Works great. It goes from 104⁰ to 212⁰ in 1⁰ increments. It's a little bit of a pain to go through 108⁰ one at a time (it's 25 twists to go from garlic water at 104⁰ to tea at 212⁰), so it's technically easier to have a cheap kettle for the 212⁰ and this kettle for the specific temperature you need, but it's fine either way. It has an indicator that tells you the current temperature of the water as it starts and heats up. It seems pretty durable.

Style: Adjustable Temperature Kettle
Based on the pictures I saw of the kettle online, I thought it could be too big, but it's actually not bad at all (see the pic with a hand-size comparison). The kettle is not too bulky, is going to look great with my coffee bar, is slightly heavy holding one handed, but totally worth the purchase. I've used the kettle everyday for the last week (since it arrived) and I've had no problems with it. I like that the temperature I set it on (for my daily french press) is remembered every time I turn it on, so I don't have to reset it. The outside of the kettle gets foggy after use (as you can see in the pics), but it goes away if you leave the lid open for a few minutes). The only con I have found for this kettle is that inside of the kettle is a rim that catches exiting water when you're rinsing it out; I would prefer the kettle is be sleek inside so that any water put in easily comes out and does not catch on an internal ridge/rim/divet (see the pics I uploaded- I'm pointing to the rim and in the other you can see water building up/held by the rim when kettle is overturned). The first time I heated up the kettle, it took around 8 minutes to get to 200 degrees, but every time thereafter it was only 1-3 minutes. The glass and bottom silver rim do get hot to the touch, but the remaining structures no so much and the kettle base (that's plugged into the wall) is cool to the touch. I absolutely love this product and am so happy I did my research and purchased it!

Style: Adjustable Temperature Kettle
Update July 2023: this thing finally broke and it was all my fault. In a heated moment, the kettle got slammed down on its base too hard (I mean stupid hard) and it wouldn't make regular electrical contact. After repairing it myself (bad idea, but like I said before, I love this thing and I'm a tinkerer at heart) and recognizing my repair was slowly becoming a fire risk (totally my fault for an unauthorized sketchy and desperate homebrew repair), I replaced it with the same model in January 2021 without a second thought. No regrets - It's been going strong for the 2.5 years since! I still use it daily to boil probably a cumulative 2 gallons for tea and other things like speed-starting pasta and oatmeal with already-boiling water since this thing is so fast. At work for about 4 years we have had another popular temperature controlled tea kettle (brand name begins with C and ends in art) with push buttons for different temperatures and the print on the buttons has eroded. It's annoying because it beeps at you all the time. The C-art kettle broke this week (for the curious: the heating element somehow burned out according to a DMM) and it reminded me how much I love this kettle, so I'll probably be buying a third one of these to replace the work kettle. Original review: Use: I bought this kettle in June 2019, and have used it many times daily excepting only vacations. Me: Daily tea drinker - oolongs, green, white, Earl grey, you name it. All these teas require very different temperatures to brew in a tasty fashion. If the temperature is off, my expensive and usually tasty tea tastes like donkey doodoo and I'm grumpy and that sucks. I've put this kettle through its paces in 9 months. Pros: - heats water to 1°F increments over 170°-212° range (do your own Celsius conversions, I drink my tea in Imperial units). I don't have a calibrated thermometer, but it must be accurate enough for my tea because it's always tasty. - looks awesome: smooth surfaces and minimal design mean it's stupid easy to keep clean. And I'm a slob, so that's a miracle. - durable: I'm not gentle to devices. I don't take caution about using warm water in the kettle to avoid thermal shock on the glass and it hasn't cracked or even creaked for that matter. Cold water in hot kettle? You bet, all the time. - Fast: most of the time I start the kettle and run off to do another task - and when I'm done brushing my teeth it's done making my water hot. Awesome. Cons: - bottom temperature is only 170°F: doesn't really matter for most kettle purposes but there's been a time I wanted to have "warm" water to shortcut some baking recipes. This is only a very mild disappointment. - like someone else mentioned in their review, there was a silicone smell/taste at first. I got real nervous about having silicone flavored water coming out of my most expensive hot water maker to date, but it went away after a week or two of daily use. Haven't had it since, water tastes only like water. Summary: this kettle is totally worth the cash if you use a device like this all the time. I beat myself up with guilt for a couple weeks for covering such an expensive appliance that does such a basic thing, but if your water temperature matters then this kettle is awesome. And it classes-up my countertop with it's excellent design. If this one breaks I'll just buy another one like it, but it's still going strong after 9ish months of daily beatings. My work has one of those fancy Cuisinart temperature-select push button water kettles at work and this one is way better in both performance, reliability, and design. I basically hate Amazon but after using my kettle this morning for the thirteenthousand time, figured it had earned a positive review on this awful platform anyway. Hope that helps someone!

I'm lucky I noticed it boiling out of control before I walked away from it and left it alone to catch fire. > Original Review I'll preface this by saying I don't have the greatest qualifications to review electric kettles. I'm not a big tea drinker, and I've never owned a kettle like this before, so I can't really compare it to other products on the market. I based my purchase on reading positive reviews prior to ordering. The good: * It's easy to use. Temperature controls work well and are basic but pretty intuitive. * It seems to heat up quickly (although I don't have a lot of experience with other kettles to compare). * Makes a lot of hot water (assuming you want that). The not so good (?): * It's big. Like, I have no idea what people make this much hot water for big. In retrospect, I probably didn't need anything nearly this large. I can make two mugs of tea and use barely a third of the capacity. The downside is it takes up more counter space than we're really getting out of it. This could be a selling point if you actually know you want to heat a ton of water regularly, but it's overkill for a basic cup of tea now and then. * I have no idea how you're supposed to clean it. Seriously. It's not supposed to be immersed in water, so you can't dishwasher it or anything automatic. With coffee pots you can just stick your hand inside and use a dish rag, but the shape of this kettle is super awkward. The top cover is permanently affixed as far as i can tell, so you can't really get a hand inside past the opening to clean anything. The only option seems to be to spray water in it and rinse it and hope it gets clean? * Speaking of the super awkward top design, it's surprisingly hard to dry out too. The top portion above the glass is a collar that indents, which means it catches water before it reaches the spout. It's not a problem for filling a cup, but it doesn't let the last of the water drain out when you're done. Compounding things, the fixed lid only has the filler piece that pops open, so to rest the thing upside-down to drain and air out you have to try to prop the entire weight of the kettle on the little plastic lid door, which I'm afraid is eventually going to break it.

I have two requirements for an electric kettle: * Easy to see water level * Adjustable temperature Just meeting these requirements seems to put this kettle in a rare and exclusive class. I've been using this kettle at work almost every day for the last two years. Let me say first that I am happy with it. The glass is nice, the form factor is good, the size is good, it heats up quickly, and the temperature adjustment is good. Now the bad stuff. * Most disappointedly, the top does not open large enough to actually get your hand in there to scrub it clean, if necessary. While a vinegar solution will take care of most hard water deposits, there are some contaminant build ups that you really just want to scrub clean. I don't think I have particularly large hands, but, there's no way I could get my hand in there with a sponge without losing some flesh. * The lid-opening assembly has started to come apart. I can still get the lid open; but, barely. I'm not sure how much longer it will last. I would have been happier with a friction-fit lid or some sort of screw-open top. The spring-loaded lid is over-complicated and disintegrating. * The temperature adjustment button could be better. Many devices support a mode where, if you turn the nob faster, the temperature changes faster. Not this nob. One click equals one degree. Can be a pain to go from 175 to 203 when you're switching from green to black tea. Looking for the perfect kettle? It's the Kitchen-Aid. It's pricy, but it's basically perfect. Have it at home and I love it. If you want a nice kettle but can't quite afford the Kitchen-Aid, the OXO is alright.

I have been using this kettle for about 2 weeks and so far, I absolutely love it. As an avid tea and coffee drinker now in healthcare professional school, I use it at least twice daily, usually more. I love the quality of OXO products, and was very excited about this kettle in particular because of the variable temperature feature to make different teas at the optimal temperature. Overall, I find this kettle easy to pick up and fill with water d/t the large handle with a soft grip. It has a huge capacity, and I love the fact that there is a temperature guide on the base for whatever kind of tea/coffee you're making. It's also really pretty on my counter. :) I have read some reviews concerning the slow pour and yes - it is slow at first. I don't consider this to be a design flaw, but rather a safety mechanism to ensure that you don't splatter yourself with boiling or near-boiling water. Does it take some getting used to compared to kettles with a faster pour? Absolutely. But as someone with a busy schedule who uses this multiple times per day, I would not say it's a deal breaker. Re: the inability to get every single drop of water from the kettle - this is an issue for every electric and stovetop kettle I've ever used, so I've come to expect it. It's not that much water, and I usually even leave water in my kettle so when I'm a zombie in the morning and every motion I take requires extra effort, I'm one step closer to my life force AKA caffeine. There does appear to be some mineral build-up on the bottom of the kettle already (I use regular ol' tap), but again, I would expect this with any electric kettle I use, considering how often I use them. It might be appearing a bit earlier than other kettles on the market, but I think given the quality and large capacity and features of this machine, it's worth it.

Update after 2.5 years of use: my review holds strong. I still use this daily and have bought 2 more for when I make tea at my parents' house and my work office. This kettle is my favorite, beating the small capacity of goosenecks and with an incredibly simple interface. --- I've been using this kettle for just over 8 months now and I still love using it. I use it for brewing all my tea, and even just heating up hot water to drink (yes, that's a Chinese thing to do). I used to have a 6 temp kettle that broke so I finally wanted one where I could set the exact temp I want. This kettle is super easy to use! Press the knob once to wake it up, rotate to the temperature you want, then press again to start. Press it again to turn it off, or it'll maintain the desired temp for 30 minutes (sometimes I get distracted by work and forget to make my tea ^^'). It's also nice and large so I don't have to go back and forth to the sink often (I leave it in my room for frequent tea brewing throughout the day). The description says 170-212, but you can set it lower too. I do somewhere in 140-160 range for simply drinking hot water -- that's a little hotter than the hottest point I feel comfortable drinking at. I've brought it on multiple trips and my friends and family have also enjoyed using it. Pro-tip: water boils at a lower temp at higher elevation, so you won't reach 212 xD I've had some small inconvenience of setting it to 205, but it would appear to stop at 203. Maybe I'm just being impatient and it's slowing down to get the temperature precise.

Style: Adjustable Temperature Kettle
I have to admit to being a bit disappointed in this product, but not for the reasons one would think. First, the instructions for using it are wanting. Please don't assume that people manhandle new merchandise. A little sticker that says PEEL ME where the controls are would have been nice. I kept trying to find the controls as there was a fake looking control cover on the device, obstructing my view of the LED controls. Ok. I tend to be a bit stupid when it comes to opening things. I hate to destroy things, which I tend to do, unwittingly. So, like the plastic bag that says, "Don't put this over your head..." do that for revealing which parts of a product can be defaced and which are supposed to stay. For years I used a Bodum electric kettle, like before it became commonplace. I lived in England for a year where I saw that's they use, and I liked the idea of not burning the gas and forgetting about that (that's what Alexa is for me now, thank God). Anyway, I liked my Bodum kettle. A lot. t heated up quickly (in the UK it boils within seconds as they have more juice in their power outlets--No, We're not #1, Americans). But it started flickering and not turning off properly after about 6 or 7 years use, so it died a natural death. So why did I switch to this new-fangled OXO on CORDLESS GLASS ADJUSTABLE TERMPERATURE? Because it's different-looking. And it looks space-age, and yes, I got suckered by the 5 stars. And of course, if it's $99 it must be really, really, super-duper. So, why do I regret the purchase? Because the water looks really dingy looking and I didn't have to see that in my other Bodum kettle. I think I expected the water to look blue, like in the movies. LOL So, I see the water and it looks so plain. That's cosmetics. What's the real reason? Because the water doesn't pour out fast enough. It has a safe-splash opening that allows the water to spill out cautiously. Well, I don't like that. I'm an adult. I can get splashed by some hot water here and there. Why does this make a difference? Because when I use tea bags, I like to pour the water from a higher distance to pound the flavor out of the tea bag. I learned this in a Lebanese restaurant. It's not just for show. The force of the water pressure on the tea bag actually brings the flavor out much more quickly than letting it sit forever. So, my tea doesn't taste the same anymore. I'll live with it, however, as penance for being so stupid to be sold that something more expensive is better. I'm working with the kettle trying to figure out how to allow the water to come out as quickly as I did with my Bodum kettle. So, basically, my life is ruined, but like a flagellant, I'll allow myself to suffer from my vanity. Do I like anything about this? Yes. I like that I can see the temperature gauge as it gets hotter. That's pretty cool. And it stays hot for about 30 minutes at the same temperature. And it is hotter than my Bodum. My mother and I did a hot taste. Mind you, I like my tea really hot. So, you really do get boiled water from it. So it's good. I would give this 3.5 stars, or even four, but I think for real afficionados, I'll get your attention so if you're weird like me, you'll at least think about these things. I like OXO products, overall. This is my first OXO appliance.
