Easy to assemble (although it helps if you have two people). Love the option to fill the base with water instead of sand so you can easily drain and reposition it if needed. Really sturdy and heavy once filled. The umbrella does sway with even a minor breeze, but still seems sturdy. Overall a nice addition to our deck and much more affordable than cantilever umbrellas we saw in stores.

Just put mine together a couple days ago, so can't say much about longevity. The whole thing is very well built and quite sturdy. All the parts fit together perfectly, including the bolts. Longest part of the installation was filling the base with four bags of sand. The water was easy. I was surprised that while the umbrella doesn't pivot horizontally, with two people you can move the base without killing yourself. Compared to other similar umbrellas, this is really a good value for the price.

First there is a conflict in the base weight recommendation between the Amazon summary and included instruction booklet. The booklet calls for 264# of an unspecified combination of sand and water. The Amazon summary calls for 330# of sand and 44# of water. I contacted Grand Patio, and they said to use Amazon recommendation. I opted for sand only since the base will be out in a CT winter and managed to get 290# of sand through the two smallish ports by tipping up the base to get the sand to the front until it was too heavy to lift. Moving the base afterwards is at least a two-person job. Take your best guess on placement before filling because this unit does not rotate. Assembly was straightforward and the diagrammatic instructions were easy to follow. The metal components are of substantial thickness and look to be capable of lasting many years. The Sunbrella fabric blocks 98% of UV which is a key feature. I had bought a cover, but it turned out to be unnecessary since one was included in the box, so back it went. If you are not a tall drink of water, a ladder is required to put on the cover. All in all, I am pleased with the purchase. I will be tracking the sun and fine tuning the placement of the base to provide the best compromise between morning and afternoon sun.

Pros: the construction of the umbrella is excellent. Solid choice of materials and solid build quality. Instructions and assembly are a no-brainer. Cons: this umbrella is only suitable in areas protected from the wind - courtyards and protected patios for example. It is a POOR choice for locations exposed to the wind. The picture showing the umbrella on a patio overlooking the ocean is misleading. Wind speed under 5mph and the umbrella does fine. Between 5 and 10mph and the umbrella is swinging around which makes sitting under it uncomfortable - i have no clue which way it will swing next. Above 10mph and it is straining to break away. The base is loaded with 270 lbs of sand and water and along with the arm, remains firmly in place. I threw out the boxes so a return is not an option, plus I have no idea how I would empty the sand and water from the base.

This is a beautiful addition to our backyard. Great material. Lots of shade four our outside seating area. And we had an issue with the product as the wrong color was sent for the canopy and they were on top of it. Helped us get the right color and were total professionals about it.
