    • Great suction and cleaning power but with a caveat, READ THIS before buying!

I was initially a little hesitant to buy as I had read reviews here and elsewhere about its tendency to be temperamental, but when I got it I was delighted with its cleaning power compared to my previous vacuums. The V12 got dirt out of my rugs that must have been embedded in them for years, and filled up its cannister several times over. And its lightness makes it fantastically nimble and easy to use. All was well until about the fourth or fifth time I used it when it suddenly went into an error mode with an error message saying its airway was blocked, and it started pulsating on and off. I read the instructions about what to do when this happens and the advice was to clean the hepa-filter, the enclosure for which unscrews from the top of the vacuum. So I did that, and the error message still persisted. Read more advice online that recommended thoroughly shaking and cleaning the inside cavity of the vacuum body once the filter is removed, so I did that (plenty more dirt fell out), but still the error persisted. Finally read some online forums, which as well as confirming that this was a common issue with this vacuum, also recommended using a high pressure air compressor to clean the inside body of the vacuum with the filter removed. So I did that and still more dirt came out, but it still didn't fix it. Finally cleaned it using even higher air pressure for several minutes and that finally did the trick and the error cleared, and the vacuum started working again. Phew! But there's no way the V12 should be that difficult to clean, this looks like a basic design flaw that shouldn't be in a vacuum this expensive, and a brief scan of online complaints confirms that I was not the only one by far to have this difficulty clearing the "airways blocked" error. Bottom line is, it's a great vacuum when working so I still give it 5 stars for how good a job it does, but make sure you have a high pressure air compressor to clean it out when needed! And I hope Dyson will get the message and do something about this problem. ... show more

I love this. If you have a small place, or clean in spurts, this is perfect. While the collection area fills up fast (I have animals), it is super easy to open, and because it's a Dyson, the suction is great! Bye bye black cat hair from my rugs! Easy and light weight, especially compared to my previous canister vacuum. You do need to keep it charged up, but now I can vacuum for 15 minutes more often, instead of 45 minutes every once in a while. It moves around furniture and corners pretty well and the attachments are great. Long hair doesn't get tangled, either! No more time sitting on the floor with scissors! I bought the refurbished version and I’m so glad I did. It came in pristine condition. The packaging was the first thing I noticed. Wasn’t like how it would come in the new packaging but I had no reason to complain. The product works just as beautifully as my brand new other Dyson vacuum. My favorite feature about this vacuum apart from how light and easy it was to manuever the vacuum itself, was the green light which shows you dirt better than a “woman’s eyes” (we all know women can spot dirt even if no one else can - if you know you know). The battery was also long lasting - I was able to vacuum my entire downstairs hardwood floor (about 2000 sq ft of area) Extremely pleased that I was able to give this product a “second life”. ... show more

This worked great until the main wand part broke about a year after we bought it (well within the 2 year warranty). Dyson support said they'd send a new one within 5-7 business days. Then a month went by with no replacement, and then they cancelled the order for the replacement part because it's out of stock. It's been out of stock for the last few months now, so they won't send a part. They're offering to have me ship back my whole vacuum and have it replaced in 18 business days. But after the dishonest experience with the replacement part, and seeing many people on various forums complain that they shipped their equipment back and never received the new units, I am concerned that I won't actually get a replacement from them, and will end up with no unit rather than a partially broken one.
