  • For those with problems keeping it in....
Pro tip! (from my teacher), you need to blow hot air into the bell first. So do some slow long 'HAAAAA's into the bell, steam it up and then press and turn the mute in. It will not fall out afterwards. And what a great sound! More importantly, what a great workout! When I first got it, I put it in (without the wow-wow center piece), and gave it an anemic little blow and .... it didn't make much sound. I thought it was broken. No Miles Davis rattle! Then I thought about it, took a proper deep breath and really punched it. Awesome! I sounds like Miles .... okay, well, not much but you get that rattle cool sound. ... show more

  • There are better Harmon mutes out there.
I know that this is a 2 star review out of a crap load of 5’s and 4’s and I looked at these reviews before I bought the mute and just thought that there are obviously gonna be imperfections in the company where a couple bad mutes slip out but I’m just going to say is that I thought this would be one, nice, quality, resonant mute. I bought it and got it the next day (good job with shipping and coming in nice shape without dents or damaged box). As soon as I tried it out, the first sound I heard wasn’t buzzy or resonant at all. I’ve played on Jo-ral bubble mutes and.....man the jo-ral’s make this look like doo doo. First of all, the plating seemed cheap but I didn’t think much of it until I started getting stains on my hand from the plating on the rim of the stem. Second, (like I said before) the sound isn’t as buzzy or resonant as other Harmon’s I’ve played on, with and without the stem. I bought this and thought this would be another great mute but I was very disappointed because this the Harmon brand. Finally, the logo felt and looked like a cheap sticker. As if, it was a cheap mute made in China for $5 and then slapped on with that sticker. To sum it up, I just don’t think it’s worth my purchase and/or my time. I would 100% recommend the Jo-Ral bubble mutes, they are about double the price of this mute, but it’s totally worth it. ... show more

  • Mutey mute mute
So, I don't know if YOUR 11 year old is learning to play the trumpet.... But mine is! This might be the single greatest invention since child leashes in amusement parks. Covid has us all trapped in the same place and now because of the mute, we may, someday, regain our hearing. If you are looking for a way to make your kid practice and NOT want to strangle him/her for it, this is an excellent start. (the back porch is good too) ... show more

  • Harmon mute gives Miles Davis Sound
I bought two of these standard Harmon Mutes for my grand kids that are trumpet players. My grandson can use it in the jazz band he is in and my grand daughter might need it in symphonic band now and then. They both enjoyed receiving them as Christmas Presents. I know that if they continue their trumpet playing they will need them. ... show more

  • ... for over 40 years and it is still a great product. The first one
I had three of these for over 40 years and it is still a great product. The first one, belonged to my performing arts elementary; the second one, I bought in High School when I was being paid to play, and this one looks just like my old one with a newer cork. I expect them to last long after I am gone. ... show more

  • Garbage --Will not stay in bell for even 10 seconds
If you look at the 1-2 star reviews, it is apparently a problem with this mute that it won't stay in certain horns--it is utter BS design--I have other mutes that stick just fine. This one is not designed to extend far enough into the bell to grip hard enough to stay. I am returning this POS, and I am irritated I wasted my time and the money to send it back ... show more

  • Son loves it, so do we!
If I had known he'd want to play so much with a mute I'd have bought it sooner! I like how he can play in the same room and you can still carry on a conversation without having to raise your voice. Great for jazz music.

  • Would be great if it did not fall out of the bell of the horn.
I have used these mutes before and it was time to get a new one. The cork must have something wrong as it seems too thin and therefore - will not attach properly or the shank length is wrong (short). It falls out if I do not hold on. Sounds good while holding on to the mute. I do not remember the last time I rated a product low; but Amazon wanted a review so here it is for whatever value it serves. ... show more
