  • V11 Animal is AWESOME
Style: Animal
I had a cordless Dyson for about 10 years before it developed any sort of problem but since it was so old, I decided to not have it repaired (I live in a town which doesn't have any sort of Dyson repair place) because it would mean traveling too far to get it fixed and would require a couple of trips. Instead, I opted to replace it with a cordless vacuum which was not a Dyson and was cheaper. The new one lasted about a year.....won't do that again. I can spend almost $150 a year and buy a cheaper cordless vac or I can buy the best and have it last a whole lot longer. I opted for the latter and I am delirious with my decision. I'm telling you, the Dyson V11 Animal has far exceeded my expectations. It has super suction and I love the way you can select auto adjustment from hard floors to carpet or you can leave it on what you want if you don't want to do that. It is so easy to use yet is powerful beyond belief. Yeah, it was a little pricey but not if you want THE BEST. I have 2 Dyson canister vacuums (one for each end of the house) but I find myself grabbing the V11 Animal more frequently. It even sounds powerful yet it is not very noisy. I LOVE IT!!!! It cleans like crazy. It is definitely worth the price. I'll stick to Dyson from now on....no more less expensive cordless vacuums for me....HOORAY DYSON!!!!!! ... show more

  • So convenient and functional
Style: Animal
I bought this product 10 months ago, after reading all the reviews and thinking long and hard given the price. Every time I have used it since the day it arrived, I literally say to myself (or out loud to my family), "I love this vacuum so much!" The fact that it's cordless, the swiveling head and ability to get in corners & under furniture, the fantastic (almost unbelievable) suction -- all are such great features. It's so convenient that I find myself using it much more often than I have any prior vacuum. And I have no trouble whatsoever emptying the canister. I only have two (small) issues. First, you need to train everyone in your house who uses it to keep it charging at all times -- it's beyond frustrating to go to use it and find that the last person didn't plug it back in. . . and then you have to wait for it to recharge. Second, something weird happened very early on (like within a couple of weeks of getting it) where mine was showing "replace filter" light -- I called Dyson Customer Service, they couldn't figure it out, and sent me a new filter. I replaced the filter but the light has never gone out -- however, this hasn't affected the functionality of the machine at all (at least to date). ... show more

  • Wow. Just, wow.
Style: Animal
Headline says it all. I’ve always loved Dyson, but this one is top of the line and I’m blown away. I also own a corded animal Dyson ball, and I thought it was powerful until I used this vacuum. This thing packs a major punch, and as a clean freak I couldn’t ask for a better machine. So far I’ve only used it on Auto mode, which does just fine. I can’t imagine needing to use the boost option for any kind of mess. This vacuum sucked up kitty litter, dust, and pet hair like no ones business, and on the first swipe to boot. I didn’t have to retrace my steps and keep going over the same spot over and over again like I normally would. I keep a clean house to begin with (deep vacuum every couple of days, and I have a robot vac that runs daily) but this thing makes me want to vacuum everything I possibly can, as much as I can. It is quiet, sophisticated, and easy to maneuver from hardwoods to carpet and rugs. Auto mode quickly traces the change in surface and adjusts suction accordingly. It comes with four additional attachments, which will be incredibly useful for any cleaning job. The larger dust bin is a great upgrade from previous models, and trust me, you’ll need it. You’ll never believe the stuff this stick vac picks up. It’s pricey, yes. But I’m 100% convinced it’s well worth the hole in your wallet. If you’re on the fence, stop sitting there and get this vacuum. It exceeds all expectations, and I’m so excited to continue to clean with it. ... show more

  • Excellent vacuum, ignore negative reviews.
Style: Animal
I don't write reviews very often but felt I needed to based on negative reviews I read. I was hesitant to drop $600 on a vacuum because of the reviews, but most of the negative reviews have no merit, IMO. First of all, the vacuum is not that heavy...at 6.5lbs, it's two pounds lighter than a gallon of milk. If you can't carry a gallon of milk around then you're in pretty terrible shape. Not only that, but when you're actually vacuuming, some of the weight is alleviated by letting gravity do its work. Second, having to hold the trigger down is not bad at all. You don't have to squeeze the d*mn thing as hard as you can to get it to run. You barely have to touch it to trigger the vacuums power. You can have a very relaxed hand while using this vacuum and not run into any issues. The different modes seem to work fine. It's pretty incredible how much stuff it picks up when it's on "turbo" mode. It's true the battery doesn't last long when using it, but it has pretty good suction on "auto" so you really shouldn't need to use "turbo" too often unless you want to do a deep cleaning. I can't comment on the issue of the vacuum not working after a couple of months. We've had it for two months and it still works, so only time will tell if that issue comes up. ... show more

  • Two vacuums in one
Style: Animal
Absolutely loving it.This is my third Dyson vacuum, two uprights and this cordless. You are getting an upright, which is lighter, cordfree, easier to manuever, quieter, has more suction, and can get to places the uprights couldnt. You are also getting a handheld you can use in the car, unencumbered by a cord, which is also terrific for quick cleanups and dusting around the house.Throw in the handy docking station which keeps the vacuum constantly charged, while also keeping it stowed, and you have the perfect cleaning tool. This is an actuaI 2 in 1 vacuum, unlike the upright canister vacuum which is a chore to use when using attachments because of the unwieldy hose.I am interested in the technology that goes into such a tool,as well as its ability to clean my house, and this is as good as it gets.Would I have ever thought I would ever spend this much on a vacuum,no,but I am glad I did and it is well worth the money. And the fact that Amazon allowed me to purchase this vacuum over 5 months interest free, makes this purchase a no brainer and just shows how Amazon stays ahead of its competition with incentives such as this.Highly recommended. As a footnote, when purchasing this vacuum, the serial number is visible on the outside of the box. Before you break the seal and it becomes a used vacuum, register the vacuum before ever opening the box and breaking the seal.Once Dyson confirms your warranty, which was almost instantaneous, then go ahead and unbox, that way if there is a warranty problem, the vacuum remains a brand new, unopened item which can be easily returned. ... show more

  • Very lightweight and versatile. Great for disabled or handicapped users.
Style: Animal
I am writing this review from the perspective of someone who is in a wheelchair. I am paralyzed: I have no abdominal support, and my hands are weak—like 50% strength (C7 complete). I'll also mention that my house is carpeted, so that is its primary use. I'll leave performance reviews for others who have done much more testing than me (there's some great resources out there... a surprising number really). Upsides: First, let me say this: if you're in a wheelchair, corded vacuums are out of the question. They're heavy, they're unwieldy, and the cord gets in the way all of the time. Thus, you need a battery-powered vacuum, in which case you're probably getting a lightweight stick vacuum. Stick vacuums are your best option if you're in a wheelchair. There's no cord to get in your way, and they're light enough to where you can just vacuum with one hand and maneuver yourself with the other. Maintenance is not an issue: it's easy to empty the waste receptacle, and it's easy to clean the filter. When it comes to using the extension stick or leaving it off, I actually find it's easier to attach the power head directly to the vacuum and just lean over/forward to vacuum. This is an option that the Dyson V11 gives you, which other non-adjustable vacuums do not. If you're low to the ground (perhaps because you're short or because you're in a wheelchair) then you might not want all that extra length of the "stick" attachment, since it forces the head to protrude too far forward, which hurts leverage and becomes unwieldy. In contrast, if you live with a normal-bodied person who also uses the vacuum, then they probably want the stick on, so it's good to have the option to leave the stick on/off when using the power head, which this vacuum offers. Downsides: To keep the weight down, the waste receptacle is quite small. This means you'll have to empty it frequently. This is a problem inherent with just about all stick vacuums, so it's something you'll just have to accept. At least you don't have to purchase bags. The dust filter seems to get dirty very quickly (I have a dusty old house with two pets, so your mileage may vary). This is a good thing and a bad thing. On the one hand, it's tedious to have to clean the filter so often (like after every full-home vacuuming). On the other hand, it's quite effective at filtering dust, which is a good thing (less dust is expelled into the air). It's easy to remove and clean the filter, so no issues there. To use the vacuum, you must hold the button at all times. This is intended to conserve battery power, but it makes using the vacuum more difficult, especially when you have limited hand function like me. Luckily, however, you can buy a "button lock" from a 3rd party manufacturer for Dyson vacuums. However, it'd be nice if they just had a click on/off method instead. -- In sum, I'd say a stick vacuum is the best option for someone who is disabled and/or in a wheelchair. This Dyson was very expensive, but I have no buyer's remorse. It's very good just on its own merits, and it's great for me. ... show more

  • Good Vacuum but Plan on Having to Replace a Few Plastic Parts
Style: Animal
I live in a small apartment with wood floors so a traditional vacuum is a little overkill. The Dyson v11 Animal fits the bill. It does a great job on cat fur. It’s numerous attachments make it very versatile and I especially like the different power settings. You can drain the battery pretty quickly while using the Boost setting. I recommend running it on Eco or Auto unless you need the extra suction for a particular job. I’ve had my v11 for just under 3 years and my only complaint is a few of the plastic parts are not built strong enough. I’ve had to replace the trigger twice and the main body that holds the trigger once. The latter was because the plastic posts where the screws inside attach break relatively easily. It’s not like they are exposed making them vulnerable to dings while cleaning, but all it takes is dropping it or having it tip over a few times and you’ll have broken screw posts. The only time it’s a problem comes when you have to replace the trigger. The good news is the v11 is easy to fix without having to pay Dyson to do it. I recommend buying a metal after market trigger, put it in as soon as the original plastic trigger breaks and then never open the housing again. There are videos all over the Internet that can walk you through the process and the tools you need to do it (like a long, thin, size 8 star screwdriver). So, all-in-all it’s a good vacuum with a few minor design flaws. UPDATE: Dyson has changed the way it manufactures the main body. They now cover the internal circuit board with silicone sealant. This means in order to install a metal trigger, you have to carefully scrape off the sealant with a razor or x-acto knife to get at terminal connections. Those connections must be disconnected in order to replace the trigger. I’m not sure why Dyson did this. A cynic would say it was to make it harder to self-repair or repair out of warranty, but I hope that was not their motivation. ... show more

  • Best vac ever
Style: Animal
I had a D44 animal that I replaced, thinking it was dying but it had a rubber band lodged in it so it still works great (I discovered this when I went to put the parts on ebay, just decided to clean it out and fixed it 100%), this one is even better. The D44 is lighter and easier to use, the D11 (the new one) is about 25% better suction and way easier on larger areas. Both worked amazing and the engineering is genius, the original was very good but the new one you can tell they made dozens of minor improvements in the interim 10 years. I will never by any other brand. Pick the D44 or similar if you are doing small work, pick this one if you have something closer to tile or wood that needs a full size plug in, this will work just fine. We have 1500 SF of tile and this can handle it, plus 4 bathrooms all tile. The D44 would be better for a smaller area, but could do this much if needed. ... show more
