We bought this exact model about 8 years ago or maybe a bit more. A few weeks ago it quit opening cans. The motor would run but it just wouldn't spin the can to open it. We decided to replace it with another one. If this one lasts just as long, then 8 years for a $25 can opener is well worth it.

Because it has 2 prongs that fit on top of the can, it will not open small cans like tomato paste. My old one only had 1 metal prong. That was the only issue I have with this item.

UPDATE!!! WE BROKE UP!!! I broke up with this cute can opener! I have to stop choosing by looks. It turns out this cheeky bugger was quite unsubstantial and very flimsy! The first thicker can I introduced to it bent it out of shape and our relationship was never the same! So....I kicked it to the curb (trash bin)!!! This came at the worst time in my life! I fell and broke my wrist so I could only use 1 hand! Have you ever tried to open a can with a cheap crank manual can opener that your daughter had broken up with with one hand?! Correct! Like mother, like daughter... we can sure pick um! I wish I took a picture of the hot mess it left behind! So my real life partner had to run to Walmart after coming home from work and found me a rather plain looking replacement for my former cutie pie. Here's a good feature for your practical replacement to posess... auto stop. It knows when to stop! A good trait. We're still together. My deepest and most sincere apology for spreaking too quickly about the first loser as I saw that 12 people found my review helpful and probably hooked up with the cutie patootie. HERE'S OUR ORIGINAL HONEYMOON PHASE: I swore I would never buy another electric can opener because I had purchased a Cutco knife set and it came with one - Cutco makes the best manual can opener but I needed to send it in for servicing (lifetime warranty) so I purchased this very cute Cuisinart electric one. I was pleasantly surprised after the first can opened because I like to rinse the blade with hot water immediately after and I simply slipped it off and voila - task done! We use 28 oz cans of crushed tomatoes and tomato for pasta sauce, and this Cuisinart can opener opens them easily. For many, mant years we had an under-counter electric opener that needed to be babied to work. The Cuisinart is SO EASY to use in comparison. Although the Cuisinart takes up counter space, it is easy to move around and sturdy on it's base, so we can push it to the back and move it forward when needed. ... show more
