A Real Upgrade for Getting More Precise With Pour-Over Coffee

I ordered the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro to up my game with pour-over coffee, and it has worked perfectly for me. I originally thought I could be perfectly happy using my regular electric kettle with a standard spout, but after learning more about pour-overs, I realized this is where a gooseneck kettle really makes a difference. Once you start paying attention to precise weights, timing, and pour rates, the control you get from the gooseneck helps you dial everything in much more consistently. The kettle is easy to use, and I especially like being able to switch the temperature display between Fahrenheit and Celsius. Since I started roasting my coffee using Celsius, it makes things easier to keep all of my coffee temperatures in the same metric. Another feature I really appreciate is the temperature hold. Since pour-overs involve timed pauses between pours, I can set the kettle back on the base while I wait and it maintains the proper temperature instead of letting the water steadily cool while I’m brewing. As a side note, I’ve also used it to heat water for couscous, so it has turned out to be useful for more than just coffee. This was definitely an upgrade from my regular electric kettle, and for someone who enjoys getting more precise with pour-over coffee, the temperature control and gooseneck pour really do make a difference. ... show more

Sexy from the Outside, plastic from the Inside

To the self proclaimed 'product manager' that designed this product I really hope you know about the KISS concept. If you don't let me spell it for you: Keep it Simple Stupid. These are my observations its hard to set up, I pour water and I switch the knob for temperature which is cool, but I have no idea if this thing is running or not, no indication whatsoever and I really don't want to wait for the temperature to start going up to know that this thing is running. The second really bad thing is that this has plastic inside. Returning this today, again don't over complicate things its just a water boiler and STOP using plastic in a water heater. ... show more

As good as brewista

Coming from a Brewista, I was hesitant to try another kettle. My wife really wanted something different so we went with this one. It’s good. I would say between this and the brewista the performance is similar. The main difference being the aesthetic. I’ve seen some mention of the buttons etc. I don’t believe either device is complicated enough to be trouble for anyone with the ability to read. Only draw back to this kettle is placing it back on the heating element takes some getting used to. It’s seemingly lower than the middle of the platform and quite literally almost hugging the knob. If I come back and edit this review it’s because it didn’t hold up like the brewista. So far I would recommend it. ... show more

Read all review (positive ones & negative ones) and decided to give it a try. Use it for 2 days, previously I was a bit worried about negative reviews but at this point I think it's generally good and I'll keep it. It's overall beautiful and sturdy, below are negative reviews that I was concerned, and how I feel with my personal experiences. 1. spills & water flow: These is the biggest point that I was worried, since I saw several reviews regarding it and it's the main function of a kettle. After I tried it, it's not bad at all - I filled the kettle to "max", and boiled to the highest temperature, and it didn't spill anything onto my countertop. Also the flow is not too slow to me and it's pretty easy to control, exactly what I need for pour-over coffee. Even for tea or pure hot water, I personally have no complaint about it. 2. silent beep notification This is totally true, the beep is really really low volume comparing to all other my elec utilities (microwave / oven/previous kettle....). For sure I can hear it if it's midnight and I'm within 3m around the kitchen, but definitely not during daytime / with music or video on / a bit far from the kitchen. I think I can accept this since for most of time I'm around it while boiling the water. 3. Smells It does come with a strong plastic smell, and to my own experience this is the most obvious con I noticed. I understand it's new while I always concerns about the strong chemical /plastic smells. so I washed it thoroughly and will give it about 1 week to see if the small go away. In summary : Pros: *Beautiful & elegant appearance *easy to use *precise temp control *precise flow control *stainless steel interior with no coat at all, feels high-quality in general. Cons: * Strong smell as a new item. * Very expensive as a kettle at this level, and might be a bit over-priced * Silent notification even turned the volume to maximum, you can barely hear it. ... show more
