  • Awesome combination!
Style: NEMA 14-50 Plug J1772 (WH)
The Emporia Pro charger came highly recommended as a Level 2 charger and did not disappoint! The charger itself is lightweight and easily installs into drywall; finding a stud was not needed. If you already have a NEMA 14-50 outlet installed, installation is plug-and-play. Once installed, the QR code guides you through the app setup process. The charge cord for your EV is generous in length, allowing flexibility in parking. The app is easy to set up, and your charge is fully adjustable within it. This kit comes with the Vue home monitoring kit. If you have an electrician running you a new circuit, let him install the Vue in your panel. If you are DIY and handy with electricity, installation is simple, but you will be working with dangerous panel feeds, so if not, let the electrician handle it. Once the Vue is set up and connected to Wi-Fi, it monitors your power usage, and the Emporia and Vue work together to charge your EV. While the Vue monitors your power usage, the Emporia Pro ramps charge rate up and down to give you the maximum charge rate, without the risk of blowing breakers, a fantastic feature if your panel is maxed out like mine. On a bonus note, installing the Vue has helped me track down an appliance that is spiking my electric bill, and it is expandable from simply your feed lines to whole-house monitoring with optional clamps. Buying this combination was a win-win for me, it allows me to charge my new EV through my crowded panel, and helps monitor usage to keep my electric bill down. ... show more

  • Great product, happy charging!
This worked flawlessly! Installation was easy. Very nice detailed instructions. I appreciated the included ltnm conduit came with the 3/4" adapter. Very good software. It looks up your available utility information based on your location & utility to see available rates per kwh. Gives you an accurate live cost of charging with nice graphing. All materials and wiring seem to be of high quality. The charger also automatically schedules itself based upon the cheapest rate from the utility. My utility offers cheapest charging from 11pm to 6am. After selecting that I was in this new EV charge program from the utility, the scheduler automatically configured itself to turn off charging at 6am. As a product electrical engineer I appreciated the pcba assembly and inductive current sensing layout. A really good product that I would recommend to a friend or family member. This pro model comes with the Emporia power monitor as well. I ended up opting for a service upgrade so we can do other home reno projects which our limited service and panel were preventing. But, I do think I could have achieved my desired charge rates based upon the live monitoring using their included current monitor even if I still had my 100amp service. So if you are debating footing the bill for a panel upgrade or spending a little extra to get the fancier Emporia charger, I have high confidence that would be a great way to achieve desired charging rates without comprising your wallet, or blowing your main breaker. ... show more

  • There is a lot to like with this charger
I really like this charger. I have the black finish, Emporia Pro with the J1772 plug. Mine arrived promptly and was well protected in its packaging. The panel is very nice in appearance and appears to be very well built. The instructions were very good. I had to mount mine outside so the NEMA 4 rating is great. I hired a licensed electrician to install mine. I had plenty of capacity in my breaker box and was able to provide a 60 amp circuit. The only hiccup was having to order the flexible sensors for the Vue 3 energy monitor as my panel had bus bars rather than cables. The electrician had to come back a second time to complete the installation of the Vue 3. So, check your panel before ordering. The key word for the app is 'easy'. Easy to install. Easy to link to the panel. Easy to configure Wi-Fi. Easy to configure things like your local power company so the app can estimate charging costs. Easy to keep up with charging sessions. The monthly reporting for cost and energy usage is also nice. I like how easy to handle the charging cable is. It is more flexible and also lighter than I expected it would be. The 25 foot length is great. The cable holder works well and also protects the J1772 connector well. The charger is working well with my Mustang Mach E. I drive 70 miles a day getting to work and back and a normal daily charge is handled quickly. I'm very pleased with this device. ... show more

  • Great L2-48A charger. Love the Energy Management feature
I decided to go with the Emporia Pro and the Vue module. Since my house uses less solar power than it generates, a lot of excess energy was just going back to the grid. That’s a raw deal ("no bueno"), given how little the utility pays for it. The main selling point is the Excess Solar Energy Management feature. It lets you program the charger to only use the surplus solar that would otherwise be wasted on the grid. That’s basically "free" power for your car! Charging your EV is a far smarter use of that extra juice than selling it for pennies. Plus, I love tracking my net energy usage. The functionality is top-notch. It has all the perks you need: Peak Demand, PowerSmart, and Intelligent Load Sharing (great if you add more chargers later). You tweak all the settings right in the app—which does make me wonder if it works without internet or if the cloud service drops. For the install, definitely call a licensed electrician. I needed to add a sub-panel with a 60A breaker to get enough juice for a 48A circuit. I can't speak to how long it lasts since it's brand new to me. But I can tell you it still works great after last night's massive downpour, so it's definitely built tough for outdoor weather! ... show more
