I was initially a little hesitant to buy as I had read reviews here and elsewhere about its tendency to be temperamental, but when I got it I was delighted with its cleaning power compared to my previous vacuums. The V12 got dirt out of my rugs that must have been embedded in them for years, and filled up its cannister several times over. And its lightness makes it fantastically nimble and easy to use. All was well until about the fourth or fifth time I used it when it suddenly went into an error mode with an error message saying its airway was blocked, and it started pulsating on and off. I read the instructions about what to do when this happens and the advice was to clean the hepa-filter, the enclosure for which unscrews from the top of the vacuum. So I did that, and the error message still persisted. Read more advice online that recommended thoroughly shaking and cleaning the inside cavity of the vacuum body once the filter is removed, so I did that (plenty more dirt fell out), but still the error persisted. Finally read some online forums, which as well as confirming that this was a common issue with this vacuum, also recommended using a high pressure air compressor to clean the inside body of the vacuum with the filter removed. So I did that and still more dirt came out, but it still didn't fix it. Finally cleaned it using even higher air pressure for several minutes and that finally did the trick and the error cleared, and the vacuum started working again. Phew! But there's no way the V12 should be that difficult to clean, this looks like a basic design flaw that shouldn't be in a vacuum this expensive, and a brief scan of online complaints confirms that I was not the only one by far to have this difficulty clearing the "airways blocked" error. Bottom line is, it's a great vacuum when working so I still give it 5 stars for how good a job it does, but make sure you have a high pressure air compressor to clean it out when needed! And I hope Dyson will get the message and do something about this problem.

I’ve purchased & returned 2 other vacuums this year because they did not do a good enough job. I have a 1 yr old, so it’s imperative that my floors are spotless (anything she finds in her many travels across the floor goes straight into her mouth). I just used this vacuum for the first time & it is astounding what is in the canister after only a few passes across the living room! I’m simultaneously thrilled and disgusted. I have yet to try the hard wood attachment or any of the other attachments, but I’m so impressed by what this unit picked up from gliding it over the rug without having to go back and forth multiple times. I wasted time having semi clean floors due to the inferior products I ordered prior to this one. Worth every penny. It is also light weight and very easy to maneuver. I read reviews that said it’s loud but I really don’t find it to be louder than others. I can’t speak to the battery as I usually only get to clean in short bursts. I cannot wait to use the hand held attachment in my car! I wrote the review above after I’d just gotten this item. Now I’ve had it a few weeks and I stand by the fact that it’s a fantastic machine. I was vacuuming this morning and it shut off, battery was charged, canister was empty, but it flashed a message to empty the canister, which I’d recently done & it was nowhere near full. So, I took off the canister and there was a condensed ball of dust and hair (think laundry lint, the kind you pull off the dryer screen after washing a lot of heavy cotton sweatpants, only gross because it came from the floors and not off clean laundry). I pulled what I could out of the hole where the canister attaches, but could not get all of it. I had to take the long cylindrical stick piece off, and the carpeted floor attachment off at the bottom so all I had was the long hollow stick. Fortunately I have a thing that looks like a long silver spring with a handle on one end with a piece you push in with your palm to make the claw at the other end open and grab stuff. I used it to pull two more big globs of this crap out of the stick part of the vacuum. They did not appear to be so huge or dense they wouldn't be shuttled into the canister so this is a little disappointing & I hope I never have to do this again!

I have a pet peeve about people leaving product reviews that don't really relate to the product itself, so I'm going to immediately say off the bat that this is more a review of Dyson. I'm unable to leave the review anywhere else—and I feel that this is a case where the brand directly reflects the product. Long story short, the product does what it states. However, it failed within warranty, and the process of getting a replacement was ATROCIOUS. 3 months, 5 chat sessions, hours of my time, and countless headaches. And the first few months, their response was basically, "Please keep watching our site for part availability, and then YOU reach out to US once the necessary parts are in stock." Really?! For the price, this product is not worth it. It is only worth it if you're buying it for THE BRAND. (e.g. You're spending extra money for the trust, quality, and service you expect from the brand behind the product.) There are other manufacturers, like Shark, with nearly identical products in terms of form, function, and features—for a fraction of the cost. I buy (or used to buy) Dyson products for the expectation that it will be better QUALITY and that they'll stand behind their product. That was not the case with this vacuum, and — as a matter of principle — it will be the last time I purchase from Dyson. I was so put off by support experience, that I immediately sold the replacement I received, sold my other Dyson products, and have left their ecosystem. It's a shame... they are truly impressive products. But, I now see a 1.3-star review on TrustPilot for Dyson—based on over 3,500 reviews. That says a lot, so I can tell I'm not alone in my experience. If you love their products and trust that nothing will fail, you'll be great. Go ahead and purchase this. But cross your fingers nothing goes wrong. If it does... you're out of luck! (Interestingly, a friend purchased a different product and had a nearly identical experience, so that verifies it wasn't just a "random occurrence.")

Expensive but oh so worth it. As a friend said (I bought one for his partner), “It’s his second favorite toy.” I bought the V12 at The NY Times Wirecutter recommendation (over the V15). Takeaways: It’s so light, so maneuverable, and cleans beautifully. Oddly, the little green light really helps and shows how, just in a day, so much dust (and cat hair) and cooking oddities end up on the floor. I really like that it is so light and easy to use for a quick clean. I almost never vacuumed before, but now I use it almost every day. Since we request folks take off their shoes when entering the house, it’s nice having clean floors. I have found that its ease of use entices me to use it daily. Tips. First, but a charging stand as depicted below. It adds to the convenience and reduces clutter. Second, buy a second filter. The Dyson is amazing at telling you when to empty the bin, where a clog is and when you need to wash the end cap filter. However, once you wash the filter it must dry completely, Even if it’s a little damp, an error pops up. If wet, it can ruin the motor. So swap out an extra end cap filter when you have washed the first one.

It SUCKS. In both a good way and a bad way. It needs silicone lubricant (not included) to attach wand (and other attachments) to motor. I almost returned this and saw many reviews online of others complaining that it was VERY difficult to detach wand from motor which must happen whenever you empty the dust bin, which is OFTEN. That said, after applying silicone, I LOVE this vacuum. But that was a trial and error I hope you can avoid. If yours sticks, just use a little silicone lubricant where the wand connects to the motor on the grooves. I used a cotton swab. Good to go!

Love this vacuum. My mother-in-law has the larger V15, and it can get heavy after extended use. This one is lighter and easier to use. I also love that it has a power button rather than a trigger. On/Off is better than a trigger for larger areas. The collection canister is smaller, but just pay attention and empty it as needed. Also, the green laser beam vacuum head is the greatest vacuum invention ever. Vacuuming in the dark turns into some type of real-life video game. You won't miss a speck of dust.

I love this. If you have a small place, or clean in spurts, this is perfect. While the collection area fills up fast (I have animals), it is super easy to open, and because it's a Dyson, the suction is great! Bye bye black cat hair from my rugs! Easy and light weight, especially compared to my previous canister vacuum. You do need to keep it charged up, but now I can vacuum for 15 minutes more often, instead of 45 minutes every once in a while. It moves around furniture and corners pretty well and the attachments are great. Long hair doesn't get tangled, either! No more time sitting on the floor with scissors! Best purchase in a while.
