Anytime I'm staring at an amazon query of 20+ pages of comparable kitchen items, my preferred mid-cost brands are kitchenaid and cuisinart. By midcost, I am referring to the general set of affordable kitchen utensils that would need to be replaced within 3-5 years, but usually no sooner. For a can opener that at most will see use a few times a day, I am not interested in spending more than how much KitchenAid charges for this one. The handles are grippy enough while being durable to withstand wear. The metal/gears look as clean and strong as the day I bought it. The red accents are machined well. I like the inclusion of a bottle opener, and its location is optimal for leverage given how you would naturally hold the opener. For this price, I usually set my expectation that it will need to be replaced by the time I need to move apartments/to a new city. While I can't personally claim mine has lasted longer than this, the fact I can't tell just from looking at mine that I've had it for over two years testifies you probably won't need anything more expensive except in industrial kitchens.

After only owning this can opener 2 years that I dont use 365 times per year it just stopped spinning. Kitchen Aide used to be a brand that stood for quality my mom has a mixer she was gifted in the 90s that still works she loves to bake and is used often. Bring back manufacturing to the USA people scream but no one is going to fork out the money for products made here we've been brainwashed to think cheap is good. I hope you read this review and save those $20 a few times and just get a quality can opener you buy once that's going to be so good it'll be a heirloom in your family for years to come. Not end up in a landfill after 6 months.

In the last few months I had tossed two other brands of manual can openers! They worked for a bit but quickly began to fail. Fail like you have to go 1/8" by 1/8" on the lid and squeeze the handles together to cut the lid bit by bit! REALLY!?! These are bad-ass! Love 'em!! They are substantial in your hand, open a can with sheer ease, and have rebuild my confidence in manual openers! Get this one! You'll dig it!!

I’m honestly very picky when it comes to these can openers because of the bad experiences I’ve had from the ones my mother had in her home! They would easily break and hurt to even use. But This thing is incredible. Clamp on to the can and twist. Doesn’t hurt your hand, doesn’t take forever to open a can! It does it’s job amazingly. I recommend for those who are tired of using those cheap and breakable ones, I know we’ve all been there.

When me and my wife got our house, we had a generic steel can opener. It worked okay for awhile but was never great - but, eh, electric can openers were a hassle. Eventually the manual can opener was just dreadful; I couldn't twist it without straining a muscle. This thing is incredible. Clamp on to the can and twist. It's easier than twisting the cap off a bottle of soda - no longer am I straining and grunting to open a can and wondering if the better tool would be a butter knife! I was so impressed I grabbed a can, called my wife in the room, had her try it, and we both gushed about how awesome it was.

I bought this because I thought it had a lifetime warranty. Now I returned and it only gives a 1 year warranty so I'm not happy. Going to look for a lifetime REAL warranty. Kitchenaid is going to warranty it, but I need to pay to send it in. If they end up paying for me to send it in I will probably give 5 stars. Wanted to let you know that and raise it from 2 to 4 stars and maybe 5 if they replace it. The fact still stands that it broke after 1.3 years. I really want more "intentional" items that won't fill the landfill. But maybe their replacement will be better. We will see

The KitchenAid Soft Classic Multifunction Can Opener is by far the best can opener I have owned. No more going over your metal can lid multiple times, cursing your weak fingers. The can opener cuts metal lids easily and smoothly. As with all can openers, I would recommend wiping the blades thoroughly after each use to prevent rusting. I'm hoping this is the last can opener I have to buy.

Not a lot to say about this, other than it is very well made, easy to open cans, unlike some of the cheaper ones I have tried. I am sure if I take care of it well it will last me a long time. My previous one made it to 9 years with all the abuse of teenagers
