The East Oak 50,000 BTU patio heater is a beast, and a must have for those cooler evenings on the deck or patio! The unit came unassembled in a box, carefully packaged to prevent damage. The hardware was labeled very well and even included spare parts (that were labeled as spares too!). The instruction manual is very easy to follow with clear images and plain English directions. You will need a screwdriver to complete the assembly. A ratchet and metric socket set comes in handy if you don't want to tighten bolts with the included wrench. It wasn't extremely difficult to put together, it took me about 45 minutes from start to finish. I did it by myself, but you may want another set of hands when the heater gets too tall, and especially for putting together the heat dispersing shield/cone. Once together, you can add a propane tank and you're ready to go! The bottom part of the heater can be lifted up to connect the propane tank. There is a strap that is in place to hold the tank to the unit. It is easy to wheel the device to where you would like it to be, and without the tank or sand and water in the base, it isn't very heavy. Starting it is very simple. You push in the dial and rotate it 90 degrees while pushing the ignitor. It started on the first push for me. Within minutes, the heating element was glowing red and I was surprised at the amount of heat that this unit throws off. I turned it to the lowest setting and was comfortable underneath it. Turning it off is just as simple. There are holes in the base to access the propane tank to turn it on and off as well. This is a very nice patio heater, with an army green color it’s a nice break from the typical chrome patio heaters sold in most big box stores. Assembly was easy - I did it myself in about 40 minutes, and would’ve shaved 5 minutes off that but I got ahead of myself and didn’t follow the instructions so had to back up and redo a step. That said, the instructions are easy to follow, clearly written, and include quality pictures. The heater fired right up and got hot quick. I’ve had other patio heaters similar to this one, but the price of this one compares favorably to my last heater that this one replaces. This heater has a flat top on the base (to set my drink on!), and the hood (reflector panel) connects directly to the mesh head and there’s no gaps for birds to get into … I stored my old heater under a covered deck and not in a protective cover, and birds ended up nesting in it underneath the burners. Like all heaters of this type, time will tell whether it’s “better” than the others. So far, based on my experience with other similar heaters, this one has enough features that set it apart from similarly priced and (what I would consider) lower quality heaters, so I’d definitely recommend it over others in this price range. A final word concerning the packaging - the parts were packaged well and despite damage to the outer box in transit, none of the parts were damaged or marred in any way. Each piece was protected with various types of packing material, which signals to me that the manufacturer wants their product to arrive in pristine condition and hopefully that’s a sign that they put as much care into the quality of the materials. ... show more

Let's start with assembling. It's actually pretty straightforward and took me about 45 minutes but that was with the help of a 4 yr old so it's probably a 30 minute job. The instructions are super easy to follow and I had no issues at all with parts or things not lining up. I misjudged our covered patio ceiling height so we won't be able to use this in our main seating area but we have a large part of pool deck uncovered so this will be such a nice addition for those cold nights when we want to sit outside. Once assembled it fired right up and is HOT!!! So for sure mind your distance to walls and ceilings. The controls are easy to use and we had absolutely no issues with the functioning of it. I think my biggest complaint is how you have to put in the propane tank. The lower cylinder just lifts up and you slide it under. I would really rather there be a door. It's not a huge deal but I found it awkward putting the tank in. A door makes more sense. Otherwise really pleased. Aesthetically it looks nice. And we will keep it parked in the corner while not in use so that it stays out of the weather. Would certainly purchase again. Would probably pay more if there was a door for the propane tank! ... show more

Not a scratch or missing piece. Quality, well made product. Packaging is perfect, no dents. It's a beautiful outdoor heater. It's sturdy and fair to assemble. The knob for the gas is accessible. The door opens easy to get inside of the compartment. All if the pieces, including tools are well packed and organized. Don't hesitate to purchase this.
