quality product.

My old smooth edge can opener died, & I decided to get this one. It works very well. I don’t have any trouble getting the can placed in the correct position to cut. The can opener cuts cleanly & well. The sound changes when it has finished cutting. A time or two it hasn’t opened the can completely, so I just let go around again. It is much easier to use than my old one. I don’t regret buying it. I like having the scissors handy in the back & they cut pretty good, too.

I want to preface this review by saying that I have never liked electric can openers and even refused to have one in my kitchen; I much preferred the non-electric hand turned ones. However, as I have gotten older and the arthritis has become increasingly painful in my hands, it has become sufficiently difficult and almost impossible for me to operate the old style hand crank can openers. So like it or not, I had to get an electric one. I evaluated multiple options, read multiple reviews, and watched multiple videos finally deciding on this one which I might add, I found most impressive. I did not want a battery operated model which either required batteries or needed to be recharged. I especially liked the fact that the cut was made under the rim on the outside and not inside thereby eliminating any sharp edges. I finally hit the purchase button and bought this Hamilton Beach model. The can opener is tall enough to accommodate taller cans yet easily fits underneath the counter. It is attractive, sleek, streamlined and easily cleaned. The scissors tucked in the back are an added bonus. The cord is relatively short but long enough to plug in where I use it. The can fits smoothly and efficiently under the blade, and the lever is easily operated with one hand. There are no sharp edges on the can lid after being cut open. On my first use I had a bit of trouble knowing when the can had been completely cut as I noticed no change in the sound emitted by the can opener and since the cut is on the outside not the top it is difficult to see the cut. That is certainly not problematic, and I am sure it is something that I will adjust to with time. This can opener works extremely well and is a dream to use. I would be wrong to not admit how much I have enjoyed using it and how much my hands appreciate it. I highly recommend it to anyone who has any misgivings at all about electric can openers. Top 3 Likes: -Relatively compact and quiet yet sturdy and functional as described -Cut on the side is quite wonderful -Easily handles small, standard, or large cans with ease Top 3 Dislikes: -At first it was difficult to tell if the cut is complete -The side cut is so indiscreet that I have to get a knife to lift the cut lid off of the can -No longer can I put the lid down inside the can, it will not fit with the side cut

I sincerely love my buggy-whips, but Yes, Virginia, There really is a better can opener. How so? One, no more cutting yourself - ever. Two, the lid never drops into the can and has to be fished out. Three, the smooth cut top makes a 100% perfect lid - no more drawer of plastic lids to clean or store. If you ever tried the smooth cut manual opener & weren't impressed - I completely agree - unusable. BUT for a countertop electric workhorse... this is superior in (almost) every way to any sharp-edge style opener. I'm as contrarian as it comes, but sometimes new and improves... really is :-) BUT - It's 4-stars, not 5-stars, because of one thing: You HAVE to hold the top lock down as the can turns - you cannot push down & walk away. I don't know if that's just this model, or a limit of the smooth opening design, but I'm used to pushing down and walking away as the can turns - then shuts off when it is open. Meh - can't have it all.

Great Product for the Elderly! My mom was having trouble opening cans. This is perfect it doesn't pop off making a mess. You lift the lever to take can off and then the top lifts off. No sharp edges. The first one for some reason or another didn't work so we were concerned but liked it and the price better then anything else we asked for a replacement. Love it, no problems at all. Glad we re ordered it. Love the Colors goes well in our kitchen.

We’ve gone through so many can openers that either don’t work or break in a short period of time. This seems to be a quality built can opener, and was a fair price too. The safe edge is nice and it’s a good looking appliance.
